...what do you think of this article?...this desi woman tries to explain why many single, well-educated desi men have started avoiding equally well-educated desi girls, but have no problems going for non-desi girls of the same calibre...

I am also looking for a 20 year old with a PhD in Sociology from University of Califgornia. She must have all the attributes as outlined by the author except proficiency in kathak nauch -I hate kathak nauch. Luddi would do.

rsaxena: Here is my theory. This is the first generation of desi women enjoying emancipation whereas desi men are in their one and a half generation of freedom. The first generation always takes change very seriously and fiercely defends positive change. Men have been coming to USA about 20 years sooner than most women. They would come here, get educatioin or do work and many will go back, raise family and try their best to have their family experience of emancipation either back in subcontinent or moving to USA and Canada.
I do not like ABCD term, so I will use emancipation instead. Desi men, once emancipated do not remain desi in selctions including soulmates although most do marry desi women due to the advantage of marrying into the culture of their choice. Emancipated women are lot more interested to pass desiness into next generation and wish to find desi soulmates because most of them are still tied to their desi families. Only few live and work independent and away from their families. My experience with independent women, who came to this country on their own for higher educationi or jobs (without faimilies) are as open to non-desi soulmates and dating as desi men. One one hand family is a soce of joy and satisfaction but on the other hand it is a drag on total freedom.
There you have it. For H-1 and other new arrival men, emancipated girls are mismatch for desi men being too conservative and mismatch for emancipated men who treat emancipated desi girls no different than any other emancipated girl. As a minority group, if emancipated desi women are not preferred by emancipated desi men, the opportunity to meet shrinks tremendously for those who restrict themselves to finding desi men.
Notice, not a single girl at chowk have ever openly claimed to have non-desi husband or boyfriend whereas most of us men have been with non-desi girls possibly many times in their lives without any reservations.
Just a hypothesis!!!

...btw, why do desi chicks (at least in the US) have grand expectations of men, but have very little to offer in return?...even average looking desi girls walk around with enough attitude to make the bit$hy naomi campbell squirm... :))

Could someone please set me straight:

I am really concerned about the fate of those women who are NOT picture-perfect, young, educated, intelligent, pretty, feminist, political and human rights activists, educationists and a social workers``. And also of those who are NOT ``very affectionate and caring women``; NEITHER they are PhD in Sociology from the University of California, USA``. And also those who do not ``love fine and performing arts, classical and semi-classical music``. What about the women who are not ``associated with non-government organizations (NGOs) and women’s help groups`` and NEITHER who have ever ``acted in plays and performed as a classical and folk dance``. I want to know the fate of those women also who CANNOT ``With their attractive personality and engaging communication skills become the center of any social, artistic, political or private gathering.``

Is writer suggesting that such women deserve us, the men. God! what have we done to deserve this. baaaaah!!!!

[Men are pests......but sometimes a girl can get lucky ]
Pests get lucky more often.....:))
[let me get this straight......it took you all that research, all those interviews........alll these words to figure this stuff out?]
No scouty dear! Author is researching within his own tribe, the Ghaznavis, Ghauris, Lodhis, Kirmani, Hamdani etc etc., others like Fouzia and Salma are not worthy of mentioning their last names.
anNy: Ghazni, Afghanistan is the place where pests preferably get lucky with other pests. That will keep you safe from pests....maja ma cho?...:)

What exactly is the point here?? If some woman does not want to get married, well, who`s forcing her?

In any case, one of the women interviewed is married, and the other is engaged, so what`s the big deal???

{Young, educated, intelligent, pretty, feminist, political and human rights activist, educationist and a social worker. She has been associated with non-government organizations (NGOs) }

...so if a woman isn`t all this, she`s suppressed or a victim of society?...is it *IN* to be all these things these days?...why not just let each woman choose what she wants?...maybe some women want this, maybe some want to join men and be greedy capitalists in business, or maybe some just want to be housewives and raise kids...
