Yasser #5, you got a point. Not just Muslim/Pakistanis but other immigrants too, they tend to continue to live out of a suitcase with one foot in the time/place in history they left. And then when they find that everything is dynamic, changes take place and their foot is still in their `70s hole or whatever, then they try to brainwash their kids as proof of ``success``.

Some of my most radical hard-core fanatic Hindu friends are expats. Likewise a few Muslims.

I guess the sociological reason for this is that for a first generation immigrant, segregating personal failure from professional failure is near impossible. Then there is no fallback family/friends safety net either. So, bingo, again the kids get it in the neck.

I guess that`s how the difference between an immigrant and an ethnic minority spells itself, too?

I think america is down to third world tactics i.e. conduct the media trial of political opponents to reduce the significance of finger pointers - present your oppoenent as a monster and it will hide your monstrosity. It is working. Please keep in mind that since 9/11 no American court including some of those closed kangroo courts have been able to convict a single soul. We the people on the other hand give benfit of doubt only if our biases and prejudices permit. otherwise we buy the media trials like hot cakes.

There is a dangerous trend amongst the first generation of American born citizens of Pakistani origin. They tend to become more Islamic than the Pakistanis in Pakistan. There has to be a sociological reason for it.

David,

wake up my friend, the number three man of alquida was found in the house of a major of pak army. No prize for guessing the rank where number one will be found. The entire pak society supports jihad, there was an article by kuldip nayyar where he visited the mosque that mushy attends and the mullah was ranting about kashmir jihad and the wealthy and the powerful were giving lavishly to the mullah.
Now tyere is no funds from the saudis, the hijack fame, asghar has launched a new jihadic organisation with so much of fan fare. It is the ordinary pakistansi who are supporting jihad. You should realise that it is the jiahdic elements of pak army who have brought the extremists to power in pakistan. See the legislation in NWFP. The entire banning of PPP and nawaz party to bring the jihadists to power is the proof of convergence in pak polity, of army and the jihadists. This was the payback that mushy offered to the jihadists for supporting kargill invasion.

I hope you don`t mean to suggest that this the fate of most Pakistanis who go to America and are even inclined towards the American style of living.
I believe this is an isolated incident and should not be taken as the fate of every Pakistani in America...

Not surprising.

I have come across perfectly sane, educated, well off persons - who come out with crazy schizophrenic conspiracy theories against their religion. This phenomenon is more common in states where the state identifies itself with a religion or does not endorse another religion or ideology.

Here the preachers and their institutions get a free hand to brainwash the young impressionable minds.

And the usual schizophrenic disease is channeled in ideological terms unlike the secular states or societies.

I thought Chowk was a forum to exchange ideas(bigoted ones) and not a news publishing platform.
