Fuzair #403 The nature of warfare is rapidly changing - it is more and more like a police action. Any society that is sophisticated enough to fight with a modern army is sophisticated enough to know the stupidity of provoking a fight in the first place. Let us hope when all this is over, Pakistan and India will realize this and we wont have the jingoism of the past 50 years repeated. Amen.
As for what the British or Germans or US military people think of each other - what you say is quite superficial (by your standards). Really!!

Changing American battle strategy.
Finally the correct strategy on the part of the Americans – hitting the front line Talibans not the population centers – helping the opposition capture northern cities -- instead of sending the commandos at the dead of night in unfamiliar surroundings -- is being implemented -- der ayad drust ayed.
For the morale of the opposition forces -- and to show something for this very expensive American war effort -- it is imperative that some of the outlying northern cities fall soon to the allied forces.
The following two items are encouraging news in this regard.
(I)
“JABAL SARAJ, Afghanistan, Nov. 2 – The attacks started well before dawn, signaled by the roar of jet engines in the night sky.
By mid afternoon, when they tapered off, forces of Afghanistan`s ruling Taliban had received their heaviest pounding of the nearly four-week-old U.S. bombing campaign on the front lines north of Kabul.
With targeting assistance from U.S. military personnel on the ground, waves of B-52 bombers unloaded today on Taliban positions on the Shomali plain and in the hills overlooking Bagram air base.
They blasted a Taliban field headquarters, posts held by newly arrived volunteers from Pakistan and more than a dozen Taliban tanks and assorted heavy machine guns and antiaircraft weapons.
The opposition Northern Alliance also reported intensified U.S. bombing of Taliban positions around the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif, where a rebel offensive has been stymied lately by Taliban counterattacks.
The explosions from the bombs dumped on the Taliban north of Kabul shook mud houses and rattled windows in villages held by the Northern Alliance, miles from the front.
Bright orange flashes emanated from some of the buildings hit on the Taliban side of the line, and huge plumes of smoke and dirt rose in the clear morning sky.
Alliance commanders called the bombing the most effective to date on the front north of Kabul. They expressed confidence that the intensified airstrikes, which alliance leaders have requested, would clear the way for an offensive that they have hinted could be only days away.
Apparently encouraged by the escalated air war, alliance forces have been moving additional troops and artillery to the front in anticipation of a march on Kabul, about 30 miles to the south.
The number of Taliban casualties from the bombing remains unknown, however, as does the militia`s ability to fend off a concerted assault involving U.S. close air support.
The radical Islamic movement is estimated to have 6,000 to 9,000 men on the front lines north of Kabul, including a core of ideologically committed volunteers from Pakistan and Arab countries.(wp)”
(II)
“U.S. warplanes were sent to the aid of an Afghan opposition leader who came under attack by the Taliban on Thursday in southern Afghanistan, a senior U.S. government official said yesterday.
Navy fighter-bombers fired on Taliban forces that were attempting to capture Hamid Karzai, a prominent Afghan tribal leader from the dominant Pashtun ethnic group. Karzai, 43, who has lived in exile in Pakistan since the mid-1990s, has been working inside Afghanistan since Oct. 8 to persuade Pashtun leaders to turn against the Taliban, according to his relatives.
Karzai and a group of armed supporters were attacked by Taliban troops as they left a meeting with tribal elders in the south-central province of Uruzgan. U.S. warplanes based on aircraft carriers were immediately sent to help, the U.S. official said.
``There was a battle going on, and U.S. aircraft came in from the sea to provide support,`` the official said.
Karzai`s brother, Ahmed Karzai, who said he had spoken with Hamid Karzai by satellite telephone yesterday, said: ``They managed to fight off the Taliban and they have escaped.``(WP)

