what can I say? The houbara bustard factor! NOT an endangered species, really ... especially in the satirical context it is used.
Although, satire is best when left to the imagination of the mind of reader, but what the hell!
Here it is trying to communicate 3 things, to put it mildly (and a straight face!). 1: It is exhibiting the ignorecnce of the local mullah brigade (by suggesting that since the bird`s name sounds like some `western` swear word they encounter during their long tableegh trips across the Rockys and around, say, Florida`s beaches, they come to believe that it MUST be the bird-like version of the haram mammal, swine! 2: It is satirizing the trivial issues our ``relegious guides`` and God`s self-appointed middle-men are always putting so much effort in (instead of the ``real issues``, such as poverty, unemployment, economic progress, education, etc.); and 3: The ignorence when combined with the amoral and cynical ways of corporate capitalism and its mass-media machine, becomes like a nuclear fission detonating the exhibitionistic and pro-mediocrity confusion-bomb engulfing subcontinental minds via all the Zee TVs and especially through Pakistan`s GEO TV which jumps from showing a autoerotic ``political talk programme``, to a LUX-sponsored fashion perade to a ultra-orthodox ``Islamic advice`` in a matter of two hours!! In the end, all we get is glorified, cynical pigs cliaming to be EADABLE houbara bustards (aka confused dimwits making a lot of noise [and money] but absolutely NO sense, dig?).
But thank you all for the replies.

For someone not a Punjabi or any kind of Pakistani, can you please explain what a houbara bustard is?Is it the Great Indian Bustard from the Rann of Kutch, which is on the endangered species list?(Yes,I know you probably have a problem with that name)!

wajahat:

Though I have alot of bad things to say about their last album `ishq`, as long as Salman Ahmed continues to play away those solos, I`ll never get tired of Junoon. Will check out the newwer bands.
:)

Noori is just awesome. The best thing to happen to new age Pakistani music since Strings `Duur`. Most bands (including Junoon) used lyrics that expressed feelings of isolation and separation of love or otherwise through `agrarian` lyrics- ie. charkhaz and neem trees, and deserts, and what not and focused on a sense of `past`. The lyrics of `Duur` were `present day` with feelings of isolation and separation expressed in urban terms. A much needed freshness that is. I hope they continue to work with such lyrics (courtesy anwar maqsood :) ).

i think strings are yet another band that have shown that artistic endeavors are not necsessarily hampered by corporate sponsors. thus providing another reason for the nfp`s of the world to shut up.

``maybe the whole clan got converted from . Which probably accounts for the jokers in my pack.``
Or they could be cousins 10 times removed from some Punjabis. One of your great great great grandmothers was evidently naughty but what luck for you.

Compared to Punjabis of a particular extraction(except of course for temporary lapses of judgement like your great great great grandmother), everyone else on the subcontinent is at a lower evolutionary level - dintcha know? :)

Re Stuka : ``the Brahminical Mind, while known for it`s orthodoxy, is not renowned for the ability to laugh at one`s self.``
umm what about us poor Brahmin-by-birth types? Strangely enough I can recall quite a few members of my family possessing a sense of humour...ah maybe the whole clan got converted from . Which probably accounts for the jokers in my pack.

Your points are Valid, However I would like to ask though wouldnt you think that if Junoon fails to deliver on their upcoming album, then they will become a novelty item like Vital Signs became after their 3rd Album? As the competition from the likes of Noori, EP, and even Strings becomes too hard to handle for Junoon. By the way I mentioned EP as their upcoming tracks ``Waqt`` and ``Rahguzar`` are hugely impressive. You can check them out at www.entityparadigm.com. Strings deserve a lot of credit as their songs still have that feeling of Urban Pakistan, and their numbers are just Perfect.

Regards

Syed Ali
