Other than the quest for perfection, , Us Ke Halaq mai dard hai! The guy is vomiting every day. Acha beta bhee loser hai, instead of bringing Strepsils or some kind of nice minty Davaiee for his dad, he is watching ACTION movie down stairs!

Aur Beti:
``In fact, she also has an apartment, an expensive car and plans to study Persian in Iran (my wife told her to study Urdu in Pakistan, but she refused). ``

What a bitch!

Ending mai bivi keh rahee hai, ``Dont make a mess!!!`` Us Ka Shauhar apnee Jaan Le raha hai and she is worried about the bed sheets!! Acha instead of saying something deep Banday ke aakhree alfaaz ye hain,

``I have already cleaned the bathroom!``

This guy should pull the trigger.

Haroon,

Fascinating stuff. A man hell bent on `conquests` rather than comfort. Perhaps it`s the journey he`s addicted to.

And he seeks life but when calamity hits him, he wishes to end it...the talk of a faithless?

Umer M.

#cmp99, clam down, calm down. i feel as if you are the one who wants to be perfect. not us , a lot of people dont care about being perfect. because what is perfection anyway??? it has a different meaning for everyone. what i find perfect may not seem that perfect to you or anyone else for that matter.

Haroon,

This is quite interesting, only, its a bit too easy given the potential depth of the narrator`s voice as Slink pointed out. You could spend a great deal more time sorting out the cacophony as the Great Masters and Mistresses have to powerful effect. The question your character is asking is a universal one-one that I would argue each person asks her or himself no matter what her/his life has entailed...there is an absence of that kind of universality or understanding and too much self absorption on the rendering of the character to pull this off.

Lets say that you want to portray the character as sympathetic-those are your intentions...my argument would be that from that point on you have lost the story. The character will never surprise you, come to cocnclusions that are contrary, will not receive any revelations authentic enough to make this work, regardless of the wife`s role.

If the wife is meant to be complicit in the aggravating the narrator`s illness as are the daughter and son...I dont know...it seems to veer off into melodrama...what do you make of it? If the narrator is being melodramatic, surely it can be written with some satirical effect...

The whole perfection isn`t what its cracked up to be esp. in the US is a bit banal....and while I sympathetize with the narrator feeling he is completely lost in terms of his function of patriarchy, I `d like to see some more interrogation on that end...have you seen any Kurosawa? He`s got that ability to transcend using images, ideas, situations...if this character is as deep as one might preceive, you`ve got to have him show it in terms of his making meanings, asking questions, etc. In this case, I`d tend to agree with Khan Sahib-why is this narrator capitulating so easily? Unless he`s got something against going outside of himself to help others to help himself?

Hmmmm....now There`s a revelation....

Are we stupid to be thinking about getting more out of life than we really
think we deserve, or is this just something we hope we really can achieve. Do we really need so much to satisfy ourselves ... why? Why this need for gratification, instant gratification.

The perfect friends, the perfect wife, the perfect marriage, the perfect
parents, the perfect children, the perfect medical insurance plan ......
whats up with so much perfection in life. Who needs so much perfection ... and why?

Maybe its not the thought that counts, its all of us aspiring to be supreme
arseholes for the rest of our lives. Trying to live out our lives according
to what we define as right. Society dictates the rules, we bend them a
little to suit our needs and then expect all others to follow us into Holy
Bliss. Nirvana is not what we hope to attain, we just need a scapegoat. We just need to trust. We need to need. We need to let go and hang on.

Haroon

Give all your wordly possessions to the charity.

Open a free school for the poor.

You will get up from the bed, feel much better and have a purpose in life.

Your son and daughter will begin to live like most of the rest of world and become more productive and useful citizens.

But your wife will not let you do it!

haroon,

i think this is very very good. in particular...

``Now how much of life can one take? First we want and hope only this to attain, but on its satisfaction, a thousand more desires rear their heads and speak onto us, driving us mad with their ever-increasing cacophony, till finally one can hear nothing but endless babble. Incomprehensible, but what thoughts it spurs, that we wish only to silence them, to rid ourselves of that first desire which betrayed us and led us to such an impasse. That is, the desire to live. Were it not for this empty dream, which I have seen after more than five decades to be in fact a nightmare.``

truth. occasionaly a writer in form stumbles onto a universal truth, a moment of emotional clarity. whether deliberate or not. so...wow...

do keep writing. this is a compelling voice, hopefully there will be more.

plus, when reading that, i didn`t see it as the voice of a selfish person but rather that of an honest person. in the end, though we claim to love others and might do all we are supposed to or think we should to please them, i sometimes wonder if indeed we do love them. are we all just pretending all the time? who hasn`t seen people we are related to or profess love for as some kind of bondage? if not always, them even sometimes. do those moments make us selfish?

Ehhhhhhh...

that`s some freaky twisted ending man.

who would`ve thought the wife would exemplify as much clinical efficiency as the main character.

success in america, it appears, leads to the same sort of person being created.
