Veeresh iv`e enjoyed reading your witty and enlightening article, but the point about Mangla dam and Mirpur suggested that Mirpuries emigrated to UK because of the dam is not the whole story emigration started from Mirpur in the early 1950`s,way before any plans for the dam were concieved.
However the dam did accelerate the process of migration from Mirpur to the point now there is a half milion strong mirpurie community inthe UK.
Alot of reseach has been carried out by UK institutions but the best i think is by Manchester University i hope to write an article in the chowk,as to the reason why such huge number of people migrated from a small district of Mirpur(ak)

re: standards of pak journalism
After this, i will not believe anything being said in Paki newspapers:
http://www.pakobserver.net/200209/30/default.asp?id=10
``Lest we forget, India’s missile father and current President Abdul Kalam had first come to Pakistan from abroad to seek some suitable job. He was treated shabbily by our bureaucrats, which forced him to go to New Delhi. Such episodes should not be repeated now, as these qualified professionals are a national asset.``

What sort of an article is this? The main purpose seems to ridicule Roy or use her name to get your article read. Pity, such a waste of writing skill. It could have been used to reach out to the everyday man, open their eyes, educate them, help them get out of the habit of taking what they get without questioning....
Such a pity, read articles like yours and one wonders what can we expect from the masses when the path taken by the educated leads nowhere.

That is true. India is disillusioned but for the right reasons. It stands disillusioned because US has been unable to (or unwilling to ) see the true face of Mushy Rat and Co. (it has its own compulsions or reasons). Some day it will. India has to wait patiently and keep posting evidence to Uncle Sam.

Arjun
Poor Hindu fanatics - this rage you express for Pakistan, for the international community, for Muslims in general - this is a reflection of what is going on inside you - Why are you so angry, so hollow? Why are constantly thumbing your nose? What has it gotten you?
Shaking in boots? Do you thin now is the ideal time to attack Pakistan, the source of India`s problem and by ``opposing, end them``? Do you think Indian forces have any credibity after this extended camp out? So, when do think this great indian force that thumbs it`s nose at the UN will attack Pakistan?

India isolated in the diplomatic community?India disappointed with the US? no one to run and complain to? Has the arrogance of hindu fanatics finally caught up with them? Pervaiz Musharraf gets standing ovation at Harvard - invitations to speak at US think tanks - Vaypai, well, he`s in Ny too. Will Hindu fantics come to their senses and negotiate?

US and India: Back to square one
By Sultan Shahin
NEW DELHI - The first year of the post-September 11 world has been one of disillusionment for India. Nothing could symbolize this better than the isolation of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New York, despite a meeting with President George W Bush on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in which the latter talked of a ``strategic relationship``.

SC upholds change in school syllabus
PTI [ THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2002 11:04:14 AM ]
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the National Curriculum Framework for Secondary Education - 2002 rejecting allegations that it was an attempt to saffronise the syllabus for schools.
The three-judge Bench comprising Justice M B Saha, Justice D M Dharmadhikari and Justice H K Sema by a 2:1 majority held that non-consultation with Central Advisory Board for Education (CAB), in the framing of the NCFSE could not be held as a ground to declare the national syllabus framed by NCERT as unconstitutional.
Dismissing the petition filed by Aruna Roy and others, the court vacated the March 1, 2002 interim order of the apex court, which had stayed the implementation of NCFSE across the country. In the result, the new syllabus will become effective for the Secondary Education in the country.
Study of religions could not be equated with imparting of religious instructions, Justice Saha and Justice Dharmadhikari said while delivering the judgement.
Holding that NCFSE was framed by NCERT, an expert statutory body, the judges said ``what is sought to be imparted in the new syllabus is value education and the essence of all religions which is based on the same principle of love for all``.

All of those hand-wringers apologizing for being born a Hindu and abusing in a knee-jerk fashion anything that is done by the BJP government:
The Supreme Court has ruled that there is nothing wrong with the new education curriculum put out by the Central government.
So, stop whining about the ``saffronization`` of Indian education.
If you admired the Supreme Court of India for not choosing to intervene in the Election Commission`s decision to postpone the elections in Gujarat, admire equally this judgment that says value-based education is okay.

Your knowledge of hinduism and Swami Vivekananda is pathetic. You lack scholarship, which tells in your posts. Have you read any book on Vivekananda? Please quote me a sentence where he preached hatred against anyone, leave aside muslims.
During his extensive travels, initially in US and later in UK, Swami Vivekananda observed material prosperity but also lack of spirituality in these lands. He also bemoaned the fact that India, despite being a very spiritual place for ages, lacked the industriousness and scientific achievements of the west. He advocated a blending of the 2 cultures, wherein West would borrow much of India`s methods (especially Yoga) and India would learn from west`s materialistic ways.
Indeed, what he had hoped for is being achieved. There is no dearth of spiritual seekers from the west flocking to India. India, OTOH, has pinned all its hope on scientific progress and is steadily marching towards that objective.
