You will agree that the best safe place to keep the weapons are in the US with a `dial a bomb` arrangement for use against india. Despite all the high hopes of the field marshals on chowk, mushy will preside over the unavoidable ruination of pakistan. Pakistan should have remained neutral, with india hosting the americans, indian muslims would have reviled and created chaos for india. SMA messages from Mushy are loud and clear.
US ready to help protect Pak nukes
Powell says Musharraf understands importance
of keeping nuclear arsenal safe
WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Colin Powell Wednesday said the US was willing to improve security of nuclear installations in Pakistan if President Gen Musharraf felt the need to do so.
Powell said Musharraf understood the importance of keeping his country`s nuclear arsenal safe. ``I am confident that he understands the importance of ensuring that all elements of his nuclear program are safe and secure,`` Powell told reporters, noting that he had discussed the matter with Musharraf in Islamabad earlier this month.

Pakistani freedom fighters
Is there any one/thing like freedom fighters in pakistan. Is there any scheme to recognise them, and to honour their contributions. Other than jinnah we havent heard of any. Response from any one knowledgeable about the pak situation will be appreciated.
HC backs pension for freedom fighters` widows
KOCHI: A division bench of the Kerala high court on Thursday upheld the decision of a single judge that widows of those who had participated in the Punappra Vayalar revolt were entitled for central government pension.
The bench comprising justice K S Radhakrishnan and justice K Balakrishnan Nair upheld the single judge`s decision while dismissing two writ appeals by the state government.
The petitioners had stated that they were entitled to the central government pension for freedom fighters as the Centre had declared that the revolt was part of the freedom struggle. They filed a representation before the union government which was rejected.

``what Pakistan needs now is for the sofa-warmers to get up``
Wow! I hope that happens. I am sure there is this silent majority but I have never seen it confront either the religicos or the military. This IS the most suitable time because the military won`t come in the way of this silent majority. It might even help.
So, come on, Pakistanis. Let us see a large and vocal rally in support of Musharraf.

I need to point out that I never used the term ``Indian nationalist`` - I said ``Hindu Nationalist`` - In your opinion is that the same thing?

What? After the NY Times and The Washington Times, the Washington Post, too? All of them succumbing to the Hindu-Zionist pressure?

Thanks for trying but it seems that you havent read the question I asked. Let me rephrase it for you.
``Did or did not Jews working at WTC take the day off on 9/11?``
Please try to answer the question by:
1. Without insulting me.
2. Yes there is one way to quote the actual number of (jewish) casualties (which you havent)and finding out the percentage but before you do that think rationally whether it answers my question or not?

Getting pretty lonely up there in Dearborn I see.
Playing the percentages game without context to figure out whether there was a conspiracy is an exercise not only in futility but stupidity. Jews are employed on Wall St. in great numbers because of several reasons:
1)They are settled in great numbers in the NYC and the surrounding suburbs.
2)Financial industry is the dominant industry in NYC.
3)Most Jews are highly educated and IMHO intellectually highly gifted. They`ve had a long tradition of being good at matters related to finance and commerce.
4)Almost all major firms on Wall St. have a strong Jewish tradition. In hiring practices, religion is mostly a non-factor these days but it is difficult to discount the importance of lineage in such high-paying jobs.
5)Jews on Wall St. are generally low-key about their religious affiliation. They do contribute heavily to organizations involved with Israel but most of it is extremely surreptitious.
6)The Jews don`t operate as a group and are not held in awe. Actually their practice of leaving work early on certain days before sunset is jokingly referred to as `Rosha-Homa`.
The reason so few jews died in WTC was due to the localized nature of the attacks. The loss of life was mostly in floors 104 and higher in the first tower. The worst hit was the firm Cantor Fitzgerald(floors 105 and above) which lost 700 of its 1000 employees. Cantor was not a firm heavily manned by Jews. Its well known for hiring experienced employees from other firms and a somewhat flat hierarchy with a fierce trading culture. Morgan Stanley the major occupant of the twin towers lost fewer than 100 people. The percentages might have been more representatives had there been greater loss of life there. Same thing with Lehman Brothers. Its technology operations in the WTC were teeming with Jewish techies from Brooklyn. There were very few casualties there also. I doubt if there were many Jews amongst the firefighters or policemen who lost their lives. Infact I`d be pretty amazed if there are a decent number of Jews in either of the professions. Same thing with the janitors and other daily-wagers as someone else pointed out.
urstruly is probably going thru the numbers now. Considering that only a thousand or so Muslims worked in the twin towers out of a total of 70000 and 220 of those 1000 died, it definitely seems to be a `zionist` conspiracy against the Muslims. Memory is cheap these days. Maybe his 24KB RAM needs an upgrade. Unfortunately it was manufactured in Saudi Arabia and can`t be upgraded. Hopefully is biodegradable though.

