Dear tahmed sahib:
Very well said. Bahut hee putay ki baat kahi apne:
``What we the ``educated muslims`` can do is to kick the mullah out of Islam and kick politics out of Islam and kick tradition out of Islam.
And we are left with is the Quran. And in the Quran there are some good tips on how to live one`s life.
And these are incredibly similar to the values emphasized in the US (honesty, respect for differences, scientific inquiry, and so on).
So, all we are really obliged as ``educated muslims`` is to be good citizens of whatever society we live in. That is all.``
True indeed.
So this is what I do. I have to admit that I still commit the sin of reading Quran in this “Deyare Muztarib” meiN -- ie in this “Land of Anxieties”, USA -- whenever I need to do some -- ”dil ke ghabrane ki baat” -- as this couplet of mine would say :
iss ``deyare muztarib`` meiN sub hee ghubraye hooway/
hum kareiN ub kis se apne dil ke ghaubrane kee baat
Between the science of medicine, a glass of wine and pontificating on Chowk -- I still read Quran. once a while -- without understanding it. To tell you honestly, I am so glad Quran is in Arabic -- thus I don’t have to understand it --because as an “educated Muslim” I don’t need to understand something that -- I already know (``honesty, respect for differences, scientific inquiry, and so on``).
I simply recite it for spiritual comfort – and spirituality does not demand UNDERSTANDING -- it asks for PURE FEELING – and I usually feel better.
Kubhi kabhaar nemaz bhi phur letaa hooN -- mugar sijda nahiN kartaa – because to me that feels pretty primitive and very oddly positioned, besides being demeaning – evaporates all my “feeling” of spirituality.
So I guess this is what Mirza Ghalib probably had in mind when he described himself as -- AADHA MUSSULMAN.
Regards.

Sadna:
I don`t think it was Advani who said it. I am certain that the remark was to do with the treatment of the Press during the Emergency. It was a Congress functionary who said it.
All Indians Baying for the Defeat of the BJP:
I would be the first to deplore what happened in Agra. BUT, from a national perspective the BJP is still any day better than a retarded Eye-talian, and the Yadav brigade. They are capable of and will do more to destroy India, than any external enemy.
Have you all forgotten the days of Buta Singh as Home Minister. The riots of 1984? Mulayam Singh Yadav as defence minister, actively interfering in the army to promote Yadavs to general staff? Moron Foreign Minister IK Gujral being the first to visit Iraqi occupied Kuwait as a state guest of Saddam Hussain?
These are the lafangas you want should rule our country. Are you comparing their crimes to pissing on the Taj, horrendous as it may be. BTW, it was not Vajpayee and Advani going on a rampage, it was the youth wing. Would you like stories of NSUI (Congress backed) or SFI (Communist backed) student/youth wings?
Nobody is looking at the real problem. Why are political parties allowed to have youth/student wings? Does any youth/student wing or any political party have a good track record? NO.

In 1999, the Supreme Court ruled and the Election Commission upheld the stripping of Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray of his voting rights for a period of time for inciting Hindu-Muslim violence in an election speech.
I do not know what happened later (e.g., if the President reinstated Thackeray), but much, much more of this kind of action is needed.

DRUMZ:
``KKK: Theses boys are still around. Please dont divorce them from the RACIST system that is AMERIKKKA. CIA/FBI agents have ALWAYS been down with the Klan. Just recently evidence was shown by chomsky et all at the racism conference.``
Man where do you get all this propaganda from? Next thing you`ll say is that all the white boys who died in Vietnam were blacks with white paint on them.
You sound more Soviet than the Soviets themselves ever sounded. Are you Canadian?

viyas_vaipul: You start off reasonably OK. But you end by presenting an irrational view of the world (muslims are better than anyone etc. etc.), and attributing it to muslims, or even only to muslim extremists. In ridiculing muslims, you are simply betraying your own ``jahalat``.
If you were truly liberated from the primitive thinking that so many ``educated indians and pakistanis`` display on chowk, you would be more concerned with using chowk to promote understanding and mutual respect between hindus and muslims rather than merely ridiculing muslims.
So: stop worrying about muslim fundamentalists - you have bigger problems yourself.

re :nasah 515
i think that nasah`s reply hit the nail on the head. incitement to violence on the behalf of afghanistan- a country that has always been hostile to pakistan must be eradicated. These mullahs must be jailed pre-emptivley , even if the demonstrations are peaceful ...they still affect the economy by calling for strikes, shut-downs and the like we will get no where fast.....i hope Musharaf does accept the US offer to write off pakistan`s debt ....i think its a portion of it as reported on islamonline.net on 10/19 in exhange for access to bases, airports, and military personnel ...........the economy is the most important thing in pakistan religion comes dead last........ we must show the indians that we too are reasonable , progressive , and ready to milk the situation for whats it worth..... an essential practice will be to produce a strongly secular army and ISI .....we must adopt turkish-like rigidness when it comes to political-religuous expression in our defense estanlishments...the army and ISI must be transformed into the vehicles of secular-progressive pakistani nationalism not islamic obscurantism

. . . yo dude . . .yuv means youth. Politically ``yuv`` is prefixed or suffixed or midfixed . . . and has no age limits.
Why??
And why only to Hindus? Other religions would also use ``yuv`` . . . YMCA for example. Then so would Sikhs, Muslims, animists, Jehovah`s Witnesses (especially) . . . vegetarians, frutarians etcetc
