`` When one gets the feeling of being frequently criticized, it is time to lie down and reflect on the possibility of self-improvement. And I am by no means suggesting that you are less than perfect or have any room left for further improvement.``
tahmed, being a part of a lynch mob doesnot make you right. You donot like me, so you(and others) never provide any reason for your disagreement to my views on public affairs except your dislike of me. I cannot respect these tactics so I feel no need to introspect.
Its a choice everyone can make for themselves, whether to attack the person they disagree with, or make some effort to explain their reason for disagreement. The second option requires some basic respect for the other person and is not the favored one for lynch mobs.

Why the anger?
I think it comes from a day in Bombay in 1993. I dont think you`ll understand.

And harimau: “Anatomy? People like Farzana Versey deserve it, don`t you think?”
That’s just plain mean…youre being b!tchy again...NO lady deserves the kind of crap you and your cousins in spirit on our side of the border come up with every few days...you really should apologize to farzana..she’s sucha doll, she’ll even accept :0)
Zafarsahab:
“Baygham Sahiba – I am second to none in my appreciation of the exchange of low insults on chowk, but the issue I was talking about is not one of general rudeness/unpleasantness. I’m talking about men who use language designed to specifically shut women up (language which is intimidating, or which women may not be socialised to respond with, or to). And I’m afraid WE do that on Chowk more than THEY do. Criticism should be fair, agreed, but it should also be honest – otherwise it’s pointless.”
Sometimes u really piss me off zafarsaab…dostmittar was quite right…well spoken people like you can present almost anything in a most convincing manner...not to say that youd ever use that skill for a bad purpose or be unfair in your critisism…oh no…
im not talking about language used towards women here..theek? samajhae aap? critisism, fair, honest, yes? zara bataain merae ko, explain to me in great detail why ali1 is someone you pick on and enjoy yourself immensely while doing it as is apparent in the great digs u come up with while urstruly is an aadha pig (kuch tau khuda ka khauf karrain) but saxena is just dandy nevermind him referring to the act of muslims praying in a congregation as shoving ones face into someones behind and also why harimau is sucha love when he repeatedly was mean to farzana and also why while ali is to be condemned, stuka is not..baat kya hae?

``so marry him,``
I`m not that brave. You`re already cross enough. (And anyway, this is Chowk, not Fiddler On The Roof.)
``...but seriously....When did I say Suxena was vile with women? I said his posts aren`t all together pleasant. Mine aren`t either.``
But hey, I`m not talking about posts which are merely unpleasant - I was being more specific, and I said so.
``To tell you the truth I find the women who are intimidated by such men at fault. For me, it`s the solution is pretty simple, give them a taste of their own sour medicine, and move on, instead of running away or screaming bloody murder.``
Everybody may not be as self confident or intelligent as you. That`s a misfortune, not a fault. Are you suggesting leaving them to sink wihtout having a chance to learn to swim?
``Well the ugliness pervades people from across the border as well. And I am by no means minimising it, just equally distributing it amongst all the morons (men that is)...I have been in the same predicament as Samina ``
Somebody called you a feminazi kanjar hijraa? And claimed you were not a woman? Somebody was insulting towards you using words that were loaded with reference to gender and respectability? Really? Who? Were they non-Muslims? Have any women been so described by non-Muslims on Chowk? Many? When? That`s my point.
``I gave them a piece of my mind and moved on. I didn`t run away or felt intimidated.
Mashallah. Good.
``Why should a strong person feel intimidated by a sorry person expressing his frustrations on Chowk?``
All people aren`t strong. As I asked before, should we be totally Darwinian about this? Also - do only strong people have worthwhile things to say? Do we lose nothing if ``weak`` people are pushed off chowk? I can think of plenty of ``strong`` people (that is to say ``loud`` people) who contribute less than some quiet ones.
[``I guess I feel that blaming the other group does nothing to fix ours, and in fact may retard that process. (And I’d say that about most groups I belong to.)``
``In the same light, you can say that blaming one group and not the other also retards the process.``]
Please explain your logic. I think spreading it around minimises the ugliness of that kind of behaviour by implying that it is found universally. (And anyway - if I`ve stolen somebody`s lunch money what does somebody else stealing lunch money in the next room have to do with it?)
What is your reasoning?
[``This post is a bit all over the shop - no offence intended, hope none taken.``
``None taken whatsover. I feel sorry that you belong to the gender you belong to. It`s not your fault. Just pray you live another life as a woman. ;)``]
Well, according to couple of our esteemed colleagues I am halfway there. But (blushing with pleasure) thanks anyway!
Best wishes,
Zafar

