War is, and never can be the answer.

War is not an idle game to be played by odepedial children seeking glory. War is an illness that kills. War is a diease, which causes suffering, humiliation, deprivations and finally the destruction of all that was once considered decent and noble. War destroys in a blink of an eye, what took generations to create, nourish and hold dear. Wars are a reflection of the narissism, which exists within humans, because in its execution; its image, we see our own face. War is the altar, where we worship. War is ingrained in our pysche, because it rationalizes our infantile urge to dominate, but in more deeper sense, war is the reward we have set aside for ourselves - a flawed sense self respect and by extension, the justification of nationalism and imperialism, which gives the state its sense of self respect and self worth in the interational community.

War is a peculiar human endeavor, which we undertake in order to secure and balm our own insecurities. War vindicates our self esteem. War flatters our own sense of egoism and ultimately, war offers us the fantasy of immortality; of power over life and death. War is the only recourse available to us, which offers the final validation of our self worth by indulging us in our own mythical world of a ``God complex``. It is the most sublime of Odepedial fantasies, which we cherish and we rail against its opponents, because they deny us our own dreams; dreams of invincibility.

I rage against war, because it rages against me. I can convince myself and in the past I have, to support wars fought for myriad reasons. Does that me a hypocrite in speaking out against this war? Yes, it does. I supported past wars, because I honestly thought that the evil they caused was less than the evil they prevented. I do not think so with this war. The evil it will cause will easily outweigh any evil it could have prevented. I can not stop this war from happening. I can not stop those, who are committed and desperate to commit sucide by waging this war. I can not convince them of the sheer horror of this war, especially since they do not want to listen to any sane advice and like a child pampered, are petulent in having their own desires fulfilled regardless of the costs ot the others.

This is a selfish war for selfish reasons waged by selfish people.

the Bush administration takes today. A US attack on Iraq will
inevitably:

- Be used as an excuse to erode civil liberties
- Divert resources from education and social services

US Government:
- End the drive for military action and sanctions that target the people
of Iraq
- Fund education to ensure that everyone in the US has access to higher

- Re-allocate military funds to eliminating poverty and building peace

Campus Administrators:
- Declare opposition to the war
- Disclose and eliminate military research contracts
- Freeze or lower tuition and fees
- Transfer money for JROTC to college preparation and counseling and
from and ROTC to financial aid

The Bush Administration`s war on Iraq is a venture for control of the
region and its oil supplies, not national security, democracy, or human
rights. Our campuses provide implicit support for this through military
research, recruiting, and ROTC programs. As students who value freedom,
democracy, and our education we say: THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE! The best
way to improve our national security is to halt drives for illegal and
immoral wars and redirect public funds from the military and arms trade
to education and social services at home and humanitarian aid abroad.

It reflects very badly on your website that a bigot like ``Ghalib Zaman`` can publish on Chowk considering the unremitting hatefulness of his posts. I am curious that this interactor`s post actually pass the Chowk guidelines and secondly that given his history of writing posts that most decent people would be embarrassed to to claim authorship of, his behavior is validated by the acceptance of his submissions.

It seems that Chowkies who are tired of ``Ghalib Zaman`s`` tenor of input should be able to

1. Flame any submission that this person submits in the manner that he responds to Chowk writers

2. Boycott any submission that Mr. Gulab Jamin posts-although as his behaiya quality drowns out any modicum of shararath, it would have little effect on his behavior with other writers.

3. Ask Chowk staff to deal with this interactor accordingly.

But then the general lawlessness (starting from the top) took over, and today accidents are caused not just by invisible bicycles without lights, but by cars without headlights, invisible bullock carts on roads at night. Generals with cars flashing their two or three stars consider it a perk to drive through a red light. And these are just the mildest examples of lawlessness by those in power. And compared to Saddam`s murderous ways, our general musharaff seems almost law-abiding.
I think those people (westerners as well as new immigrants from pakistan) sitting comfortably in the west, railing against the US for leaning on Saddam, need to read your post a few times. Or better yet, go live in baghdad for an year and spend some time with the victims of Saddam`s misrule. They might not feel so self-righteous after that.

Does a dark skin deny an individual the right to be in a position of power, or to hold conservative views? These two individuals have a distinguished record of public service behind them, and one that we pakistanis can only wish our public officials (including the super-sophisticated bureaucrats of islamabad who consider it fashionable to berate the US government even as they are busy completing visa applications for themselves and their children) some day be able to attain.
