i am talking about the universally accepted--and scientifically proven now--prototype of beauty: symmetry, oval face, straight fine nose, high cheekbones, fair-ish skin, big eyes, flawless skin...)
Dude, there is no ``scientifically proven`` prototype of beuaty. It all depends on perception which in itself is influenced by culture. Compare Reuben`s painting with today`s Fashion Models
RSaxena:
.``..her job is not to look sexy...neither was janet reno`s...neither is condy rice`s...neither was madeleine albright`s...what`s your point?.... ``
Um, I think his point is that education and ``deportment`` have nothing to do with beauty. I am inclined to agree but not completely.

The only problem is no Pakistani girl will meet you on a blind date. That is how backward many of these girls are.
Anyway, in US Pakistani women are conspicuous by their absence. I used to wonder why until i came across some sitting in Devon street (Chicago) in one of the shops owned by brother/uncle. There they were, 2 Pakistani girls, sitting on their bums and whiling away their time waiting for a prince to sweep them of their feet. Out of curiosity, i asked one of them why why they can`t further their career instead of sitting on their butt. Both were young and it seemed so much a waste of time in this land of opportunity. One of them looked like she was offended. Clearly, the talk of working was offensive to her! She said she did not have to work as all her and she is here only for ``time pass`` as she put it.
Herein lies the difference. In US, you find middle class Indian women sweating it out. They come in all hues and colors but they all seem to want to move up the social ladder. And let us face it, not all of them are good looking as they need not have to be. They have the talent and they can use talent instead of their looks.
Sridhar
PS: Of the 2 Pakistani girls, one was good looking, the other was ugly and both were fair.

You are saying the same thing that i was saying. For today`s fashion industry, a lot of investment goes into this ``deportment`` department. Otherwise, models will not invest so much time learning to walk and talk in a certain way. The gorgeous woman you met in Pak will have no takers in the fashion industry unless she changes her whole personality. You and i did not make these rules. That is how fashion industry is. Heck, even Madhubala (who was arguably the most beautiful woman to light up the bollywood screen) would have few takers today if she dressed the way she did.

Omar,
You are on the right track, a new line of fashion clothes for the pakistani women. Since the election, there have been abuse of women in islamabad for not being properly dressed. Time for you to have an Omar line of burkhas, ones with red verticl grills, and some with horizontal ones, with islamic green or military green. These would be in great demand.
At this juncture your article should have been about the irrelevance of fashion in pakistan. Soory, that would have made your article relevant which is a no..no on chowk.

Jay -- sorry to smother your sarcasm but in case u didnt notice this article was written in early august, well before the oct election -- also i hope your not one of those pakistanis/desis who live abroad and love to pontificate about going-ons at home since most of what such people say is either misinformed or misplaced, or both -- regards

arjun_M,
so was Waheeda Rehman & Sadna. They were generally plain looking women, who, IMO looked spectacular in the parts they played. I used to see Indian movies upto the 80s..living in the US; esp in bfe Michigan, I lost touch:(
Now I dont even know what da F*CK Madhuri Dickshit looks like (much to Romair`s glee)
...whaddya know!! We got our very first danaewallah dukaan in bfe a few months back. He rents a modest collection of philmy videos. Guess what? Its owned by a gujju-muslim who is---of all things an ex-Indian army Captain!! I never knew such an entity existed:)!...until I met Hamzadbhai!..but thats another story....
Welllllll?!; can some nice person here recommend me a good Dickshit movie? I heard shes got a nice chest...ahemmm..umm.. I`m a chest guy.
But only another small SINCERE request..O Chowkwalloh..it should`nt be ``you-got-to-leave-your-brains-at-home`` kinda movie..OK?! you know the type I`m talking about... I`ve taken a few days off, so ..please...
Thanking you; advance..

aah...mr rsridhar is upset that pakistani girls wont go on blind dates. thank Allah there is some modesty left in our women masha Allah. Why should they go on blind dates if they don`t want to?
I think what annoys the hinood is that our women--on the whole--alhamdulillah, have sharm and ghairat and hayaa and don`t let themselves become the objects of lust of other men by going on dates and things.

Yo Saxena!,
My most revered friend on Chowk....judging from the 2 pictures of ``yourself`` that you sent to Chowk...for all of us to gaze at ..& imagine it was YOU...may I,er, humbly suggest...that when it comes to ``looks``...you..er..should be the last person to open your trap!!...
By any chance, if you even REMOTELY resemble any of those samples...you better thank your lucky stars that ``arranged`` marriage is the norm in Indian culture...

Yo Nasbandhi:) !!
{{if most indians are honest they will accept that generally pakistanis are better looking than indians--of course there are exceptions...}}
See now THAT is the basic difference between an Indian & a Pakistani...er..I mean Pakistani bigots like YOU ---the last phrase was ``just in case`` tahmed is reading--I dont want a sermon!:))
Most Indians accept that Pakistanis gals have the POTENTIAL to look better than our gals. Most of you have ``phoren`` genes...in this case..Central Asia is ``phoren`` too ..so.. born with an ``advantage``. I dont have great admiration for a multi-millionaire Saudi..who was born with a silver spoon in the mouth....So, if Pakistani girls, in general, are prettier means DIDLEY SQUAT!!
Even though we dont have that potential; PLENTY of our women have capitalised on what little potential they have; & lately have been winning international beauty pagents & creating a huge workforce for themselves.. Not only that, even Pakistanis living in the US admit that Indian women are ready, willing & able to join the workforce AND successfully raise kids in the US.
Whats the frikking ``use`` of having so many potentially goodlooking women, if you guys are not even allowed to ``flaunt it``? I mean... your first cousin can brag that his wife(s) are the most beautiful woma/en in the world...duhhhh..how do YOU know? hahn?...he maybe have scarecrow(s) under the burkha(s) ...you havent actually SEEN her/them or had a rough idea how her/their figure is....
heck, it seems the general Pakistani mentality is so conservative that a women who even exposes her shoulders is not seen of ``good`` character! My sis-in-law had gone to Karachi (in the early 80s) & it was`nt considered ``proper`` if she went to visit relatives in slacks...forget about a girl in her late teens wearing shorts in the house! ..maybe Karachi has changed now, has it? anNy?
So, keep your beautiful women....with our blessings!! If you guys are so insecure about exposing even a slight bit of them; whats the...er...i`m trying to find the right word here....er..``use``??? I mean? is it such a HUGE sin the look at the merchandise..but DONT touch..hahn? let me ask you!!
Know what the problem with Pakistan is?? The brain power of women is UNDERAPPRECIATED & UNDERUTILISED..in Pakistan...call me a bigot; but under the garb of ``chastity`` & ``morality``; the Pakistani MEN have constantly pushed them down...
The BRAINS of Pakistani MEN are nothing worth bragging about!! If Pakistani men are honest; they will accept it...ofcourse there are exceptions... Anyways, methinks Pakistani men DESPARATELY need to utilise the brainpower of their women... Judging from the few Pakistani women on Chowk, their brains (& tongues) & temper are sharp as whips. If anyone can whoop a smart alec Indian, its them...not you buttheads...LEAST OF ALL not your ARMY!!! Those soldier boys have never won a frikking war in their glorious history...but strut around like their s*it dont stink!:))

rsaxena--we kicked your ass in Kargil pretty well i seem to remember before you had to get America to pressurise NS to pull out the mujahideen. And the mujahideen in IOK also seem to be doing well in kicking the butt of the indian soldiers considering they are outnumbered a few thousand to 750, 000 of your brave hinood warriors..
:-D
