I LOVED the Broncos-Raiders game! It`s not just Shanahan who gets great joy at beating up the Raiders!

It is amazing. Twenty years ago, when I had not begun pre-school I recall sitting in a small dinky apartment in Fort Collins next to brother and dad watching the Broncos play their weekly games.

Even watching sports functions as something that brings people together. My dad, who otherwise is no good in playing ANY sport but watches them all with a passion, would explain how the rules of football work.

Since the eighties, so much has changed with the Broncos.

New uniforms. New logos. New coach. New stadium. Two Super Bowls. And of course, no more John Elway.

Yet the loyalty to the Broncos remains! But we better watch out for dem Chiefs!

There is not many bigger sporting events on the planet than:

This week-end happened to have the Broncos/Raiders showdown and boy o boy it was some show.

It was great to see Ashly Lelee and Mike Anderson reviving the ``Mile-High Salute`` that one of the greatest Bronco, Terril Davis, invented in late 90s.

As on the topic of Gen Tauqir Zia I am surprized that the man has now turned against Rashid Latif and has publically stated that it still has to be seen if Rashid has a place in the team and criticised the catch that I talked about in this article. He let his son Junaid Zia play for Pakistan, despite below average talents, that in itself speaks how commited he is in playing by the rules.

South African Tour of Pakistan:

I was outraged reading South African refusal to come visit Paksitan, considering the fact that it was recently evaluated by the same country`s Cricket board that it was safe to Play in Pakistan. I have always supported a country`s decision not to play if player`s life is not safe I supported England`s decision to not go to Zimbabwe and Newzland`s decision to abandon their tour of Pak after a bomb blast in their hotel. But UCBSA decided it was safe to play and then within 2 days out of blue in reaction to an isolated bomb-blas pulled out of the tour. Only one word REDICULUS!

Perhaps UCBSA needs to look into the history when Pak players were stabbed, muged in Johnsberg but had no words of complaints when their worldcup base was a city none other than crime capital of RSA Johansberg.

JJ thanks for article about cricket. Every body was extremely disappointed by decision (S A teams refusal to play, I agree their country is not haven, in fact most of worries of people there about being mugged by Mandela`s ANP gangs).as we can not see great team of ours at home grounds. I think team has improved as can be victory over bangla desh. I am delighted to see Rawalpindi express is in full steam and his form is good. He was able to give punishment to bangala deshis and battered their battsman. Can pakistan sue SA Cricket establishment in some way to to recover expenses and lost reveues by Idustry of hoels? Can players be held responsible ?. Can we (should also) ``teach`` lesson by cancelling and bycotting till they contribute to spirit of cricket by being good sportsman and Gentlamen?

Thanx for your comments. By the way South Africa has agreed to have a shortened tour of Pakistan starting from 1st October of this year, this happened once Pakistan threatened to do what your were suggesting.

I have a great deal of respect for Nalsen Mandla and regard him one of the greatest leaders of this century, and I don`t know if ANP`s personnel are purposely mugging foreign cricketrs as I fail to see any political gain from such an act. I think such incidents are isolated simple street-side crimes without any deep political orientation. May you know something I don`t.

The latest is that Rashid Latif has resigned as a captain of the Pakistan cricket team. This event following the recent outburst of Mr. Tauqir Zia does raise some questions.

First of all the biggest blunder Mr. Zia had done was not to appeal the 5 month ban on Rashid. Although, it is clear that it was more of the fault of the umpire then that of Rashid. The logic used by Mike Procter holds absolutely no weight. As per his logic if a batsman doesn’t walk after nicking a ball, he should be banned for five matches and a bowler who successfully appeals for a LBW to a ball pitched outside leg stump should also be banned for five matches. I think the should have taken up the matter like the Indian Cricket Board when Tendulkar was banned for ball tempering.

Secondly Rashid in his position both as a captain and as a wicketkeeper to date has done an outstanding job. It is a well-known fact that Rashid is a very honest and straight forward man. There is not point in changing him at this current juncture.