AnNy: Sorry for belated response regarding hair-splitting post. I will have to disagree with your opinion about razor use. It is a myth that somehow shaving increases the number of hair or make them thicker. A bald head would shave three times a day if it increases hair count. The hair only come out of follicles whose numbers and activity is determined by enzymes and hormones which in turn are controlled by genes. At early stages of life, genes contolling hair growth trigger new follicles growth and, with age (biological clock called telomers ticking), start deactivating follicles.
So number of hair at any moment of age and their strength is assigned by each individual`s genes through a genetic program unless you believe in the possibilty of additional hair quota assigned to every individual on Lailat-Ul-Qadr alongwith rest of necessities of life to each individual. One can lose hair due to some disease or waxing might be able to destroy some follicles but it does not stop regrowth of follicle, if in age group when number of follicles are suppose to rise.
Think of Australian sheep, whose hair are removed every year as wool. Does it mean that in the following years, each sheep will yield more wool and of poor quality? What is called virgin wool has more to do with the age of sheep rather than the first removal of hair.
AnNy, there is always a possibility of learning something from discussing any topic. The potential of benefits of free society, freedom to chose and freedom of expression are lot more than a controlled society with mullahs and mullah mentality perpetually whinning about everything that does not fit their scaffolding. Exclude hindus, exclude sikhs, exclude ahmedis, exclude Ali1, exclude hamidm and so on. Do you ungerstand the implications of exclusionary philosophies? Should I ask chowk staff to kick out somebody whose point of view I do not like, especially if all I post is whinning? No way. If I do not like the person with multiple usernames or hamzad/ farangi kush, I do not have to read and respond but no right to ask for exclusion of anybody because chowk is not my grandfather`s property. It is a public forum and like democracy, it has the strength to marginalize useless and harmful material.
chalo chorho in baatoN ko.

Your Taek WanDo is being felt even through your inter-acts.Some of the low-lifes here are not worth even that attention.
It is really great to see Pakistani Muslim women here show the grace & class. Also,it is distinguishable by their boldness & bravery as opposed to book/newspaper/magazine intellectual-worms.
The pride you emanate in your language, culture & religion is so uplifting & reassuring.I sincerely hope that all those Pakistani men who behaved in an uncultured & unchivalrous manner will come forward forthwith & remove this smudge from our glorious traditions.

Dear Zahra (#381, #391):
I am so glad that you have taken the initiative and are showing the leadership that has always reflected as quality and class in your write-ups I have read. Please persist on this initiative, so that more have time to come out of the closet and clean the Chowk. It can be done.
It unnecessary for an interaction on a good essay to turn into mud slinging, and being reduced to to Us-v-Them and its other nasty variations.
I believe at this Chowk there is enough knowledge to learn more from each other. For example, on religion many people including nashqbandi, have indepth knowledge about Islam to share. I am certainly intrigued by it and have many questions to ask and would like to know more. Similarly there is knowledge about Hinduism, Sikhism for people to share, so that people can see its values beyond symbols of fertility etc. etc.. Also enough knowledge exists among the visitors to Chowk about social, economic and military science, and even about Gandhi and Jinnah to share. Sadly the good sides rarely come out, and soon threads become very discouraging and too scary for many to openly express their viewpoints.
You rightly said it is machoism that takes over, and I think it is responsible in supressing the freedom of good speech. Something should be done about this problem, which you have rightly identified. Please do not give up, keep your crusade to clean the Chowk going, so that a good clean Chowk re-emerges.
Good luck

Zahra, Chowkies
I am sorry that you have had such an outrageous and unpleasant incident with ``Bapu`` (aka 12 Head Sahib). I agree with you in that he should be restricted to one nick and be barred from interacting on Chowk as punishment (either for a specific time period or permanently). Unfortunately 12 Head Sahib has proceeded in this manner for monthes. He has bothered several Chowkies. I believe something should be done about this interactor.
I suggest that all Chowk interactors refrain from interacting with Bapu/Aamir/Faiza/Studebaker/Deepika/Bhardwaj/Brad Cruise/Bijli/etc., until this matter is resolved.
I also would like to remind everyone that Chowk is an open forum and it is important that we maintain our self respect and respect for all the members of this cyber community.
regards,
S.

{As Chowk has a VERY little MALE % with a backbone and any brains, therefore it`s becoming essential to kick such elements in their weak shins. Duffers are not capable of producing anything else, except for chanting about their insecure little male-hood[that`s the only thing they can hold on to. Isn`t enough though!].}
It is a matter of record that Pakistani males have already lost their male-hood as part of the circumcision ceremony.
Hee, hee, hee.

