Subroto,
Thank you very much for that! I`m sure it will go a long way in sensitizing the audience to the apocalyptic consequences of a nuclear war. I`m pretty sure that even amongst us medical students, educated though we`re supposed to be, few realise the extent of the devastation. I`m grateful for your taking time out to send me the info.
In case there`s more, please send it to: pediatrishun@yahoo.com
Sincerely,
Aamir Ansari

Peter Sellers portrays the three men who might avert this tragedy: British Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, the only person with access to the demented Gen. Ripper; U.S. President Merkin Muffley, whose best attempts to divert disaster depend on placating a drunken Soviet Permier and the former Nazi genious Dr. Strangelove, who concludes that ``such a device would not be a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious``. Right next to Coney Island is possibly the largest single concentration of people of Pakistani origin in the United States.
In the tenaments owned by Jews, inhabited and run by Pakistanis and Puerto Ricans, Coney Island Blvd. was very much rattled by 9/11 like the rest of us here in the U.S.
Many Pakistanis have been deported (read the Pak
press today).
9/11 was the work of terrorist butchers. And nobody today wants to admit even remote assocition with their creation. Such is the way of the world.
Sadly in the process of ``freedom fighting``we also lost control of our once festive City of Lights (Karachi).
Will our city ever make a comeback?

KASHMIR BANEGA PAKISTAN,
Pakistanis are very concerned about the human rights situation in kashmir, they want the kashmiris to be treated with dignity. They are of course offering after kashmir becomes pakistan, generous human rights concepts like hodood ordinance, honour killing and blasohemy laws. Now US has also joined in offering pakistanis some human rights high points and will be available to kashmiris once they become pakistanis. They will be finger printed on entry to US, when they are deported, the will be chained to their seats in aircraft, treated as naturally terrorists, no more green cards.
What a fantastic range of previleges the ilks of romair are offering, of course along with life membership of amnesty international.

``Will our city ever make a comeback?``
Ras, for what it`s worth, I think think it will. You gotta be here to feel why. There is a good mix of resilience and resignation and yes, that sometimes helpful element of denial that keeps us somewhat sane, that makes me believe Karachi is far from its death throes. There are enough of folks here (yet!) who still remember the peaceful, vibrant city it used to be and strive to regain that verve. All we need, one feels, is for the economy to pull itself up by the bootstraps.
Oh, and police reforms, which I hear are underway...
Of course, no one is suggesting that anyone plan to spend their summer holidays here yet-- or for some time.

Amir Hadad and Qureshi (left) made it to the third round
Pakistan`s Aisamul Haq Qureshi has been condemned by his country`s sports officials for partnering an Israeli at Wimbledon. Qureshi has teamed up with Amir Hadad and together they upset 11th seed Rick Leech and Ellis Ferreira on Friday to make it to the third round of the men`s doubles.
Qureshi, a 22-year-old Muslim, created history with the help of Jewish Hadad by becoming the first Pakistani player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam event.
A Jew and a Muslim playing together is not the end of the world
Amir Hadad
But instead of being celebrated back in his home country, officials are considering imposing a ban over his choice of partner.
``Although he is playing in his private capacity, we officially condemn his playing with an Israeli player and an explanation has been sought from him,`` said Pakistan Sports Board director Brigadier Saulat Abbas.
``Since Pakistan has no links with Israel, Qureshi may face a ban.``
Qureshi was unperturbed by the controversy and is hoping his decision to leave politics on the sidelines will be seen in a positive light.
``I am surprised at the fuss being made over my partnership,`` he said. ``I would like to be talked about for my tennis rather than politics.
``If we can change people`s minds then that would be a good thing.``
Qureshi played a key role in Pakistan`s Davis Cup semi-final win over Taiwan in the Asia Oceania zone group II.
But his place in the team for their vital Davis Cup tie against China in September has been thrown into doubt.
Qureshi (right) and Hadad have formed a good partnership
``When players compete on the professional circuit they are not bound to national federations,`` Pakistan Tennis Federation President Syed Dilawar Abbas said.
``But we have sought an explanation from him and if advised by the government we may take action.``
Saeed Hai, a former leading Pakistan player, also condemned his actions in the light of the current relations between the two countries.
``Due to the bloodshed in the Middle East, Qureshi`s pairing with an Israeli player is wrong,`` he said.
But Pakistan`s tennis captain Rasheed Malik spoke up in support of Qureshi.
``We should appreciate his progress in an international event rather than criticising it,`` Malik said.
``At times you have no option when it comes to choosing your partner and what he has achieved should be appreciated.``
Making money
The 24-year-old Hadad also remained defiant against any criticism of their partnership.
``I don`t care what people think about it,`` said the 24-year-old Hadad.
``As long as we enjoy playing together we will continue. When we agreed to get together it was all about doing well here, making some money and improving our doubles ranking.
``If we win here then I would dedicate the victory to my family and to peace.
``It would be good for those doubters to see that even though we are from different religions it is possible for us to work together and have some fun.
``A Jew and a Muslim playing together is not the end of the world. We are all human beings. We have the same blood, the same skin.``

