What you seem to be saying is that no Pakistani leader will ever uphold any agreement. So then what is the purpose of India talking?
``
A) Indians need to vote BJP out of power. Vajpayee, Advani and their RSS compatriots are too old and ideologically fossilized for an honorable settlement of this dispute. They have no new ideas to offer on Kashmir. And they have a vested interest in perpetuating anti-Muslim hysteria``
You can cite many instances in domestic Indian politics to corroborate this `vested interest in perpetuating anti-Muslim hysteria`.
But not compromising with jihadis and the Pakistani Army doesnot qualify as `anti-Muslim` hysteria. If anything its in the remaining Indian Muslims interests too, for India not to have another partition on religious grounds.
Jihadis and the Pakistani Army need to get rid of the idea that they are the sole upholders of Islam on the subcontinent, as should ordinary Pakistani people. Their fervor for propagating their professed values abroad will be taken a lot more seriously if they proselytize and moralize less and show themselves practising what they preach at home more.

Surely, India would not be inclined to offer anything other than converting the legal status of the line of control (LoC) to international boundary. There is little chance for the international community led by the US to force the bigger power in the region to accept a solution of the issue on Pakistan’s terms. It is Pakistan that in all probability would be expected to alter its stance
++
True. And since Pakistanis will never unanimously alter their stance, any settlement on Kashmir will last only as long as peaceniks (or secular generals) are in power in Islamabad. The moment hardliners or jihadi generals gain control of the country, these agreements will not be worth the paper they are written on. Jihadis will blame peaceniks for a dishonorable peace treaty, and Indians will scream about betrayal.
Same story with different characters has repeated over the last 40 years.
At Tashkent, Ayub Khan and Shastri were peaceniks. Bhutto became the spoiler. Indira Gandhi, in the meanwhile, started working on Agartala Conspiracy with Mujib in less than 2 years to break Pakistan up. Under the thin facade of peace, hatred and Machiavellian tricks were looming large.
At Simla, Bhutto made peace to get the 93,000 POWs released. Bhutto was swallowing his pride simply to get back at India later. Machiavellian tactics and insincerity all over again..
At Lahore, Nawaz`s business interests were matched with Vajpayee`s half-hearted efforts to solve Kashmir (After all, he didn`t offer anything on Kashmir did he??). Nawaz and Musharraf had already resolved to sabotage Lahore Declaration before signing it.
At Agra, Advani`s hidden hand prevented Musharraf and Vajpayee from signing a joint declaration.
And now Vajpayee claims this will be his last attempt at peace. You can bet that he has already decided to take a hard line and ensure that all peace talks end up in deadlock. (Advani will try his best to do so anyway). Talks will be doomed anyway.. This is just an attempt to appear sincere, and avoid American pressure in future. Pakistan is also playing to the gallery for the same reason.
Peace requires two fundamental changes:
A) Indians need to vote BJP out of power. Vajpayee, Advani and their RSS compatriots are too old and ideologically fossilized for an honorable settlement of this dispute. They have no new ideas to offer on Kashmir. And they have a vested interest in perpetuating anti-Muslim hysteria.
B) Pakistanis need to vote Mullahs out of power and get Army back in the barracks (or atleast out of National Security Council). Mullahs can`t be friends with moderate Pakistanis even. And Army is stuck in its regimented thinking. Any news ideas are out of question there too.
None of these three parties (BJP, Mullahs, Jihadis) have a vested interest in honorable, durable peace.

hrrehman: Please kindly post your picture on chowk. And hope you will not disappoint - last time a chap talked about his fair and handsome self, someone pointed out that his picture resembled that of a confused owl. Hope you will do better.

arjun #39 you write ``why are pakis thought of as terrorists the world over ``
When people start believing as reality what they would LIKE to see as reality, that is the time they need to stop daydreaming before they go over the edge. Look at poor Jay, for example who wanders around in the asylum fearful of jihadis under his bed.
Dont catch JARs (this is like SARs, but it is found in India not China, and stands for JAy Reduxitis) from Jay.

Nasah:
`` to Forget Muslim Kashmir -- the way it forgot 140 million Impure Indian Mulsims -- and I million Impure `East` Pakistani Muslims. ``
Arrey, how can you be so illogical? Just as a grrom seeks a fair skinned bride, the Pakis want ``Fair Kashmiris`` and not dark skinned Bhaiyyas and Bengalis. :)
VERY FUNNY:))))

military competition with China will be painful for the average Indian. India spends $14 billion a year on its military, while half of its children are malnourished, and 350 million people go to bed hungry. One third of India`s one billion people are illiterate, and the country spends only 1.9 percent of its Gross Domestic Product on education, about half of what most East Asian countries spend.
Please take care of your country, I feel so sorry for poor Indians
I wish I could do something to erase hunger from India, and we Pakis are
getting 3 meals a day, how can we know what poor, malnutrition Indians are going through. I will open a Soup kitchen for all Indians and I invite all Pakistani brothers to help me erase hunger from India, they are our neighbors, we owe them.

This is the nth time an Indian is repeating this on Chowk, but it`s worth it..
1. India is not giving away Kashmir, no matter what
2. LOC = Border is the best Pakistan can ever hope for
3. We will fight for ever if we have to, we have fought for 14 years and it hasn`t affected our economy or our morale
4. Kashmiris that don`t want to stay in India can go to hell or Pakistan if they want. India is not violating it`s constitution for a couple million disgruntled Kashmiri Muslims
5. No Indians don`t believe the Pakistanis` moral support crap. Even the Pak govt now acknowledges ``infiltration from POK`` and terrorist training camps
6. From the Indian perspective the problem is Pakistani terrorism in Kashmir and we will do everything to try and end it including talks
7. The Indian army is going to stay in Kashmir as long as required
8. Pakistani suicide tendencies, ``we will nuke you`` don`t impress the Indians
9. The Paki wet dream of Kashmir is never coming true