sherdil #349 Thanks again sherdil for an informative post. I full agree with you that the rest of us ``sofa warmers`` need to show our support for Pervaiz Musharraf in whatever way we can - he deserves all the help he can get, and God knows Pakistan needs the ``silent majority`` to put the ``vocal minority`` in it`s place.
May God bless Pakistan and the rest of the world during these troubled times.

Iam doing no such thing. I stick to my position as it is correct, The way I see it.
Did you happen to catch Hersch on Wolf Blitzer show with Saudi advisor to Crown Prince? Did you hear previous American Ambassadors dismiss Hersch?
Also did you notice today`s Washington Post with the headline story about Pakistan and ISI supplying Taliban? Did you notice that the story was taken from the Statesman of Calcutta (Kolkota) and that US officials did not confirm any of it??
For sure there is a Hindu nationalist and Zionist nexus in the print and television media. Zionist own these media and the Hindu nationalist just get a free ride because they are so far useful in the anti-Pakistan, anti-Islam tirade. But their days are numbered. When people like Thomas Friedman begin saying things like ``people or countries that get in the way of American success can expect long term consequences`` it time to take notice. But each to his own.

There have been a spate of reports in american and british media about how the ISI trained, armed and supported the taleban until last month. Hobbyty implies that the stories are all made up and that the ISI is just another harmless agency of the pak military. What is the image that the ISI have where you are? Are they heros, villains or nobody`s?

I`m hazy on where i read it. There definitely was a reference to what Narayanan had said of Musharraf in a story about india`s confidence on Mushy`s control over the nukes. Maybe they had clubbed the two together to make the point that i made.
Isn`t it interesting how hobbyty no longer alleges ``indian nationalist`` conspiracy? A conspiracy would imply that india has a strong influence over western mainstream media, something he would be very loathe to grant when he is gushing over Mushy`s upcoming dinner with Bushy.

Riot ,by THAROOR

INREVIEW: BOOKS
BEHIND THE FACTS
By Shailaja Neelakantan
Riot, by Shashi Tharoor. Penguin India. 295 rupees ($16)
Shashi Tharoor`s new novel, Riot, opens with the killing of an American social worker, Priscilla Hart, in northern India in 1989, when Hindus and Muslims clashed in bloody riots. The object of controversy is a 400-year-old mosque, the Babri Masjid, that Hindu militants eventually destroyed in 1992.
The official verdict suggests Priscilla was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But Tharoor is more interested in unofficial versions. He presents his story as a series of newspaper clippings, journal entries written by the characters and transcripts of conversations, revealing much more than the official version.
The married District Magistrate V. Lakshman, with whom Priscilla had been having an affair, agonizes in his journal about the state of his affair and affairs of state. Randy Diggs, a journalist from the New York Journal, has transcripts of several boozy interviews with the magistrate`s old college mate who heads the town`s constabulary. A secular Muslim academic and a militant Hindu bigot also espouse their causes to the journalist.
Riot weaves a whodunnit with contemporary history. But, most of all, it is a polemic for reason and peace. Tharoor`s conflicting and colluding sub-texts suggest that Hindus and Muslims have generally coexisted peacefully in India, that history is manufactured in the service of ulterior motives and that economic deprivation leads to sectarianism.
In his day job in the United Nations Department of Public Information, Tharoor probably knows reality is more multi-layered, but this is literature. Tharoor`s earlier two novels showed he is a master at fiction grounded in history. Priscilla`s father, a former Coca-Cola executive in India, says, ``I`ll tell you what your problem is in India. You have too much history. Far more than you can use peacefully. So you end up wielding history like a battle-axe, against each other. Whereas we at Coke . . . don`t worry too much about the past. It`s your future we want to be part of.``
For Tharoor, understanding the past is the way to the future.

Thanks for clarifying the meaning of PNS.
I had been watching that ``news item`` being bootlegged for a while with no small amount of amusement :)
It might still catch fire. Who knows? I doubt it will be as big and as huge a success for some as the ``Jews stayed way`` story was. Damn, I am now afaid of even discussing the reasons why it might not, lest I be helping some already talented copywriters and their minions.
Regards.
