Dear Interactors:

I wish to acknowledge your feedbacks and thank you for them. I would like to write the following in response to temporal`s feedback. At the risk of flaunting my inadequate comprehension of Urdu classical poetry, I want to quote Ghalib:

Rekhtah kay tumhi ustad nahin ho Ghalib
Kahtay hain uglay zamanay mein koi Meer bhi tha

I am writing down all this from memory; if I happened to committ any mistake, please feel free to correct me.

After the sack of Delhi, Meer went over to Lucknow. He was in a Mushaira there as an unknown person, clad in rags and in a general ragged condition. People around him started ridiculing him and one of them put the `shama` in front of him which was indeed the climax of the whole sorry situation. Meer read the following verses as a personal introduction to the Mushaira gathering.

Kya bood-o-baash poochho ho Purab kay sakano
Hum ko gharib jaan kay han`s han`s pukar kay
Delhi jo ek shahr tha alam mein intikhab
Rehtay thay muntikhab hi jahan rozgar kay
Oos ko falak nay loot kar weeran kar diya
Hum rahnay walay hain oosi ujray diyar kay

There are a couple of verses from Meer in the following; they are so popular that many of the readers will already be familiar with them.

Meer oon neem baaz aankhon ki
Sari masti sharab ki see haiy

and

Meer kay deen-o-mazhab ka kya poochho ho kay oon nay tau
Qashqa khaincha, dair mein baitha, kab ka tarak Islam kiya

I`ll end my feedback with Ghalib:

Nakardah gunahon ki bhi hasrat ki milay daad
Ya Rabb agar in kardah gunahon ki sazah haiy

With regards,

Mohammad Gill

Gill

Enjoyed reading Sheedah`s story - the story of an ordinary life. Like most of us.

(could have avoided the PHD reference)
