It is interesting to note that - as far as the debate on Kashmir is concerend, most paki interactors in chowk appear to have stepped back from firing line. I also notice a constant stream of articles in paki media which are very critical of pak`s kashmir `policy`. There is increasing number of people who are shooting very hard questions at the holy-cow of Pakistani Ideology aka its stance on Kashmir. Unimaginable only a few years ago.
It appears that there is palpable realization, atleast among the sensible pakis, that the pakistan`s game in Kashmir is over, much like it`s game in Afganistan. The policy of ``thousand cuts`` has boomeranged, quite literally and with premium, because the ``cuts``, a million of them, are now being inflicted on pakistan itself. They strongly feel the need for change, need to step back from the monumental folly. It is a very small start, but a start nonetheless, for better.
But there are always a bunch of unfortunate souls ( Ahmadzai, HisExcellency etc... ) who will never get it. Fed with delusions for years on end, they can`t help but keep repeating same tired lies over and over again, further deluding only themselves.

Thanks for all you 3 monkey dish out day and night to Pakistanis. So we are really tired your profuond wisdom and knowledge, please let indian take benifits of you three nasty men.
Now my thoughts about article.
Stop attosries ok I am support of it. But people are Kachhada they feel you get by shouting. Its wrong.I say put up or shut up. We pakistanies are for having kashnir ,problem is are we ready to sacrifice then answer is know. See world is bad you get noting worth any thing by begging , may be few scraps left over. Indians did not cry to dissect pakistan but sent army and defeat our Fauj. This Mukti Bahani would have faught for 100 years ad still will be East Pakistan. What changed was introduction of Indian army by evil Brahmin Indira Gandhi, a Kashmiri Brahman.
We can get Kashmir if we send Fauj. We should be ready to foght and not request for talk. Talk is phoney. India will never hand over J and K. When this is going to enter thick heads of GHQ. DO NOT REQUEST FOR TALK SNATCH KASHIR. LET IT BE ATOMIC WAR, WE SHOULD no care as otherwise it will play in hands Hindus. Nuclear war is possible and winable.
Stop Kashmir day work hard put all money for FIGHT INDIA. Its has become farce and joke. Its just ritual. Time has come to raise about 1 million armed and schooled forces to face ibdia, IT WILL ARMY IN COMMAND OF 1MILLION FREEDOM FIGHTER. WE CAN easly raise army of 1 miillon then advance on indian terrotarires with pincer movements by our any kill all indian army. We need to get in to indian territory and challenge them. It pakistan ready to vipe out india army leading to Chaos. We have right as India broke Pakistan its now our chance to avenge los of east lakisran. We should be ready for nuclear war also as what is use of arms if we do not want to use. People can not achive glory unless they faufght in total war. Getting real sleepy bye

Dear Ahmadzai
``The problem is that India by its very philosophy can live with 450-500 million living under poverty line. It is acceptable, therefore, there would never be any protests. On the contrary, religious parties would not allow that to happen in Pakistan. Poverty would not be tolerated by people. ``
If you are discussing an issue with someone it helps to read the authentic reports and be in touch with the latest figures from credible sources. For instance, you might want to search some authentic data on the poverty rates in India and Pakistan before comming up with dubious figures like 450-500 million. I know it because the poverty rate in India last time I heard was around 26% that would give you the figure of around 260 million, roughly half of what you quoted. And poverty in Pakistan is not only being tolerated by the people but has shot up 30% mark in the last decade. As a reference, I am pasting the following para from the World Bank annual report.
http://www.worldbank.org/annualreport/2002/chap0504.htm
``Poverty in South Asia-and its measurement- is the focus of an energetic debate in the region (see box 5.3). Poverty has continued to decline from over 40 percent in the mid-1980s to current estimates of around 25 percent in India and slightly more than 30 percent in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan. However, there are indications, too, that poverty might have stagnated or even risen in Nepal and Pakistan over the past decade. Equally important in the fight against poverty are indicators of health and education, which continue to be low in South Asia, with women particularly disadvantaged.``
PS BTW guys, good going. After a loooong time there is some passionate exchange on chowk:-) I especially liked the Sholay part with Gabbar Singh, Basanti and Veeru :-)

Sleeping AI passenger gets unexpected round-trip
Agence France-Presse
New Delhi, March 8
An Indian woman who fell asleep on a flight to Doha unexpectedly finished her journey where she started from when no one woke her up at her destination, a media report said on Saturday.
Praseela, a 32-year-old villager flying for the first time to join her engineer husband who works in the Gulf, dozed off on the Air India flight late on Wednesday from the southern Indian city of Cochin.
She woke up only after the plane began its return flight from the Qatari capital on Thursday morning and she ended her maiden air trip where she had started.
Air India, embarrassed its staff had failed to make all passengers disembark, gave her a free ticket and she flew to Doha on Friday.
///This is an example of the crowning security lapse of the indian system. The world ever is worried about terrorism, security etc and here is an incopetant, lax and good for nothing airline security system that has no idea about the number of passengers it should be carrying. The woman could have been a bomb left to blow up at the next sector.
Well, an airline that recruits staff based on pretty face, may be didnt know how to count.

