Music doesn`t require faux or misplaced attitude from the Musicians.

Look, if Pakistanis want a bit more spice in their music, more power to them. Go for it. This ``underground``/non-mainstream music is often more meaningful and varied than it`s pop equivalent...it`s a function of talent and originality rather than cookie-cutter marketing.

But, coming from the elite’s of Pakistani society, this punkish ``Question Authority``, and ``down with corporations`` schtick doesn`t seem credible. If you`re sincere, then sorry, many in the west who`ve already heard this stuff are going to ask you to prove it. Proove that this isn`t just another gimmick. Otherwise, find your own message. In either case, can the attitude and focus on your talent.

Further, if you want to ``question`` authority (whatever/whomever) that is, then you better damn well be ready to answer a few questions yourselves. Retorting with ``who are you to question us`` is pretty pathetic.

In response to black(wannabe?)entity, in post #11:

``If you have not come out of your well of ghazals and qawalis and crap...````

Crap?!?!? LOL...you have a long way to go...obviously you`re not a lover of good music (how ironic...)...

Ghalib: You are breathtakingly stupid. This is beyond pseudointellectualism...

What the hell does this article have to do with how Kids are raised in the west? Or how desi kids get into concerts. Here u are waving the banner of Islam and foolishly judging the morality of millions of kids.

Has chowk possibly gotten stupider?

[(The choice of this nick somehow gives the eerie feeling that the article is a plant. Or that you really have a low-opinion of yourself. I will, nevertheless, take it at face-value ;)

and hamidm2/DRUMS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The point has been entirely missed or not retained by the uncles who are not constipated---- they have diarreah!

Again, in summary:

Question Authority---but at your own expense and on your own time.
This is what those who are/were not slaves & those never enslaved mentally ( the blacks) do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Truly free kids go to whatever concerts & form whatever bands by earning their expenses. Children of Indi-Pakis do such things under the uncles` authorised funds. Truly `free` ones are those whose uncles are not aware what their children listen or do. It is none of their damn business---here in the You-nighted shtstates.

In the `free` US the teenager IS the authority and no uncle & auntie with a leaky bottom dare question THAT! They will get a run for their money.

The Indi-Pakis,ONTH, are in a stampede to be enrolled as slaves and spend bigbucks to be branded with a red-hot iron on their bums, butts, and beavers. No wonder chilli peppers hurt.

There you have PIR pressure, here you have PEER pressure. It depends which authority you want to question. Are you really free to do that?

Trying to pretend that you are somehow a western kind is no more a sign of advancement. Only low-class people do that. Just ask the proud & defiant muslim girls & boys ( born & bred in US) who have spawned a revolution around the world. They walk the walk & talk the talk as a muslim.

You CAN question authority---but never on borrowed authority. You have always had US-Aids.
You are a beggar nation.

First of all... this goes to all you Muslim Fanatic Wanna be`s and all the peope who have this HUGE misconception about any one from a Muslim country not making it big in the rock scene... WAKE THE HELL UP!

Who gave you the right to judge as to what other people dream about? And for your kind information... If you have not come out of your well of ghazals and qawalis and crap... let me tell you that Rock in Pakistan is THE most happening scene at the moment. This is the new world... this is the new voice... and you can either ride this wave... or just drown in it for all we care! This is the voice of the new generation and believe you me.. its gonna be all over the world before you know it. Comparing it to TLC or Madonna or Mariah Carrey is crap... Total Crap. This ain`t pop... this aint your lullaby.. this is a message.. its a tidal wave and its what is gonna prevail whether you all like it or not! As EP said:

UNDERGROUND! What you folks have labelled me
Im the voice of change that will set you free!

I dont think you need the translation for that do you!!!!!!!!

And hey Saba... awesome thing man... you sure do know what you are talking about... dont pay any attention to these air heads... they are just either too old or plain dumb to understand what da hype is all about. Keep up the good work... In time... we will prevail!!!!!

fauzan sohail

Personally i am very very glad that these bands are popping up in pakistan amidst the whole fundoo confusion. Yet i dont think it can be attributed to a mere standing-up-to-the-professor and breaking-norm s phenomena. Thats too idealistic. Whatever the cause im just thankful theyre thriving - hope to see more of them!

.......... i was listening to a cd my daughter had burned and was delighted to find that in addition to the strokes, dashboard confessional, sum 41, nirvana and the vines there was bob dylan, fleetwood mac and, yes, junoon ............. kids know their music .............don`t listen to old foggies like uncle ghulab jamun who thinks red hot chilli peppers give you heartburn .............

welll
first of all..who are u ppl to judge whether i am a morally corrupt westernised person?my article highlights PAKISTANI music in case you just understood the fact that i was a teenager(supposedly with no brains/morals/and loads of big bucks)and decided to classify me with all the dopeheads out there.
There is a lot of good Pakistani music out there, and a lot of them ahve made it big professionally..for ex; Vital Signs` Dil dil Pakistan was voted the 3rd best song in the WORLD. And thats just pop...do you people know how much Pakistani Rock is being appreciated abroad?People from as far away as Lebanon are appreciating Entity Paradigm`s music even tough they can`t understand the lyrics.

Which girls did you see on the website posing as TRL groupies? To my recollection, they are none. And even if there were, maybe they were just having a good time, but of course our society is so close minded they dont approve of girls going to concerts/rocking...or any forms of enjoyment. But that is another argument alltogether and this discussion is not up for grabs here.

I have no intention of pleasing my teachers; i cant be like one of those typical students who buter up their teachers. I would rather speak the truth.

And as for social work goes, again, who are you to know? I could be a full time volunteer at an NGO/orphanage?I could be an orphan myself. I could be anything or anyone but the point I have tried to highlight here is authority, how students defy authority and how music, especially PAKISTANI music, has helped us find an outlet to release the frustrations residing inside us and decaying us till we become typical ``Yes,Sir/Ma`am`` products of the corporate world.

This is exactly what happens to all the low class ( meaning moneyed, westernised, positioned, and intellecually-bankrupt) ones in Pakistan. Obviously your corrupt westernised parents are paying for all this so you find time for such nonsense.

Work with MAULANA Abdul Sattar Edhi for achange or earn your living through tutoring less-fortunate kids.

No wonder Muslims like you have turned Pakistan into a brothel of uniformed pimps and uninformed englo-educated ones.

You and your kind are suffering from US-Aids.