Re: Romair
Since WWII, the US Army doctrine has been to make massive use of its available firepower (which no other Army, either now or in WWII, could rival) to soften up the enemy and ensure minimal US casualties. US soldiers, even 30 years after the end of the US involvement in Vietnam, are certainly not as well trained as German or British ones in general but are certainly no worse than the NATO average. My uncle served an attachment with a German Army battalion and did their Company Commander`s Course and Para Course, just before the Gulf War, and was full of nothing but praise for the Bundeswehr. In this connection, he also took part with his German unit on some NATO exercises. According to him, the Germans were clearly the best NATO soldiers, followed by the British (who are also the most arrogant NATO members) and Canadians, with the US a very distant fourth. Most of the smaller NATO countries weren`t really all that much better than his own battalion would be in the maneuvers and when he remarked on this, his German CO laughed and said that they were kept around to direct traffic and police the rear areas and no one really expected them to ever stand up to a full-fledged Warsaw Pact assault. However, his CO did say that the quality of the US Army in Germany had improved considerably since the 1970s when the US Army consistently placed dead last in every NATO competition. From what he personally observed and was confirmed by the Germans, the Americans were usually reluctant to advance without overwhelming artillery and air support and usually relied on this--rather than better tactics or maneuvering--to defeat the ``enemy.``
US troops certainly do have a well-deserved reputation for liking their creature comforts, thats why some Germans called them ``Ice Cream Soldiers`` in WWII, but their Special Forces are certainly not ``sissies,`` a term better used to describe the average European army rather than the American. This appelation comes from the political decision to always minimize US casualties and its this reluctance to accept US casualties that makes other militaries tend to sneer at the Americans.

Macho Sac:
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was identifying the trashy males on Chowk. There is a good number of male trash on Chowk who is an insult to the very existance of human beings. I said ``good number`` and I didn`t say ``all.`` OK! Do not dare to come back with another $hitty plea that you have poor eyesight. If all of you are physically so unfit why do not you get yourself treated top down. I indeed lumped you in that gutter-level category and I stand by my assertion. Beyond that, you and your ilks are not worth a minute. I suggest any male who has the urge to talk about his sick fantasies[you have been doing that quite often...] should share them with their poor unfortuante and helpless family women. None of the females on Chowk write or interact to read trashy men`s trashy fantasies. Ali1 better make a note as well before he is dealt with properly.
No respect and No regard! I have never considered you and your ilks worth a respect anyway. Now, that you are married, at least you have something to occupy your macho-frustrations with. Congrats!
Dost-Mittar:
Thank you for your offer. I would have to turn it down. I`d rather let someone else do that favor as none of these ba$tards[identified as well as unidentified]are worth even looking at as well as being given the privelege[of getting jootian]. They are just here to chant about their brain which is located in the lower part of their bodies and that`s why they are so damn screwed up!

``I need to point out that I never used the term ``Indian nationalist`` - I
said ``Hindu Nationalist`` - In your opinion is that the same thing?``
Yes indeed it was an oversight on my part. I`m confused tho as to who these ``Hindu Nationalists`` are who have influence over the zionist media. Here i was picturing the paid lobbyists of the indian government telling the zionist media where they could dig up dirt (imaginary of course) on the ISI. You seem to have something else in mind entirely.
How come it is so easy for you to believe that these ``Hindu Nationalists`` & zionists can influence american media that are essentially business houses. You must think that these hindus and zionists are enormously rich & powerful. Halloween just got over. Exorcise those ghosts..
The irony is that despite what everyone else is saying (Robert Fisk is sympathetic to the afghans, has done long stints in afghanistan & pakistan, and has choice things to say about the ISI) you who conjures up conspiracy theories so readily, still maintain that the ISI is an innocent entity. Yeah, right!
FYI, i don`t have TV and i get my news from the radio & the internet.
You seem to have something else in mind entirely.

re Zahra #391:
Thanks for lumping me with the likes of hamidm. That`s an honour indeed. However, I do agree with you regarding your sense of outrage at what was let through by the Chowk censors. Its interesting how you`ve lumped all men in the same category without trying to isolate the guilty party. Something we Muslims accuse the west of rather frequently don`t you think?
