I liked it. But some interesting responses to the post, I see a big difference in the perception of the younger Chowkies & the older ones. (As ages not given anywhere I am only guessing here, based on readings from postings elsewhere).

I wish I cared enough to actually read all of this useless waste of precious bandwidth.

PS: ``you don`t see us complaning about that,``
And then you Indians get pissed when I call a spade for spade, and show you your true auqaat the liars that all of you are.
18 out of the last 20 posts of Mr.Rsaxena have been addressed to me complaining about exactly that... ironically those discussions weren`t even started by me but his own countrymen. I merely responded by showing you the facts which were too much for you to handle. By the way, once again, I am not on `Sulheka.com` nor am I on Hindustan Times or any Indian site.. I don`t wish to convince the Indians of anything.

....same reason you wish to bore us with nonsense about jinnah (the secular dude who wanted a country exclusively for Muslims)...you don`t see us complaning about that, so why don`t you keep your candy behind mum about this as well?...

This is a very interesting piece, I`ve read something similar somewhere (I`m sure originality is not what you were aspiring for here!) I think it`s somewhat indicative of diasporan youth wanting to make their mark, and issues of belonging/not belonging.
I`d like to know the reason behind anyone getting a tattoo, not just South Asians! :)
Good work Rehan!

Rehan is back to his dijointed old self again in this writing. But as with his older pieces, art
takes over from substance.
It is how one looks at such writing that becomes important here.
YLH, get a grip man!

Rehan,
Great work; the psychic/physical diapora is being represented.
Btw, I have an Austrailian friend who cites the body art/warrior subtexts of Maori tattoos for both men and women. It would be interesting to see if a common theme emerges in why specific groups choose to tattoo themselves.

Global Vigil for Peace Between
Pakistan and India
Organized under the banner: People for Peace Between Pakistan and India
When: Saturday, February 23, 2002 , 4:30p.m.-5:30p.m.
Where: Lake Elizabeth Park, outside Park Visitor Center
(off Paseo Padre Parkway)
Fremont, CA. 94538
Background
As the military standoff between India and Pakistan enters its third month, concerned people are continuing their vigils for peace in South Asia. The build-up of troops and arms along the India-Pakistan border can lead to a disastrous war … a war, that like previous wars, would only bring death, destruction, misery and impoverishment to the citizens of the two nations … a war that could culminate in a nuclear holocaust annihilating millions in both countries and endangering the whole world.
Peace-loving people in Pakistan, India, and all over the world, are demonstrating for peace. SIMULTANEOUS PEACE VIGILS are being held in India and Pakistan, and around the world, on the last weekend of every month. These simultaneous meetings take place under the banner of ``People for Peace Between Pakistan and India``. The first vigil in this series was held in Palo Alto on January 27th, 2002 as part of the global vigils held in 18 cities all over the world and this vigil will be the second in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Memorandum
We urge the governments of both Pakistan and India to:
1. Reopen all communication and travel links between the two countries.
2. Sign a No War Pact.
3. Set up a Permanent Dialogue Process for continued and uninterrupted negotiations to settle all outstanding issues, including Kashmir (involving Kashmiris from both sides of the border) and cross border terrorism.
4. End and reverse the nuclear weapons race, actively engage in Global Nuclear Disarmament initiatives.
5. Establish long-term trade and commerce links.
We would like to call upon all peace-loving people to come to this peace vigil and we request you to sign on the above memorandum of demands.
