SameerJB: The way `us bay wafa ka...` is pictured on Musarrat Nazeer is worth watching. Look how carefully she composed herself for those tragic lyrics. Many thanks and regards, Anis.

Banjara: Apart from the four great Pakistani composers, we are fortunate that we had great music directors like Sohail Rana, Nisar Bazmi, Khalil Ahmed and Nashad as well. Thanking you, Anis.

SameerJB:

Music of Shaheed was composed by Rasheed Attre, who was one of the four great Pakistani Music Directors along with Khwaja Khurshid Anwar, Baba Chishti and Feroz Nizami.

[The super hit song, rendered by Naseem Begum, ‘Us bay wafa ka sheher hai’ in the mega- hit film ‘Shaheed’, remains her signature song till today! ]

Very true indeed. Not only she played in that movie but the music by Khursheed Anwar ( I guess) made this song as one of ten best Pakistani songs, also making Munir Niazi (poet) famous for this ghazal.

She sang this ghazal, herself many years later and what a beauty.....

Ras: You are absolutely right. Musarrat Nazeer made every effort to pitch in and did whatever she could to make things better. And yes, you reminded me of Imran Khan the great. Wishing you all the best, Anis

When I was a kid I had a huge crush on her.

Saw her last at the Imran Khan Funraiser in 1992.

Why does the movie ``BAAZIGAR`` come to mind?

Maybe I`m mistaken.......

Ras

( PS: Anis Thanks again for this trip down memory lane. You are doing a great job on

CHOWK by promoting Pakistani singers and arts. After Palkistanis ``discovered`` religion

during the Zia era, I am wondering if our movie industry will ever make a return?)

Dost - Mittar

She lives in the TO area, when i lived in Canada, it was the 50th independence day for Pakitan, and she sang then.

I wish i had heard her then, but missed it.

I didn`t know she is in Canada. If she starts singing here, she would drive away many mediocre and worthless singers that keep sprouting here. Her panjabi wedding songs are a treat!

Chale tau is one of my all time favourites.
Its amazes me now to know that MN was already past her forties when I first saw her on the tv in the eighties! She sure belied her age then!
We cousin had an amusing time at her expense for our nana would shake his head in despair whenever she graced the screen, short of muttering lahaulwala quwat for her `ghonsle jaisa` hairsytle!
That she was an actress too is a revelation!
Such body of work...............truly amazing!

I first saw her when she appeard on tv...
in an electric blue saree...with dazzling long earings...hair in layers....and that ...great smile...
singing...:

` pichay pichay aanda mairi chaal vai naa aayoN...cheeray vaalaya vaikH daa aayeaayN vai maira long gavacha

that number was immediately a hit...with kids elders..girls boys singing it on the streets...in schools...

then came :

chalay tau kut hi jayay gaa safar aahista aahista...
hum un kay paas jatay thay magar aahista aahista...

she then did few shadi songs :

`` muthay tai chumkun vaal maira bUnray dai`

I know her more from her singing career then her acting. What I loved about her was her vibrant personality and her mannerisms...and the way she sang...happy and enjoying every bit of it...

ofcourse my father and other elders...got very excited about her singing career and would go on and on about how great an actress she was too...I saw glimpses of her black and white movies on tv...but they all seemed the same to me at that time....

I also loved Bushra Ansari`s parody of her in 50 50.

I wish she had sung more. Her voice was meethi and had a little alure to it....
