hamdim2: Yes! we know lot more about Islam than others - generally more literate and better educated then Muslims in every other field - creating an onsession with 7th century Arabian tribal culture and leading to incompatability with progress and modern world.
Yesterday, I challenged to back Jihad with examples from Badr to today or few examples in subcontinent history. Thus far not a single example.
When it comes to defending life and livelihood, even animals do instinctively and non-Muslims are no coward to defend their lives. Then what is the point of reading, learning and re-reinterpretation of a useless, tribal and outdated concept? All we hear is blaming this, blaming that for not understanding the essence of this and that.
If burning boats (transportation) like Tariq Bin Zayad is held in high esteem, burning planes (modern transportation) and slamming them into WTC is one unavoidable outcome. I suppose burning boats was Jihad and burning aeroplanes........
Not knowing, not teaching and not following during formative years is much better than doing it. Even as adults, except for people interested in history, no point in learning secrets of snake oil.

You are so right. Just like you guys elected bin Laden as your cultural and national representative, just so we have elected jay as ours.

hamidm2 (24),
Granted that the Muslim learns at an early age about the heroic past and the atrocities of a bygone era glorified, that today`s Muslim is clinging to a past that is irrelevant in the age of the internet, that he feels spiritually satisfied standing in the firing line five times a day, uttering words he knows not if he`s not fluent in Arabic, that he feels the means of violence would justify the end, that he feels his way is the best, that he feels an open, questioning, and a tolerant society is anathema to Islam.
And what is ``your`` solution? Attack mercilessly in the most ignorant and offensive way to reform it! Hats off to your logic!!! And if you stop to think for a moment, you`d discover that you yourself are not any different than very those who you abhor and condemn, such as Ghazni; the only difference is that he used swords and you use words, but the main idea is the same: ignorance rules. But Ghazni can be forgiven for he was a soldier who lived in the dark age of ignorance. What`s your excuse?

Is godot #40 is a new name for the hydra?! It`s the same thinking only worded better. The weed didn`t have this name when I knew him six months ago.
This is the Islamist trick to keep societies in bondage. Attack those who attack ignorance if that ignorance is Islamic. Argue that swords are equal to words and words are equal to swords so long as swords are used against others. Claim that science is religion, religion is science so long as that religion is Islam. Glorify a criminal past as heroic past so long as that past is Islamic. Claim reformers are Ghaznis and Ghaznis are reformers. Grant everything and then teach everyone the same lies if those lies are Islamic. Then whine why the world doesnt care for them.

POT POURRI FROM PARADISE
Rediff.
[We recommended inclusion of the prohibition of slaughter of cow and its progeny in fundamental rights. We have also argued that a Rapid Cow Protection Force on the lines of other paramilitary forces be instituted, which can operate on an all India basis for prevention of cow slaughter,`` Gumman Mal Lodha, who chaired the commission, told rediff.com The commission`s report said those who slaughter cows or smuggle them to Bangladesh, Kerala and illegal slaughterhouses should be booked under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. The holy cow is not just of religious value; it also has economic importance in India. It is the backbone of the Indian economy. Apart from milk products, the urine of the cow is of great medicinal importance,`` said Giriraj Kishore, international vice-president of the VHP.]

[NEW DELHI NOV. 7. The doctor who alleged that the ``encounter`` at the Ansal Plaza basement here on Sunday evening — in which two terrorists were killed — was orchestrated has gone into hiding despite having been assured immediate protection by police at the instance of the National Human Rights Commission.]
[AHMEDABAD NOV. 7. Eight persons were injured in police firing and stone-throwing in a fresh outbreak of communal violence in Gomtipur and Dani Limda localities in old Ahmedabad today. (A latenight PTI report said 15 persons were injured in the incidents).Traditionally, the Jamalpur seat has been claimed by Muslims, either nominated by the Congress or as independents, and BJP sources said the party believed that the Dalits voted for Muslim candidates out of fear as they were surrounded by the minorities on all sides. The BJP believes that it is possible to win over the Dalits if they are made to overcome their fear of the minorities. The BJP is believed to be toying with the idea of nominating a Vishwa Hindu Parishad activist for the Jamalpur seat to polarise voting on communal lines.]

[Thus we believe that violence not just on minorities, but on Dalits and women is also communal in nature.`` But, on the ground, what is the Dalit position on the violence in Gujarat? Are Dalits for the temple in Ayodhya? Are Dalits part of the Hindu Samaj? The answers come in matter of fact, but passionate, statements by Dalit women leaders:
``When we were incited to burn the Muslim basties, we were told to act as Hindus. Later, it was publicised by the same people that it was the Dalits who did it. The ambivalence is on the part of the Hindus, not Dalits. We know perfectly well that we do not belong to Hindu dharam.]

Mr.Abrar Akbar`s article-Jihad-A mis- perception-a good over view of factual happenings but why be apologetic. It is not mis-perception.It is down right miscoception.Face it.All religions, more or less, are misconceieved.Particularly monotheists religions-Judaism-Christianity and Islam have inherent contents to shed blood. It is good fortune that certain intellectuals in15th century could generate the revolution -The Reformation. The christianity was cosequently and gradually assigned to Churches and homes. It was no more relevent to society as a whole. The net consequence is the proliferation of secular states. Therefore,no holding of brief for Islam and no need to teach new meaning of Jihad that it is good if it is against poverty- illetracy etc etc.The very concept is down right not desirable in the 21st century. The only solution for muslim world(states)is that people should go for secularism and get rid of Islamic tyrants and let the individual beliefs be with onself.Anybody preaching killing should be cognizable offence and finally, muslim majority states should become democratic.Refining or redefining religion -changing concepts-will not produce any results-the goals you envision will remain unattainable.Muslims will continue to live in 14th century and will continue get beatings from all and sundry.I may be excused if my comments hurts the sensibilities of anybody.
