``so it really boils down to a choice between scenarios 6 and 7 .......... since india will never agree to 7, scenario 6 seems to be the only viable option - a small independent kashmir valley with the horrible hindoos and the pathetic pakis keeping most of what they have ......``
Hmmmm... Funnily enough, even a ``liberal Pakistani like HamidM`` picks up only a solution where the Indian part of the valley gets freedom. ``Azad Kashmir`` meanwhile stays in Pakistan in his scheme of things. It is only India that is supposed to give up, Pakistan keeps what it has...
Is it Daddy`s wedding?? Pyo dee shaadi hai?
The only solution is to keep fighting till one gets tired. Since Pakistan is smaller, it will get tired first.
I am willing to bet that if Pakistan is showing signs of exhaustion now, it cannot carry on fighting beyond the next 50 years. If things get out of hand, we can always threaten war and let the international community pressure Pakistan into slowing down things and maintaing the status quo which works for us.
The ideal scenario for India is to work on conflict management rather than conflict resolution. Meanwhile wait for the Mullahs to take over Pakistan (which will happen if Pakistan continues its proxy war for the next 20-25 years) and once they do, let the Americans take care of that problem.
We have nothing to lose but the Kashmiris. :)

You may be right. May be jehadists are just a nuisance value. But then they are ruling NWFP and are a force in Baluchistan. How would one know if they will easily succumb to pressures from Mushy?
Recently, Musharraf has given a veiled signal about his intention to recognise Israel. Would the mullahs and jehadists in Pak allow this to happen? This could be a testcase, as to who is more powerful.
Also, i have read reports that federal govt in Pak (under pressure from USA) is trying to bring in some fundamental changes to madrassa education. Will this succeed? That would be another test case.
Mushy is very dextly using jehadists to embarass India. Such a policy has kept Jehadists quiet, making them believe that the struggle for Kashmir is ongoing while Mushy continues to please his masters (USA) by hunting down the Al-qaida members. This policy may have reached its dead end as evidenced by US authorities arresting some Kashmir militants in US recently.

Modern Macroeconomics is a lot more complicated than you think. Nobody said having billions in the bank make them rich. You need to have the equivalent of one year imports as FOREX reserves to handle debt payments, prevent currency speculations etc. India`s 75 billion dollar reserves is $75 per head. It is a pittiance. FYI USA, Canada, Australia, France have much larger foreign debts than India.

I am not sure what is in a name. I have patronized Middle Eastern grovery stores in the past.
I have no problem patronizing Pakistani groceries. All I care is the product is top quality and price is reasonable. Of course I might reconsider if I think the fellow is funding Jihadi movements back in Pakistan.

{.. see how many north Indians would go to Lahore as opposed to other places.....just go to jackson height and notice the amount of business sikh music store owners have compared to the bengalis music stores on the back side along the theatre and liquor store...it is not the indo-pak but language that sells...}
...i am north indian and in the US i will go to any store that sells me what i need regardless of what it is named....my point was just that mr. jinnah was being a bit generous with the truth about pakistanis being from a different civilization or something...
