Dost:

that`s what I was wondering -- how the Colins and the Rodmans of the US diplomartic corps came to have such high expectations from India -- a full division? -- not even a medical contigent -- 17 thousand troops?

those crummy little sanghi morons -- they thought they could get away with this -- the 55 year old tradition of non alignment -- with 89% Indians opposing Bush`s Iraq war?

-- those hip-gyrating, musharraf- imitating, stupid BJP idiots -- even Mushyf can`t do that for his Bushy Pal Americans...

Veeresh:
Thanks for introducing some new kebab places. You have the potential to be a first-rate witty writer, if you could find the time to take a short course in creative writing:-).

Nasah:
I have elsewhere applauded India`s decision, which is correct not only on moral but also on pragmatic grounds.
But I think the Indians could have handled the file better. They gave Americans the impression that the decision would be favourable and asked them to facilitate their task by fulfilling certain conditions. The Americans satisfied most of those conditions, such as providing a fig leaf of the UN resolution and an Iraqi authority, Indians flying their own flag and using their own command structure, and US paying for their troops. Therefore, the Americans have reasonable grounds to feel let down.
What it shows is that the sanghis still have to learn how to conduct diplomacy!

Veeresh miaN -- please forgive me for intruding -- but I have to introduce some gourmet dishes from the Bushahi duterkhaan on the subcontinental menu:

India faces Bushfire for not sending troops to Iraq
Saurabh Shukla
New Delhi, July 16

In contrast to its mild public reaction, senior US officials made the US’s displeasure about India’s refusal to send troops to Iraq very clear in a closed-door meeting with Indian ambassador Lalit Mansingh in Washington.

Diplomatic sources confirm that the US administration conveyed that it felt “let down” by India’s decision. And said it could impact Indo-US ties in ``critical areas``.

In a parallel development, senior Pentagon official Peter Rodman told the head of India`s Defence Intelligence Agency(DIA), Lt-Gen Kamal Davar, that India’s refusal to send troops may have a negative impact on Indo-US ties.

The official US position is that “the transformation of US-India relations will continue as before”.

Rodman, the assistant secretary of defence (international security affairs), had visited India recently to answer New Delhi`s queries on troop deployment in Iraq.

Mansingh`s explanation that the decision was taken because there was no UN mandate was brushed aside by US officials. They told him that there was a clear mandate under Security Council resolution 1483.

They also pointed out to the Indian ambassador that the US had appointed a Governing Council, which was the first step towards setting up an Iraqi power structure in Baghdad.

The US had done a lot of lobbying to get India to pull its chestnuts out of the Iraqi fire.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell had been in close touch with US Ambassador Robert Blackwill and had asked him to make last-ditch efforts to seek a positive decision from India.

Officials believe that Washington`s displeasure stems from the fact that US was heavily banking on Indian support as there was domestic pressure on President George W. Bush to reduce US forces in Iraq.

Key US divisions were promised that they would be sent back once the Indian contingent shipped in.

Analysts believe there is a clear signal from Washington that the Indian decision may lead to some hiccups. (I`m sure right now India is shaking in its pants because Bushah is mad at India)

Says State Department spokesperson Richard Boucher: ``I am not predicting any particular problems.

However, we hoped the troops would have been able to go, I think in our interests and what we perceive as their interests as well.`` (HT)

of course what is good for Uncle Sam is ALSO good for Uncle Ram -- since when?

(what an illiterate, ignorant naive Texan Twit and his History Handicapped Jamaican Slave --(doesn`t even know that Vajpayee is a people-elected mister Vajpayee -- not a self-selected General Vajpayee).

Let`s see how many division even THE General can DARE to send to Commit COALITION CRIME in Iraq -- as the expression goes -- `over his dead body`....

Subroto - Al Kauser not the same anymore, first it went upmarket then it went political and now it moves in spurts. Bukhara had a mile long waiting list that evening, anyway eaten there before. Kolonel Kabab is padosi and still maintaining standards from the crowds outside.

Where are the better new kabab places? I really don`t know. Sad, but true.

Chinese-vinese dee gal karo?

I enjoyed being taken on this ride to dinner, complete with the description of the car rolling along on the roads, as well as the course of the dinner. Enjoyed the pace.

India Decides Not to Send Troops to Iraq Now
By JOHN KIFNER

NEW DELHI, July 14 — In a sharp blow to America`s postwar plans in Iraq, India refused today to send peacekeeping troops there.

The Bush administration had hoped that India would send (only a truly stupid MORON would expect such a treachery from my beautiful INDIA) a full army division of 17,000 or more soldiers to serve in the Kurdish region around Mosul, and exerted considerable pressure on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to do so.

That would have made the Indian contingent second in numbers only to the American in the occupation force and given a more international texture to a group that consists overwhelmingly of American and British troops.

It would also have permitted the Pentagon either to send some troops home or to redeploy them to more volatile Sunni Muslim areas in the center of Iraq.......(NYT)

Here we go, my apologies for those whose equilibrium was upset.

This has no reference to Jinnah/Nehru, Kashmir, Hindu/Muslim. More apologies to the usul suspects who had to go through till the end without finding any references. I should have included a bus.

This was a restaurant review, some of you would feel the same if you had blown up a minor fortune. Many apologies to some who have had better food in Delhi, especially those who were with me that evening.

This was also full of deep triple puns, for which one presumed local knowledge as well as an idea of what lies between Vindaloo and Chapati. Most fervent apologies to the dry kabab and onion as new haute cuisine gang.

Most of all, I once wrote a single sentence article for The Asian Age. It had 1800 words and was cleared on grounds of syntax.

Either I`m suffering from some Attention Deficit Disorder, or this article requires too much dedication to keep everything connected. I am more inclined towards the former. Maybe someone can prove me wrong.

huh? I got so lost reading this peice of verbosity. One of your sentences was actually ten lines long!!! Do you have something against punctuation? or are on a mission to confuse your readers....The only thing clear in this whole case was the footnote, so here`s a sincere suggestion, leave aside articles and start writing just footnotes, at least we would know what you are trying to get at!!! ;-)

read the article in intervals.....just when it started to make sense...it totally went incoherent. lost my attention many times but then faithfully came back to finish reading it. this might be unfair...so i will try reading it again.