Very thought provoking. Am I the only person who prays that if a nuclear bomb drops on Delhi my family is within ground zero at the time? (Palam Vihar, Mr Subroto. What do you think our chances are?)

WEARING PAK T-SHIRT
At the start of the afghan campaign, the resident field marshal was so happy with the pak us relations that he urged the pakistanis to wear pak t-shirts in the US. Now that the real nature of pak situation has become known to the US, the treatment of pakistanis in US has changed dramatically.
The same field marshal view can be seen in the following item from dawn of today, the reported is so proud that the US are teaming up with the pak forces. Little does he know that the exercise will be using live targets, the so called al-quaida men as identified by the US.
It is disheartening to see the free loading mentality among the pakistanis, educated or other wise. It is time to realise, you had one chance to plunder what was left behind by the hindus, and there is no more, kashmir will not be the next one for you to plunder.
Pakistan, US mlyexercises this month
By Qudssia Akhlaque
ISLAMABAD, June 30: Pakistan and US special operations forces will begin tri-services exercises involving army, navy and air force by the end of July, well-placed sources told Dawn on Sunday.
They said each of the three planned exercises, some of which would be held in August, would last about a week and would be carried out in plains, mountains and sea.
These will be the first joint tri-services exercises to be conducted between the Pakistan-US forces, and will be of a much larger scale than those India carried out with the US special forces in May.
``The operational significance of these exercises is far more as they will follow the full operational cycle of military co-ordination, planning, execution and then de-briefing,`` explained a senior defence official pointing out that the Indo-US exercises confined largely to para-jumping.
Dates and specifics including the number of the participating US special operations forces in the planned ``high-tech military exercises`` still remain unavailable.
Pakistan`s military spokesman, Major Gen Rashid Qureshi said the other day that the joint Pakistan-US exercises were at the planning stages. ``Dates and level of exercises are not finalized,`` he said.

Shankar,
Well, I do think as a professional psych person, your questions are a bit disingenious....also add in the dynamics that play out on a site like Chowk...and you will run into the same conclusion that follows: It is IMPOSSIBLE for female interactors to be able to discuss matters of sex in a frank and open manner.
Remember, we are on a cyber forum, and if to question spiritual practice/belief will get result in one`s being labelled names that the rightwing among us perceive as ``shameful``, imagine the reaction if we started to act like mature and intelligent beings and discoursed about sex? Hell would indeed freeze over, pigs would fly, and Bette Midler would actually get a sitcom that worked for her....it won`t ever happen...and yes, we are quite aware of the double standard of Urstruly asking us our price and making comments about movie actresses derrieres without so much as blink from 12 head, HA, progressive, ali, and the various and sundry anonymous nicks- but should a well known and respected young female interactor even interact in an slightly warmer than frigid manner towards any male interactor? Its the scourge of the West come to infect us....its why we can`t practice reproductive self determination, wear burqas, and abstain from all contact from men and bad thoughts-we are grown children, you see....we must be protected and reminded of whats good for us....
I believe many of my Indian sisters understand....

If bin Laden and the rest of the mujaheedin had NOT been funded to fight the Soviets, would the Soviet Union NOT have collapsed?
This is the dumbest statement. The Soviets chances of staying with US in microelectronics is close to zero. Better microelectronics has lead to more powerful and accurate weapons. I would take 5000 NATO jets with precision guided munitions over 5 million Soviet troops.
