When Wells gave up the HR on the first pitch in the 7th, I thought the game was over...you’re right about Pedro...when I saw the manager leave him on the mount after he had already thrown...what...114 pitches?...I could sense trouble for the Sox...I tell you...they are cursed...or why would they make such a stupid move...Rivera is arguably the best reliever Yankees ever had...he’s awesome...

“You think we are that inebriated?”
I don’t know about that...but I’ll believe you when you two start singing mujhey dunya walo sharabi no samjho / mein peeta nahin mujhey pilaiee gaiyee hai...being in Group 2 would do that to you!!!
“My comments would make the writer of this piece mad at me”
I don’t think I can ever be mad at you.

Godot (#212):
You turncoat! Every second post you change your mind...anyway, what is this business about hamidm and I crying on each other`s shoulders? You think we are that inebriated?
Anil (#210):
My comments would make the writer of this piece mad at me, and he is right in that the Board is becoming too India-centric.
Regarding your other query, you could email me at farzanavee@yahoo.com.
PS: I usually take individuals at their face value, therefore i do hope this is not a red herring, though from your earlier interactions I reckon it is not.

Hamidm, 198
Wait! I don’t get it...on the one hand, you have consistently bemoaned the lack of democracy in Pakistan and have praised India for it...now, on this board, you are completely pessimistic about it in Pakistan, citing ungodly reasons. Is that because “I” wrote it favoring it (I figure you’re mad enough at me to throw a bottle of Merlot at me—but not before gulping it down and emptying it out first--God forbid if I get a sip of your Merlot)? Or is it because the malt liquor has finally taken its toll on you and you can’t even think or walk straight?
Your statement “so what is the answer? ......... heck, i don`t know ...... i just finished reading dinesh dsouza`s ``what`s so great about america`` ( what a great book!)”
Should read “so what is the answer? ......... heck, i don`t know ...... i just finished drinking the whole bottle of Glenfiddich (what a great whiskey!)”
Although I like you, I’m very tempted to put you in Group 2.
Btw, I don’t build “use cases” for Oracle...
Ras, 202
Okay...you’re back in Group 1...maybe we should put both Farzana and Hamidm in Group 2...they could bemoan together and cry on each other’s shoulders...while you and I go drinking beer...
Arjun_m, 206
Thanks for pointing it out. I have known about it for some time.

Dear Farzana (#195)
``nazarhayatkhan (#194):
[You seek to have a better democracy in India. We seek to have a democracy.]
Perfectly put. ``
Don`t you think that to seek a better democracy in India, you must have a viable alternative to BJP rath yatra, and Manohar Joshi`s re-writing of school books and silly attempts to teach astrology in IIT`s. For better alternative to emerge, media has to show emotions behind tears in women`s eyes after Sonia Gandhi`s speech, rather than rath yatris rehtorics about her foreigness. Don`t you think you should reconsider your bias against NRI (other foreigners).... to start?
Indian democracy must become issue base rather than emotion base. Only then Modis would not think Gujrat riots to fan emotions and use them as glue to coalesce vote blocks. An alternative to BJP`s agenda has to include economic, and devolution of power to states and further down that BJP has achieved through coalition.
Just a thougt, and would love to hear your comments....
Also, I am interested in adopting a village in Indian Kashmir with muslim, hindu and buddhist population. I dream of building a village level entire infrastructure economic, social and education infrastructure that especially empower kashmiri young girls and boys. If you know any organization who can help me adopt a small Kashmiri village please put me in touch with them.
Thank you.

democracy, shamocracy..........
........... there is no way that pakistan will have a functioning democracy - not in twenty years, not in fifty ........... why? ....... because abdul, the man in the street, does not know what it is, does not care what it is, and wouldn`t know it if it hit him between his unwashed ears ............... abdul is convinced that democracy shamocracy is a zionist-american conspiracy designed to destroy islam and is too far down this slippery slope to turn around ............ he has to hit rock bottom before he realizes that in order to get out of the cesspool he needs science, democracy and capitalism, and that his obsession with religion is standing betwen him and a decent life as a human being .............sure, some will say that abdul is a fool who has been disappointed by idiotic secular leaders, foolish generals and venal politicians and in despair has turned to god ............. doesn`t really matter what got him there - it is going to be next to impossible to turn him around without a paul bremmer ................
.............. so there is no turning back the clock ............ godot, who should stick to building use cases for oracle instead of a case for democracy, thinks that if the army got out of the way the judiciary will take care of the politicians, and they, in turn, will start behaving like white men and pass bills in parliament to stop honor killings instead of abusing the opposition`s female relatives ............nonsense!.........which judiciary? ....... the shariat courts, the panchayats or the supreme court ?.......... and what about the cii?.......... how can you even begin to talk about a democracy when you have half a dozen parallel legal systems ........too much water has passed under the bridge and the ship is headed for the fall to hell ......... and nobody has the intestinal fortutude to even attempt to turn it around ........... nobody talks about undoing the stupidity of things like blasphemy laws, hudood laws, religious taxes and tax exemptions, state mandated prayer, discrimination against pigs and dogs and ahmedis and women........
................so what is the answer? ......... heck, i don`t know ...... i just finished reading dinesh dsouza`s ``what`s so great about america`` ( what a great book!) and realized that we don`t even have the basic ingredients - abdul is not ready and i am convinced that there is no chance that he will be able to pull it off without some outside help .............. as long as abdul is still hung up on khaldun, sayid qutb, ghazzali and qazi hussain there is no hope for democracy or indoor plumbing or reopening the liquor store at melody .......... for god`s sake, just last week they were trying to burn down melody cinema ............

Farzana, 195
Farzana, I know that India is not an ideal country for millions of its people. Current Indian democracy is perhaps more a reflection of Modi and Thakrey than of Nehru and Gandhi. One hopes that the likes of Modi and Thakrey would eventually fade from the Indian political scene and more rational and thoughtful leadership would emerge. When I say maturity will eventually come and signs are pointing towards it, I was thinking of GNP per capita of about $15,000 (in today’s dollars). If India can keep up with its growth of 6%-8% range consistently, that would happen one day. It will take time. (By then all of us Chowkies may be dead and gone). But it will happen. That is the sign I’m talking about. I think it’s there. India has managed to put itself on the road to economic recovery. Once a majority of a country has tasted living well, it develops a stake in it. When most people have their bellies filled and have left overs, a country starts to mature. India has a long way to go in that respect; but as of now, I view it as a dangerously infantile country with a chip on its shoulder.
You are right. This is getting too India-centric. I wanted this board to be Pakistan-centric.
Why beer? I don’t know. I have developed a taste for it (but thank goodness no belly). I usually stay away from hard liquor. It’s good only once in a while (I’m very health conscious). I drink almost on a daily basis. Beer is good for that. So is wine. But not Merlot. Too heavy. I like Chianti better. I switch between beer and wine: A case of beer, then a bottle of wine, a case, then a bottle...and it goes on...(no, I don’t drink a case or a bottle in one day!)
“now I know what a Pakistani...is like”
You mean to tell me that, up until now, you didn’t know what I looked like?
Ras may be a gentleman, but I’m mad at him...I’m not taking him out of Group 2.
No, no Indian friends in “real” life. May be one or two at Chowk...