The popular myth of ``India poor, Pakistan relatively well-off`` needs some reality check. After furnishing data on poverty rates in India and Pakistan, let me come to the issue of the per capita incomes of both the countries. So I searched for the per capita incomes of both the countries. Here is the some latest data from CIA Factbook -
http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/in.html
India:
GDP - per capita:
purchasing power parity - $2,540 (2002 est.)
GDP - composition by sector:
agriculture: 25%
industry: 25%
services: 50% (2002 est.)
Population below poverty line:
25% (2002 est.)
Pakistan:
GDP - per capita:
purchasing power parity - $2,100 (2001 est.)
GDP - composition by sector:
agriculture: 26%
industry: 24%
services: 50% (2001 est.)
Population below poverty line:
35% (2001 est.)
The nominal per capita incomes for both the countries is around $450 if memory serves me right. However to be fair, let me mention that Pakistan had higher per capita than India between 1950- 1990. The situation changed due to economic stagnation in Pakistan during 90s when India saw a boom consistently posting GDP growth rates of around 6%. Only very recently had Indian per capita surpassed that of Pakistan.

``Btw, your anger filled posts are also an indication that your sweared enemy Pakistan must be doing very well economically and in terms of appreciation we keep receiving from the USA. Frustration shows not only in your posts, but also in your leaders` attitude e.g. tearing of script by Vajpayee at NAM. Seems like Pakistanis are playing with you ;) ``
///Above is from a post by ahmedzai. Vajpayee was in politics may be before the birth of mushy. A military man trying to pretend to be a politician has to be spoon fed, even then puts foot in his mouth. Mushy was the first to say that he did not intend to raise tension at NAM, he was rebuked by mahatir for raising bilateral issues. Remeber, mushy said that if india had moved into pakistan, it would have been an unconventional war, meaning bomb, which he later clarified as jihadic war using human wave attackes.
Now the world knows that the great achievent of mushy is kargill invasion where an integrated jihadic military operation has been perfected. Mushy is right, the only way to burn up the acumulated jihadic fodder in pakistan is a human wave attack to clear the mines.
Well about the uS praise for pakistan, one has to expect that, pakistan is effectively a US colony with out invasion, which the poor yanks are trying to do in iraq. Pak cbinet minister says that sheikh will not be handed over to the yanks, the next day he is in US air base on way to qunatanamo bay. May be it is time that you all talk of pakistan as a sovereign nation, and that is why India is not talking to pakistan, talk to the masters, the yanks.

Bbabu, arjun_m and harish_hyd:
I only said that since poverty is a serious issue in Pakistan, its reduction was included in the 4 point strategic mission.
We can debate why poverty increased in Pakistan in other interactive boards.
While I am all apreciation of Indian economic performance, you guys also need to read the World Bank report on Pakistan. It clearly states that Pakistan has turned around a deteriortating macro situation of a few years ago to a rapidly improving one. While the report mentions that investment climate is still depressed in Pakistan due to high costs, it goes on to praise Pakistan on all the other counts. Please read the report.

However, since your are our virtual guests on this website, you are most welcome to use any kind of language here. Being a Pakistani, I will not repond in kind, at least not on this count :-)

[In my opinion, 40% of Kashmiris will opt for independance, 45% will opt for Pakistan and 15% for staying in India.]
a) We don`t care about your opinion.
b) We don`t care about Kashmiris` opinion.
c) We don`t care about world opinion.
Sadly, that still makes us the world`s largest democracy.
Now go pop an artery.

``And no, Pakistan is not fueling the conflict``
Tomorrow`s New York Times Magazine, an article about a Jordanian in JORDAN, nothing to do with India and Pakistan. This Jordanian is deciding whether to join Mircrosoft or go for armed jihad:
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/09/magazine/09ENCOUNTER.html?pagewanted=2
``O. and Fadi say they talk a lot about which jihad would be best.
``We have a few jihads we can do: Palestine, Chechnya, Kashmir or Iraq,`` O says. ``Palestine is too difficult. You can`t get across the border. Chechnya, they already have enough people. Kashmir is easiest.``
``Yes,`` Fadi says. ``You fly to Pakistan, and someone will help you to Kashmir.`` But the best jihad, they both agree, is Iraq, which means a jihad against the American troops they expect will soon invade Iraq. ``If I see an American soldier in Jordan on his way to Iraq, I`ll kill him,`` O. says. ..``

[The problem is that India by its very philosophy can live with 450-500 million living under poverty line.]
Is delusion a national disease in Pakistan? The problem with you guys is that everyone thinks he is an expert on everything under the sun. Did you ever pause to think why Pakistan was the only country in South Asia whose per-capita income fell in the last 5 years? That even tiny Bhutan did better than you bunch of losers?
[On the contrary, religious parties would not allow that to happen in Pakistan. Poverty would not be tolerated by people. Hence, even few suicides raise political storms.]
Oh yeah, your religious parties would never allow suicide. They’d instead push guys intent on committing suicide into either Kashmir or Afghanistan where they can die as fidayeen and enjoy afterlife in the company of those 72 houris (I can see you licking your lips). Funny how those cigarettes are taking you to new planes. Share man.
