Sri YLH :
``Azad Kashmir`` may not be Pakistan`s fifth province, but then Azad Kashmir is not all of Raja Hari Singh`s domain that is under Pakistani control. This other part is most certainly Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir.
And it is an argument for another time, but Azad Kashmir is also Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir.

....ylh, don`t waste your energy arguing with these horrible people who, like the serbs, are consumed by delusions of grandeur and generally full of it ..... not that i particularly care about kashmir - as far as i can tell they are about as worthless as afghans and vegetarians - but, it is a matter of principle ...... which principle, i don`t know; but i don`t think there a paki alive who would walk away from kashmir without a fight ...... unfortunately, judging from the rabidity of the saffron brigade on the chowk, it is evident that they too, inspite of being raised on bhaji and dal, are ready to shed what little blood they have ........ so really, we are at an impasse - they have it and won`t give it up, we don`t have it and won`t give up ...... so i guess one day we will have to settle it with nukes ...... it is silly and downright stupid to expect that we can get anywhere by talking or negotiating or flinging dung on the chowk .......
........ don`t you get tired of arguing the ``facts`` ? ......... now here is a fact for you - posession is 99% of the law ....... do i have a suggestion ? no......

PILLOW TALK an interview with Noam Chomsky, Not by BINA SHA or Shandana Minhas or any pak journalist.
NC - Indian attrocities in kashmir is comparable only to that of israel in palestine.
BS- That is a strong condemnation of the indians and the israelis, slandered two nations in one sentence.
NC Truth has to be told and it has to be told like a bullet from the mouth.
BS Mulsims killed in sectarian violence, that is the type not investigated by the police is more than that killed in kashmir.
NC that is adifferent matter altogether, I am a linguist, and sectarian as you can hear soundes very different from human rights, doesnt it.
BS- I am impressed by your scholarly approach to wrld problems. What do you think of honour killings, that is more than a couple of thousands a year.
NC- That is approved by the pak legal system. It is an economic dicision by the people of pakistan, collecting all the dishonoyred women and bringing them to a central place and killing is more expensive. If that were done there wont be so much of talk about honour killing. Basically it is the communists who are against honour killing, they dont like the private initiatives, they want everything to be centralised including honour killing.
BS- That is a very imaginative political interpretation. Basically you find every thing in pakistan fairy fine.
NC- Ofcourse- I dint bite the hand that feeds. I am black banned by the CNN, FOX and the like and other major american institutions. It is a little hard, but I do rake in a huge amount, and money is money, everything is for sale including sholarly views.
BS- Where is your next stop. Osama wanted my views on terrorism. I am waiting for a call from my bank in zurich before I leave.

WHAT IS IN A NAME
tahmed,
Pakistan has changed name before. It was west pakistan and east pakistan, I can still show you the good old oxford atlas. When bangladesh was created, you pakis simply dropped the west, pakistan. was there any annoncement, any allegedly legal process for the name change. Zilch, just nothing, only a new set of stationary.
Take heart, consider another name change.

The only field in which Chomsky`s views really matter is linguistics. He has a right to spew nonsense on other issues. Lots of very smart people tend to have weird views in areas far removed from their specializations and use their fame to promote their nonsense; Pauling on vitamin C, Shockley on genetics, Penrose on AI..etc.

`Shri` Macgupta,
I agree somewhat with you on Chomsky but why did Indians pronounce Oprah Winfrey to be an Islamic fundamentalist?

``Chomsky is a parasite because he does not understand and support the freedoms that enable him to spew all his nonsense without significant consequence to himself. A parasite is one who lives off the host to the disadvantage of the host.``
Wow! Chomsky is a disadvantage to the host, how? He doesn`t understand and support the freedoms, how? Arun Gupta, have you read Chomsky? Because he criticises he is a disadvantage? Very fascistic argument, that! Next you`ll be telling us Michio Kakitani is a parasite because a book reviewer, whose paycheck is guaranteed by the existence of books and a book-reading public dares criticise those books!
You might say Chomsky is more like a doctor dealing with a drunkard - he tells you what`s wrong with you. You of course hate that because you need your 2 drinks of beefeater before you could even drive out of the doctor`s office. I for one am grateful for Chomsky. I thought only zionists and ultra-nationalists had it against him but now i know differently - imported super-patriots also belong in that category.

Ok tell you what Arun Gupta ... You find me one Gilgat wallah who wants to break away from Pakistan... and I will not talk of Kashmir again, but dont fake it ok. The people I have met from Gilgat are some of most patriotic folk .... and I admire their gutts, their courage, and their love for Pakistan. Remember they consider themselves Gilgati Pakistanis, not Kashmiris.
In any event Gilgat is not part of Kashmir. That is a myth. Gilgat never was administred as the same unit as Kashmir, nor does the Sovereign State of Azad Kashmir make a claim on Pakistani territory of Gilgat or any of the other Northern Areas.
With all due respect, and I made this connection pretty late in the day, only Guptas are claiming that Gilgat wants to break away.
Sadna,
I am not arguing semantics either. Constitutionally and legally Pakistan has never integrated Kashmir into its mainstream territory. I disagree with you on how free or oppressed the republic of Azad Kashmir really is but my point is that India has integrated Kashmir into mainstream India in the 1950s in blatant disregard of UN resolutions whereas Pakistan has maintained the separate sovereign status of Kashmir atleast legally, and from my experience in practise as well but that is not the argument.
Now I wouldnt be arguing this had India maintained the special status of Kashmir... but they havent. Integrating Kashmir into the Indian Union as a mainstream state is against the UN resolutions and the `temporary` document of accession.