I didnot start it, I was replying to anNY #456 who mentioned my name. The nasty thing about chowk these days is I am scolded for my personal qualities on every board, including while discussing Indus valley civilization(believe it or not), I am called a bigot, a nazi, my sex life and gender are commented upon on a daily basis and if I reply I am abused some more. Guys I get the message, you donot like me. I have been hearing this for a long time, so its no surprise I GOT IT a long time ago, get it?
But I am not going anywhere. Live with it. SO STOP WHINING. Take your grouses and go to chowk staff, I am NOT interested in what you whiny losers think of me. So go get a life!

sadna #450 I see from anNy`s post that you wrote ``I will call people names when they call me names, whether ali1 or tahmed or anyone else.``
Moi? I obviously missed reading the post where I was thus honored by you. (Please dont enlighten me with your post in question where I was thus honored, since I waste enough time on chowk as it is and wont bother to read it.) Please call me what you like and I shall not mind it and will request anNy not to take the drastic measures she proposes. Name-calling, and refusal to admit a mistake let alone apologize for it, reveals a lot about the name-caller, and nothing about the person being called names.
As for myself calling you names (as you also indicate above), it was once (several months ago) when I compared you to a certain little creature in a moment of frustration on reading one of your rude posts. I apologized for that lapse on my part at the time, and I now see that you are as incapable of accepting an apology as your are of offering one.
So please carry on explaining how bad things are in ``pukistan`` and ``pukistanis``. Dont let me come in the way while you are thus having fun on chowk.

Zafar Al-Talib bin bilaT-lA rafaZ #445,
``Give the devil his due. Whatever RSaxena’s many faults (I don’t dare dispute them with you!) he is NOT vile to women – specifically he doesn’t call them vulgar names, caste doubts on their gender, or in fact use every sexist trick in the book to bully them into keeping quiet when they don’t agree with him or when he finds their views not to his liking. To be honest, he is consistently decent in that regard. It`s very unfair to say otherwise, no?``
so marry him, but seriously....When did I say Suxena was vile with women? I said his posts aren`t all together pleasant. Mine aren`t either.
I`m not pretending to be an angel, just telling it like it is.
``As a Muslim human being I find it troubling that so many of us resort to intimidating people into
being quiet when we don’t like what they say (I can see that I do this myself sometimes, it is not
something I am particularly proud of), and that often it’s women being intimidated in this way,
and that almost always it’s men doing the intimidating (when verbal or in writing by using
stereotypes from the ugliest aspects of our culture).``
To tell you the truth I find the women who are intimidated by such men at fault. For me, it`s the solution is pretty simple, give them a taste of their own sour medicine, and move on, instead of running away or screaming bloody murder.
``What’s also troubling (and this is not some sort of heavy criticism of you per se, just actually how it hits me) is that you felt the need to minimise the ugliness of their behaviour by giving in to this ``criticisms should be fairly distributed, the other side does it too`` thing.``
Well the ugliness pervades people from across the border as well. And I am by no means minimising it, just equally distributing it amongst all the morons (men that is).
``If any of the men who have behaved badly with Samina on Chowk had dealt with you in the same manner – and I suspect that they don’t more due to a coincidence of views than seeing you in a fundamentally different way - I think you would be offended and angry, and justifiably so.``
I have been in the same predicament as Samina with respect to the twelve head character and other idiotic males on this site, long before Samina was verbally attacked by the ball-less creature. I don`t know where you were when vile comments were passed to me, and I dealt with them. But the difference is, I gave them a piece of my mind and moved on. I didn`t run away or felt intimidated.
Why should a strong person feel intimidated by a sorry person expressing his frustrations on Chowk?

In the same light, you can say that blaming one group and not the other also retards the process.
