``dude there`s a differnce in telling people their sisters are sleeping with so and so and calling someone an ullu ka patha ``
umm, if you read carefully, I made a hypothetical statement about sleeping with a sister. In no way did I state that this will or should happen. The recipient of the post understood me perfectly.
You on the other hand were not being hypothetical. You called my father and another interactor`s father an owl. While that does not worry me in the least, it does demonstrate an inconsistency in your approach to insults depending on the recipients` gender.

just the kind of incident that has us resorting to each others maa behn...
I give a real example, Papua New Guinea, in the Pacific Ocean, South of West Papua of Indonesia comprises lots of islands. One of these, Bougainville was fighting for separation for the past decade and a half. Their society/culture is more close to Samoan islands than the Micronesian one of main PNG. For 15 years fights raged on, between the separatists/rebels and the army. Recently, there has been a ceasefire, and you know how that came about? Ladies of the land went up the mountains where the rebels hid and said, ``no more fights.`` Now the have been given an autonomy and are working to come over the ravages and destruction of fights.
The point is that if Chowk, a cyber forum can have us all call each other names, deride leaders of either side, can it really be a meeting point? I joined it because I took it that it would be a place where ideas for better could be shared and aired. Farzana wrote what she underwent. If we all start shouting and cursing/abusing, what hopes are there some solution could be reached.
I agree that for any problem to be solved, you have to examine its root causes and do away with it. All the same we need to increase our understanding and tolerance of others. twisted ethnocentrism, xenophobia and a refusal to see the others point of view is what has led to this. Just look at the human angle of it, the lives lost, the grief caused, and realise that it was hatred that made this blast . and stuka, please don`t involve the muslim/mother/sister factor into it.

Mars, not Islamic militants, to blame for Bombay blasts: astrologers
Tue Aug 26, 8:51 AM ET Add Offbeat - AFP to My Yahoo!
NEW DELHI (AFP) - While Indian authorities blamed Islamic militants for car bombings in Bombay that killed 52 people, astrologers are convinced the culprit was Mars, which is dangerously close to Earth.
Astrologers believe the current positions of the moon, Mars, Saturn and Rahu -- an imaginary malefic planet in the horoscope -- bode ill for the near future, with the Indian government due to make wrong decisions and the public responding violently.
Astrologer R.L. Kanthan told The Times of India that the spell of misfortune will not ease until September 20 with the movement of Mars, the planet that ``portends violence, wars, bloodshed and combat``.
Satish Sharma, another astrologer, saw Thursday as a day of arson and rioting, as the Earth, Mars and the sun would be all in one line.
He said another example of the impending chaos was the political turmoil in India`s most populous state Uttar Pradesh, whose leader, Mayawati, quit Tuesday.
Sharma noted that the symbol of Mayawati`s party was the elephant -- associated with Rahu.
``Rahu is traditionally associated with fire and sudden explosions,`` added fellow astrologer Mahendra Mishra.
He was more pessimistic than his colleagues, saying the current danger would not be over until Mars enters Pisces on December 6 -- coincidentally the anniversary of the 1992 razing of a mosque in Ayodhya by Hindu fanatics which set off India`s deadliest riots since independence.
At least 52 people were killed and 150 injured Monday in bombings outside the landmark Gateway of India monument and in a busy market near a Hindu temple.
Officials have blamed the attacks on local Islamic militants working with Lashkar-e-Taiba, an extremist group founded in Pakistan but banned there last year.

stuka,
dude there`s a differnce in telling people their sisters are sleeping with so and so and calling someone an ullu ka patha
it doesn`t take a rocket scientist to know that, there is absolutely no comparison between the two....

``Your post# 31 is actually really very profound.``
Thank you.
``Sometimes we have a tendency to attach false pride, greed, and injustice to our ``give`` part. ``
Very true. But who is the one doing so obviously varies by perception. Even if I am to accept your example of India and Kashmir..Afghanistan, Palestine Chechnya..everywhere the Muslims are fine but the ``other`` is to blame?
Pardon the rest of us for thinking that you want to fornicate with our mothers.

with respect to blaming pak, i am encouraged to see that so far at least, indian government`s response has been pretty measured. next step -- if there is serious evidence to show that people from pak were involved -- is to sit down with pak sarkar and ask pak sarkar to pony up the suspects. and no harm in involving uncle sam or e.u. if pakistani govt refuses to play ball. and important that these steps be taken without the knowledge of zee tv reporters. political posturing (i.e. rubbing sand in our faces) and clash of civilization approach will enable govt few seats in the next election but it will not stop these incidences from happening again.
and to pakis who rightly hold indian govt responsible for a lot of this mess, i say let us be bold and offer our support without any quid pro quo. one side has to take the first step in terms of behaving rationally and it might as well be us. plus deliberate targeting of civilians is wrong no matter how legitimate the cause. it is about time that everyone in our part of the world learned this lesson.