Besides the fact that there are 10 times more vocal cords Inians have to outshout fairness, they deviously spread this communalisation of Kashmir issue like a cunning fox.If inda had declared itself a HINDU state ,it was understandable ,but it projets itself SECULAR while governing with RSS Shiv Sena communal parties ,Bringing communal false accusation of Kashmiris, killing Pundits .It proves again India is two mouthed dangerous snake .
If some Kassmiri did kill Pundit Kashmiris ios no different than Abdullah or Farukh ministers being mined or bombed .Kashmir is a war zone ,Communal riots don`t go on for 12 years,
Killing of Kashmiri Pandits
By S Choudhry
The killing of Kashmiri Pandits, last month in the Valley of Kashmir, was shock to me and to all those Kashmiris who believe that Kashmir is not for Muslims only. It must also be shock to all those who believe in humanity, justice and democracy.
Kashmiri Pandits are part of the Kashmiri society and they have every right to live there in peace and harmony. The same right must be available to other Kashmiris irrespective of their cast, creed and religion. The Kashmiris have a long history of living together like brothers. Communalism was alien to the Kashmiri culture, we must all unite together to fight those who are endeavoring to introduce this in Kashmir. We have to respect each other’s right to live.
Whoever has carried out this callous and merciless massacre is enemy of the Kashmiri people. There is no evidence to show who has done this, but if it is done by the Kashmiri freedom fighters I strongly condemn it because this is not freedom struggle. If this is done in the name of religion I condemn that religion which allows such a barbaric killing of innocent citizens who are not even connected with the struggle. But if this is done by the government or its agencies it is also deplorable, because the primary role of the government is to protect its citizens, not kill in order to score political points against rival groups or freedom fighters.
It is quiet clear the perpetrators of this crime want to divide the Kashmiri community on communal lines, and lay down the foundations for the division of Kashmir. All those Kashmiris who want unification of the State must condemn and oppose acts like these. One doesn’t have to be a genius to understand who could benefit from this communal conflict and hence the division of the State on religious lines. We, Kashmiris, especially the nationalists, must oppose this and continue our fight for the unification and independence of the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Onion Reports
http://www.theonion.com/onion3632/terrorist_annoyed.html
CHICAGO— His flight from O`Hare to LaGuardia delayed more than six hours, Hamas militant and would-be suicide bomber Nidal Hanani vowed never again to fly United Airlines.
``I do not have time for this,`` said Hanani, seated at a Burger King in Concourse C, a plastic-explosives-filled duffel bag at his feet. ``My jihad against the West was supposed to be carried out shortly after takeoff at 8:35 this morning. It is now 2:50 p.m. How much longer must I sit around this airport like an idiot before God`s will is done?``
Added Hanani: ``They said the plane is still in Denver, where they are still waiting for a pilot from another flight. Screwed up, this United is.``
Compounding Hanani`s frustration is the fact that his two previous flights—a commuter shuttle from Assira al-Shamaliyeh to Damascus followed by a redeye from Damascus to Chicago—were also delayed by more than four hours each.
``The bile churns within me, I am so outraged,`` Hanani said. ``I go to the ticket counter, and the females wearing men`s clothing tell me, `We can put you on standby and try to get you on a 4 p.m. flight.` Why do they say this word, `try`? I did not buy a ticket for a 4 p.m. flight. I buy a ticket for a 8:35 a.m. flight.``
``I have kneeled toward Mecca three times today already,`` added Hanani, gesturing eastward in the direction of a TCBY stand. ``Still I wait.``
Shortly after 3 p.m., Sherrie Walker, a United Airlines representative, announced that anyone on Flight 225 willing to give up his or her seat and fly early the next day would receive overnight lodging and a $500 voucher good for travel on United anywhere in the continental U.S. Hanani declined the offer.
``Why should I want to fly again on this lousy airline that has given me nothing but the most profound of aggravation? Even for a free $500 ticket, it is not worth it,`` Hanani said. ``Besides, I cannot wait even one more day to deliver my urgent message to the world that Islam is the true religion of God and that its truth is manifest in its power.``

ylh,
``For all practical purposes the Republic of Azad Kashmir is a separate country like Puerto Rico is.``
I think you got that reversed. Azad Kashmir may have its president, but for all practical purposes Azad Kashmir is Pakistan. If you watch TV news, see the Pakistani maps they show.
And please let us know the truth about Punjabis and Pakhtoons being settled in `Azad` Kashmir, if you happen to know anything about the matter.
Later, we can later discuss the gift to China of a big chunk of `Azad` Kashmir land. Maybe the `Azad` kashmir `president` felt they had too much real-estate in `Azad` kashmir and too less people to run it.

re Chomsky
Yes I can see it now, all the progressive intellectuals like Noam Chomsky, Edward Said, Cornel West, Gayatri Spivak all parasites... Scholarship is truly worthless nowadays; who needs the written word, or reform or ideas when we could just create or support policies that dehumanize and bomb and starve a bunch of people we don`t care about anyway? Chomsky`s definitive and groundbreaking work in his own field of linguistics? Why he was just snatching roti from the mouths of starving children. Eddie, dying pseudo intellectual; who needs the much lauded theory of Orientalism when we have Naipaul, better known among South Asian Eng.crit.lit grad grrrlss as Uncle Ram...I mean, so what if they are supported by billions of readers who respect their work and incorporate their theories academically and within specific fields of research; these billions probably don`t pay their taxes anyway and are billions of parasites in consensus. Jon Swift got it right, lets start eating the children of the poor and rid ourselves of these pesky, complex IDEAS...
