Do fish swim?
Do birds fly?
Does Mexico support the US?
Does El Norte rule?

shankar #10 I thought the writer was in Mexico (waiting to swim the River Rio Grande to leave sunny Mexico with his US-hating Mexican neighbors to get a better life. Perha-a-a-a-aps??)
This is MY point: People say many things. Their actions speak louder though. And millions of Mexicans (not to mention others) belie with their actions their hatred for the US.
AND I dont buy the standard response of the US-haters when confronted with such uncomfortable facts: their response is that it is only US POLICIES that they hate and not the US. That the US people are very nice, only very ignorant of the rest of the world. Bullsh!t.
The fact is that people hate the US because it is what their countries are not - a place where every individual (citizen or not, legal alien or illegal) is given a level of respect that is in contrast to class-ridden societies like Mexico and Pakistan (I understand from Jay that India is perfect in every respect and so wont comment). And people hate the US because the people who made the US great is what these people are not - enterprising, innovative, hardworking.
Think about this next time you hear some desi sitting in New York or someplace saying how the US is to blame for the actions of these half-brained, cold-blooded terrorists.

Mr Yousuf,
Your point is?...Pakistan Govt FULLY supports the US/Bush foreign policy/doctrine! Who cares what the ``man-on-the-street`` Pakistani thinks? ...or the ``man-on-the-street`` citizen of any country thinks?
Lets take Pakistan`s example...Mushy`s views are the only REAL views that matter in Pakistan...what part of THAT statement do people have a hard time understanding? Its ``strategy of dealing with the US``...a concept that EVERY Pakistani military dictator is famous for (ultimately bungling up)!
Every Pakistani dictator, historically, has strongly backed America`s interests (hence the most ``allied`` of all allies). In return, the US has strongly feted the Pakistani dictator, showered him with praises to make him feel important, given him the legitimacy that he desparately craves, let him make speeches to ``think tanks`` & Universities in the US &, above all given him MONEY to ``improve`` the economy...so that Pakistani citizens wont be too fed up with his rule & take to the streets in revolution..
Whats good for Mushy is GOOD for Pakistan!..what part of THAT statement do people have a hard time understanding?:)
Aw...heck...maybe I`m just rambling cos this article went whoosh...above my head!

An interesting topic, but nothing new. Don`t see a point to reiterating a news article, try some objective thinking next time.

khamkhwa:
...after the author`s intro...am inclined to believe that the second page was to be written by the new AIsoftware programme he is developing...
...can hazard two more guesses
(1) the AI programme mulled over the first page and did not consider it worthwhile to continue
or (2)...it did not understand the implications of thoughts entered in its innards
...and one more guess...chowk published this in the hope to stimulate a debate over:
---the twisted media reporting of polls and events with a spin favouring hawks in the establishment
---mexico is another third world country...meaning there is something in the collective psyche of third world countries…almost a programming flaw as it were…that everyone belonging to it instinctively loves to hate American domination…
and this is thoughtful […Once again, like all other developing nations, the democratons (people who make up and support democracy) have little control over the workings of democrats…]
are democratons a new species or a sub-species of democrats
rgds,

``News items on television start with something like “the [Afghan based] Taliban spokesman said in Islamabad that …” giving the impression that Islamabad is somewhere in Afghanistan.``
Errr....isn`t it?
What`s your, as someone correctly pointed out, point, senor??
