``It is in India`s interest to lay a long term plan to break it up in a manner that favors us. We should reach an understanding with Afghanistan and encourage Pashtun nationalism in NWFP and have it united with the Afghanistan. We should encourage Balochi and Sindhis to break away and we`ll be able to kill two birds with one stone by also securing a conduit for energy supplies from Iran.
As I say, it is time to put Pakistan out of it`s misery.``
And this year`s L.K.Advani Samman Puruskaar goes

Pankaj #202 The pakistan army is definitely not crazy. If anything, it is crazy like a fox. And I just read (as I had been predicting) that BJP just called off the charade of going for a ``decisive war``: per today`s internet Dawn, they have given Pakistan 2 months to stop border incursions or something, or else Vajpayee will get unhappy. And Advani will go a step further and hold his breath until he turns blue and then Musharaff will be sorry :-)
More seriously: the only solution I can think of is for the Indian government to stop thinking in terms of what it CANNOT do (destroying pakistan, whatever that means) and start thinking in terms of what it CAN do. And the best thing it can do is to promote democracy in Pakistan on every front.

`` Pakistan must choose between the two options- sustained cross border terrorism or risking very serious measures by India such as abrogation of the treaty.``
I am amazed that we are honoring ANY treaty when those that don`t suit Pakistan (Simla agreement, Lahore declaration) are treated like toilet paper by them. I concur and we should start diverting water to India ASAP.
It is very clear that a united Pakistan is an obstacle to meaningful peace in the region and will never make peace as long as the military calls the shots. It is in India`s interest to lay a long term plan to break it up in a manner that favors us. What about the nukes? I won`t be surprised if The United States doesn`t already have contingency plans for taking care of them at the first sign of real instability in Pakistan.

At last my dream of being cursed by YLH is fulfilled! I am so happy, all my anger is gone away. I am now content, at peace with myself. Yes dear fellow, I meant exactly your ``ilk``, if you permit me to use that word, when I said that nasty thing about cribbing about India to a Pakistani (I definitely do not include t, anNy, drumz or any of the nice Pakis here in that list....not even...gasp...Urstruly, willya believe it....at least he knows what he`s talking about)
Harpreet, your last post killed me. Suffice to say I will never ever attack you personally again.... which doesn`t mean of course that I won`t oppose your viewpoints on all kinds of issues, whether it`s Pakistan or Punjab! But you`re right, it`s not exaclty the best of times and this war thingie is confusing my simple lil brain more than ever.
Neptune, you are so cute! That bit about how I had ``mentioned`` that I was from a particular institute was as insidious as anything Prez Mush has done and worse! Nice to know ``we`` have slimeballs this side of the border too.

``Pak`s army is a very rational organization that periodically feigns irrationality``
Pankaj, I cannot call the Pak`s army`s various decision to back Taliban`s civil war for so many years inspite of ruining its own interests in Central Asia while weakening Pakistan internally, very rational. Zia`s using the long years and millions of dollars of US support to strengthen the Army instead of improving ordinary Pakistanis standard of life was not very rational. Nor is supporting jihadis to finish off all moderate voices in Kashmir very rational. Nor was Kargil very rational. Nor was East Pakistan very rational. IMO those heading the Pakistani Army have had so firm a belief in their own invincibility and have been so insular in their decisionmaking, that they repeatedly miss the strong signals that indicate a change of policy is required. I don`t think thats very rational.

I believe in Prem`s theory that Pak`s army is a very rational organization that periodically feigns irrationality to get what they want against a powerful adversary. I dont think any Pak General can nuke India unless the very survival of Pakistan is threatened. Again I agree with Hasan Sahab that there are many ways to skin a cat. Abrogating Indus water treaty is the most serious non-war option as I see it. Hopefully Pakistanis would act rationally and give away their policy of cross border terrorism, but then you should remember that I am an eternal optimist :) If Pak decides to go to war over the abrogation of the treaty, then we would fight. Pakistan must choose between the two options- sustained cross border terrorism or risking very serious measures by India such as abrogation of the treaty.

sadna,
Not just more nukes. I read a report that suggested that China is helping (following Supreme Whore`s visit to that country)Pak miniaturise nukes so they can be fitted easily into missiles. Today, Pak has not been able to do this though it has nuclear capable aircrafts to deliver the nukes. All this will take a few more years. Once this happens, people even down South have to shudder what this crackpot dictator will do to avenge his hatred of hindus.

sadna #195:
``IMO Musharraf cannot consider nuking India this time round because there are US soldiers in Pakistan and Afghanistan and the US will not want its soldiers to be put at risk of being nuked and its `war on terrorism` preempted by such an horrendous event.``
I do not understand this logic. If Musharraf is willing to nuke a few million Indians and risk the lives of another few million Pakis (in retaliatory Indian nuking), why should the presence of a few thousand Americans matter to him?
Pankaj #194:
``I support your stand on NO WAR. Those who are advocating war perhaps do not realize what they are wishing for. Once started WAR would convert the WHOLE subcontinent into a big barren desert.``
Here come the peaceniks showing the nuclear bhooth and hoping to scare everyone. I am one of those guys who think that we can fight a limited war, not escalating into a nuclear one. Musharraf miscalculated, as earlier too, the resolve of Vajpayee & Co. In 1999, he thought India would keep quiet when his boys occupied the peaks and tried to cut off the supply link to Siachen. He was proven wrong. Now he thinks that India is bluffing when his boys attack us with impunity. Well, he will find out.

“Talking of convictions , did you spend yours debating your convictions .”
That should be “speaking of convictions…” but I liked the pun. (Probably plagiarised.)