Thirdly Mr. Zia has been the one who has to date changed numerous captains and coaches since he has come to power with hardly a difference. Yet as Freddy Mercury said ``Another one bites the dust``. Till very recently I truly believed in Mr. Zia`s ability to turn the cricket fortunes of Pakistan around, up until I saw Junaid Zia playing for Pakistan. Had Junaid performed better maybe I would have changed my mind, but really the Bangla batsmen cared two hoots about his bowling and his figures portray the rest.

Keeping in mind all these factors, I think its time for Mr. Zia to bite the dust and not Rashid. Mr. Zia’s contribution in creating the academies is a good one for which we should be grateful. But on the National Team level he has been nothing but a pain in the butt.

once again (not surprisingly) while talking to GEO last night...His has once again proved his critics right by throwing in the towel when going got tough and once again the target of his contempt is none other than his `buddies`...However, he was careful not to annoy the General-in-Chief of the Pakistani Cricket Board...a crafty operator he is, this Rashi Lateef....he has once again made a mockery of Pakistani Cricket, which is held in low esteem both on and off the field by every serious cricketer and cricket lover around the cricketing globe...I wonder why this chronic whiner was considered for the captaincy in the first place...He is nothing but a whiner and I hope that this would be last time that we will hear of him on and off the field...

So Rashid Latif has resigned as Captain.........unclear whether he is still a part of squad or not.....in his interview with GEO TV he preferred to keep his lips crossed regarding any dispute with the selection committee or Gen 2qir.

When Ronaldinho claims unfairly an offence and gets a penalty and a goal against Turkey in the World cup its ok and he is a hero... but if Rashid Latif claims a catch that was well taken for many seconds... its a crime... wonderful.

Anyway... Rashid Latif should`ve been more careful. He is the leader of the Pakistan team... he should act like one... I remember when that catch was taken however, and those who have seen countless replays can see that Rashid Latif genuinely thought it was a catch.

You talked about about everything from hotels to india using missile, Tendular aka ``Tendulkar`` to rawalpindi express. but u just missed on one thing Rashid Latif`s Controversy. But that is totally understandable as ur a busy man running a 4 star hotel with 5 star facilities.
Ur relevence of Nelson Mandela with this article was incridible and speaks load about ur understanding,education and depth of knowledge.

I guess in Canada Cricket is more popular than USA, but cricket history is very strong and rich in USA. Sir Don has mentioned name of a man named Bart King, who has been a great fastbowler in english county and was from Phildalphea. Sir Don credited him for introducing the art of swing bowling in cricket. First ever international Cricket match was between USA and Canada.

These days Cricket is not that popular among Americans, I would prefer not to think in terms of Blacks and whites though. In our Cricket league there is an american kid, 19 years old, who learent cricket in Colorado and plays in USA under 19. He is a good quick bowler and an awesome hitter.

It does not matter what me and you want USA team participate in red stripe cup, a premire first class tournament in westindies, and they have decent team. I fail to understand how American will bring vulgarity and sex in the game ? I don`t think India has ever refused to tour Pakistan for the fear of security to their players, as did South Africans, they have been refusing to come to Paksitan for very politically charged issue of Kashmir. I may not agree with what they do but these two issues are poles apart.

Every country uses sports as a tool of political propaganda USA has done, USSR, Germany, England and our own beloved homeland Pakistan has also done so. These all countries have in past opted to boycott Olympics for political reasons.

Yes I think ICC should take charge of these things and have clear cut policy about what the penality would be in case a country opt to pull out of her tour of another country. It still is a legitimate right of a country to opt not to tour a country for political reasons and me or you agree with the point of view a country is a very different thing any way.

I must confess at the end that I found rest of your post unrelated to matters of cricket in general and issue of Rashid Latif in particular. I can imagine your pain of trying to find a match for your intelligent daughters but I would rather prefer to talk cricket in this post. I hope you understand my limitations.
