gatherin of all interviews and data is quite good but as concept what a baloney!
why we always think, an upper middle class single bossy working woman which has a successful career in some 9 to 5 office job is more successful and happy in comparison to a reasonable educated married woman with job timings of 24 hours 7 days a week in home to take care of her husband and kids......her whole success and happiness revolve to her family and she feels her pride being a good mother and wife rather then CEO of some multinational Co.
As she dont move around in elite of the city like these single and divorced social workers and art lovers to show her sucess, it dosnt mean she is living as looser. Her suscess can easily be seen in the eyes of her children.
I also know one very sucessful married woman, named Marina Khan, sucessful TV actress and director, happily married for last 12 years but have no kids....reason,,,,,,both husband and wife are so much busy with the work that no time of children, having kids mean she has to give up her sucessful career for taking care of them, however in her busy schedule she do find time to take care of in all 22 dogs and cats which she have as pets...........and as per society this is a sucessful woman. If these upper middle class ladies think this is the sucess which men dont want to see in a woman then i m with those men.

(Even those men married to professionally successful women are not prepared to share household work or parenting responsibilities. Insecurity leads the men to be jealous and possessive of the wives.” Sheema emphasizes that Women want a free, happy marriage rather than a bonded type!)
I bet that the woman who is quoted in this article is unmarried or divorced not necessarily because her husband is an offender. It is more likely that she has a big ego or she is extremely arrogant. Some of such women like to keep male friends on the side for emotional and sometimes extra-curricular sexual pleasures. In real world, no sincere husband and no sincere wife will ever allow his/her spouse to have close friendships with opposite gender in any society not unless a couple has any mutual understanding on keeping multiple partners.

Nafees,
What a great article. You should realise that polygamy and jihad are two distinguishing aspects of islam in pakistan and they are closely linked. Youg men have to be turned to jihadists and martyred to support the polygamy. Now you are telling that pak women are not getting married, this is terrible, another young paki male has to made a shaheed.
See even women can support jihad. Pathetic.

A bigger piece of condescending pop-psychology influenced crapola I have not seen on Chowk for a long time. Congrats to the author on elevating vague impressions and half-baked opinions into philosophy. As long as there are scholars like you around, there is hope for us yet!

sameeroo...
[I can easily respond angrily by suggesting for Mehmooda Ghaznavi and Shahaba Ghauri to try their luck in Ghazni and Ghaur since Pakistani men are no good. ]
---but you won`t will you...because that is not true of all Pakistani men...and this is just the point of view of a few...:)

[Fouzia is now happily married but not to a Pakistani.]
Postscript was unnecessary, turning author`s good case into anger. A person like Fouzia would have been or remained married happily only; unhappy marriage was out of question.
It is very easy in writing to be angry and adding ``not to a Pakistani`` for one reason only. I can easily respond angrily by suggesting for Mehmooda Ghaznavi and Shahaba Ghauri to try their luck in Ghazni and Ghaur since Pakistani men are no good.

A great article! Women with education will become stronger, more assertive, and more ready to live life on their own terms. Somebody once said to me that when women in our part of the world became educated in droves, our whole society will change for the better bringing about the collapse of the old values that hold women hostage, along with it heralding a new age of a healthier society.
