The issue here is not the right to write a poem. The objection is about the quality of poem, worth submitting to chowk for publishing. Moreover, acknowledging Toronto Arts Council for writing such a poem in five minutes. It sounds very egotistic as if the author is in a position to sell his name recognition. Piccaso, Dali or other famous artists could sell their name but most people are conscious of their standard even if they can sell sh1t with their name label on it.
Any of a number of interlocutors here can put together couple of their posts and submit to chowk as article but they do not feel like doing it. What urges a person to submit an article is confidence of standard, a desire to publish their work and discuss it. A piece like this one was worth a post and not an article. It would have never seen the light of the day if submitted by a non-featured author or without little name recognition.
Everybody should be creative and write whatever they wish to write but present it humbly as a post if it is just worth a post. Many well known poets discard many of their creations when compiling their work for publication.

Tahmed,
Welcome back and deepest condolences.
The single greatest act one can perform in this life is to raise children everyone can be proud of. Your father, dear friend, lived very very well.

Sameer Sahib:
Sometimes a kiss is just a kiss, but then a man with your intellect has every right to think otherwise ;) Adaab arz hai!! Your post on paan and its ingredients was side-splitting.
godot:
Rehan has just sued me for plagiarism.....so the rest of the diary will remain out of circulation.........................for now i.e.
Aamir:
You sir can be somewhat tolerable on the rare ocassion when one can understand you.
scout:
Thanks for your kind words. We disagree occasionally but at least it never goes over 1000 words like MY dearest friend Field Marshal ROmair.
temporal:
Dawn just republished one of my earlier articles in its Education section. There is a new one coming out in the Review section later this week. If it doesn`t get on the web, I`ll promise to submit it to Chowk. Get the knives or daggers or whatever your chosen weapons ready.
anNy:
Nice comeback......gorgeous feelings or not lets drop this one till Rehan fires back with another one of his Peter Maxes.
tAhmed32:
We were somewhat concerned about your absence. Glad to have you back. Seems your father lived a purposeful and fulfilling life. May God give you and your dear ones the courage to bear the enormous loss.

Hmmm...
It is pretty easy to critique music and separate good music from bad music. But apparently, very difficult to critique art and peotry. Personally, I could never figure out why Picasso is so hot, either. But that could be more an indication of my lack of understanding, rather than Picasso`s talents.
Similarly, I cannot really see much in Rehan`s writings. But that could also be more an indication of my lack of knowledge on good literature.
The worst thing anyone can do to an article is to just say it su//ks, or make fun of it, without pointing out why, or writing something better. So, I would have to say that I cannot make heads or tails of this poetry, hence I don`t think it is that great. But since the Toronto Arts Council liked it, maybe it is quite good, and I just cannot undersand it.
