I certainly don`t give a toss, but due to the size of the industry, I`d hazard a guess that obviously millions of people do.

...they are misguided and need better forms of entertainment...millions of fat people love to eat, even though they should stop eating and exercise...same idea....

I think gupshup about people in our own circles is definitely much more entertaining than Bollywood gupshup.

I guess that CHOWK is not exempt from this Bollywood kind of
exposure, painful as it is to accept.

I think people are tiring of the Bollywood song and dance formula. As long as Bollywood catered to the escapist in us all and there was no alternative it was fine but now people in India can escape to other forms of entertainment like TV, cricket (now there`s another over-exposed formula) and the like. That is the problem with Bollywood and the sooner it wakes up to that fact, the better it is for it`s future.

Ansari, I second your opinion. I admit that I went and read up on Salman Khan`s incident and do once in a while indulge in this gupshup.
Thanks Anil Saari, for an update on what`s happening in fantasy land, where the hero always beats up the bad guys and gets the beautiful girl in the end....it makes it easier to sleep on some days ;) just kidding.

Why is it that so many of the new actors and actresses are relatives of previous actors and actresses, directors, writers etc.? Seems like a lot of nepotism. One would think that there is other acting talent in India, outside the children of Amitabh, Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna, Jateendra, Dharmendra, Kapoors. I believe even Salman Khan, Amir Khan were launched by relatives in the industry.
The only ones that seem like self-made performers (though I don`t know the details) are Shah Rukh, Madhuri, Ashwariya, and a few others. And they are probably the best performers amongst the lot. It must be very difficult to make it in the industry if one is not related to someone, and it seems very easy to get a few movies if one is related to someone.

apparently Madhuri Dixit`s brother is a scholar of the German language. . .and Aishwarya Rai is a civil engineer, or an architect (I forget). . .remarkable isn`t it. . .
#12 Posted by Teunkens on November 16, 2002 11:48:14 pm
Ansari: Aishwarya is neither. She was on her way to become an architect, but couldnt complete the course. She got into modelling, and I dont think anybody is complaining.
This has been a particularly bad year for Bollywood, one of the worst I think, but December seems promising.

Ansari there are lots of exciting movies lined up for December. The Eid weekend itself (December 6) there are three big movies releasing. First is the long delayed movie Kaante, then Sunny Deol and Sunil Shetty starrer Karz, and Akshay-Kareen starrer Talash. And then the rest of the month there are lots of other movies releasing as well like Saathiya and Makdee. But I am really looking forward to Saathiya, directed by Shaad Ali. He is Mussafar Ali`s son and had assisted Mani Ratnam in Dil Se. Saathiya has great music as well (by AR Rehman) and I think the best Adnan Sami song till date in Hindi movies, Aye Udi Udi.

Isn`t Saathiya a remake of one of Ratnam`s films? I forget which one. . .Alai Payuthe maybe. . .