RE # 36 ``Now the monkey jumps up and down and screams its head off but he is greedy``
Another reason for the screams is because the neighbouring monkey is trying to set its tail on fire so that it can grab the jar instead...oh what nuts these monkeys be..

farzana,
i believed-- and recent comments by Advani confirm my beliefs--that no matter who carried out the bombings the indians would not waste much time in linking them somehow to pakistan!
**
i can`t believe that the dhoti-clad advani actually is demanding that pakistan hand over a list of 20 `terrorists` wanted in india to prove that our govt`s condemnation of the bomb blasts was meant! thankfully our govt has told him to get lost. they might be lackeys of the americans but at least--for the moment--they don`t take any shit from the hindus! hand them over indeed! who the hell does advani think he is?
having said that i do condemn the attacks as they just killed innocent people and were completely unnecessary and wrong. assuming it was SIMI who were involved--as a hindu friend of mine said yestarday (and he is from gujarat) ``agar tum kissi ko maarogay tau voh tujhe bhi waapas maaraingay na``...
i think that this whole episode is linked to the babri masjid issue...

I have very serious doubts about your game. A blast occurs in Mumbai. Almost everyone I knew, tried to check news media frequently to get details, contacted their family members in Mumbai and than either talked about it - or in most cases continued with their daily chores. You are a strange case, who runs immediately to a computer keyboard, to file the latest scoop. What is your motivation here? Certainly not money, Chowk does not pay anything. Is it just to start a rumor mill?
``Wrong. When that box was being carried to the courts, the TV news already mentioned that BOTH sides had got their legal cells ready to counter the ASI report.``
You wont wait for court to decide on the report because you have already decided about what a fair report can be? In that case we should not have gone through this circus of ASI digging. One should have called Dear Farzana Versey for her decision!! Am I correct?
``As for ‘many’ Hindus preferring that there would be no temple there, that is a hoot, and you know that. So stop playing games. ``
Well! well!! So you have again decided that it is a hoot. Even I do not care about that temple, if none of my friends care about that temple, it is a hoot. If you already have preconceived ideas (or let us assume that you have some ability to know) on what everyone else is thinking than why do you even try to discuss anything? You already know that it is a hoot.
For your info my dear Ferzy, someone approached my friend circle for donation. Majority opinion was, why to waste money on a temple. Let us donate it for some other cause. Discussion than moved to Ayodhya. Majority opinion was gain to use it for a park, factory, hospital or in worst cast ``give it to %$&*``, let them waste their money on that. But who gives a hoot?
``Because bearded maulanas do not hold sway over the Indian Muslim mind. I have said this repeatedly. Imam Bukhari’s son cannot win an election, and even the non-bearded Syed Shahabuddin lost his deposit. ``
Dear Ferzy, you know that you are joking. When Shahi Imam asks votes to be given to a specific party, he is not doing acting. He is quite serious. You make it look like as if only hindu sadhus are involved in politics. Sadhus entered political race quite late. You ``bearded mullas`` have been in race for last 100 years.
``The man who offered to adopt the child is a convict on death row; the child will be orphaned again. The child’s mother has not shown any enthusiasm to give away the child. Isn’t it strange that no comment has been made regarding the sexist nature of the report, or that the media is disregarding the DM’s report? Sure, I did bring in the conversion aspect, because these stories are there merely as sops. ``
Someone is at least offering a solution. That is as best a solution as that death row inmate can offer. If you want to offer a better solution, Ferzy bibi, than you adopt the child. As far as convicting the rapists is concerned, do that on a parallel track. But do not start cursing the only person who offered any solution. As far as magazine report is concerned, same media also printed reports of Pakistani child being treated in India. Can`t it just be another case of media trying to find another story of ``hindu muslim bhai bhai`` in anticipation of a Indo-Pak break through. You have seen it happening earlier? Why do you have to see a conspiracy theory in everything?
``The ASI’s findings have already been disclosed to the courts, which is how we know that they dug deeper. This is being contested by the Muslim Personal Law Board because there were legal provisions as to the dimensions. Please check out the old reports where the ASI had clearly stated that there seemed to be no sign of a temple. Why did it change its version? Why were Muslim organizations represented only when they insisted? ``
Have you read ASI report? Why do believe that it is doctored even before reading it? Let it get printed and let saner people decide if it is phony? Why have you just started jumping that it is a bogus report?
Certainly you know something that other people do not have access to.
``Because like any two-year-old I have intuition coupled with common sense.``
Ferzy madam, you are behaving like a 2 year old. And you know it very well..
