you are underestimating yourself. The depth of your work in incredible. I really liked the analogy of Sal, Pinta, Nina, and Santa Maria etc. That was the most brilliant touch.

Thanks for your encouranging replies. It is truly an honor to be the cause of a mini flame war on chowk :-) I`m not as productive as I`d like to be due to my day job and all that, but I will try to submit stuff more often. This particular story does not currently have a sequel, but if I think of one, I will send it in.

Sorry to disappoint you again. You should have provided the script in the last post, and then I could have followed it to the T.

no no NO !! you were supposed to say `go to hell` or some such thing very politely and then I could say `you too` or some such thing equally politely ofcourse. Must be the weather people are becoming too mellow nowadays !! take acer!

I am sorry I rubbed you the wrong way.
I was merely pointing out the lack of interest of us desis in a futuristic piece of fiction. Again my appology if any other posters felt offended. It was not my intention.

``Also most of the responses are no more than `I like it``
Whats this?? Mr Hari Inder - I am glad you liked the story and made it a point to respond with more than a ``I like it``. Now pls allow the rest of us mere mortals to interact the way we see fit = and not thru your tunnel visioned or not - mentality. thankyou very much !!

It is interesting to note that a science fiction story produces six responses, from the desis, whereas a discussion on religion, brings response in hundreds.
Also most of the responses are no more than `I like it`.
The story is indeed interesting and welcome as something new on this forum. The story line develops beautifully and ends in a nice climax. There is an adequate attention to the detail and the scientific basis of the plot is well thought out and believable.
However, in the time frame in which this story is set, I believe and hope that we have other eggs in the basket. Hopefully human race will have colonized the planets of stars that are nearer to us than 50 light years.
Also, I agree, in time there will be synthetic humans being, who would be stronger and with higher IQs than ordinary humans, but at the same time, there will be enough advancement in the medical and genetic fields to make humans live a healthy life for centuries. In my view human beings will be part of any space adventures, irrespective of how far we develop the artificial intelligence.

Interesting ideas and plot. Is there a second chapter?

Oh God I was so stupid I did not read it before. This is the smartest thing I have ever read at Chowk.

Fun. More mystery, more problems to solve, more discovery, more mystery. I`m with Sal, ``save us, not the whales``
