Thanks for qualifying that. Sometimes it seems that the consequences of not doing things correctly in the religion are a little harsh, all blood and hellfire. Somewhat unforgiving. Just an outsiders perspective.
To an outsider it can seem frightening.

Why do Muslims eat more food in the month of Ramzan than in other months? Why the prices of food items rise so high in Ramzan? Is this what Ramzan is meant for? Why there`s no honest effort from the ulema to stop the wastage of food in this month. They ask the Muslims not to waste food but they themselves don`t hesitate in over eating and wasting.

Hello
Sir Naqshbandi, since your article is being scrutinized you might want to make a minor correction. You have attributed the following to Pir Sayyid Jama’at Ali Shah Naqshbandi when infact they are merely interpretation of two ahadith found in Bukhari.
Those who fast have two felicities: The first when they break their fast at the time of iftari—this is not due to the fact that after remaining hungry all day one gets some food but because of the realisation that one has fulfilled an obligation (fard) which Allah has placed on one. The second shall be the Vision of Allah.
There is a gate in Paradise called Riyân and those who used to fast shall enter into Paradise through that gate.
I just wanted to point it out because someone sooner or later will raise the question of how Pir Naqshbandi had the knowledge of Ghaib (reference to gate in paradise), when only Allah can claim such knowledge, and the Prophets whom Allah allowed to see of the Ghaib that which He desired.

faiza:
how i wish you would dispense with this sir, and respected business and stick simply to a name here:)… on the unplugged we can indulge all we want in our idiosyncrasies...
...call it six of one or half a dozen of another...whether one month prepares us for the other eleven or the other way around...the crux is...we live and breathe the twelve months...
...yes the huqooq are intertwined but they are separate too...like the limbs on our bodies...and in the past have maintained this one cannot ...repeat… cannot deal with one at the expense of the other...any other way of looking is self-delusionary and unproductive and demeaning to both Allah his Messenger (saw) and to fellow human beings…
…this gross imbalance between the understanding and practice of the two huqooqs is a travesty on both God and Man

Hello Sir Temporal
How are you. About your post #5
The month of Ramadan is supposed to prepare us for the rest of the 11 months of the year. It is our lack of devotion/faith that we act conscious only duirng this month and act neglectful the rest of the year. Huqooq Allah and Huqooq ibad are intertwined so please don`t look at them in separate spheres. They are not on the two opposite sides of the spectra rather they make the spectra together.
I believe we had a discussion about the two on unplugged a few days/weeks ago. The majority reciting Quran and not understanding it is simply ignorance because in the Quran it says that one should comprehend the words of Allah and not merely read it for the sake of reading. Its a shame that in countries like Pakistan, kids are taught to read the Quran (usually thats not even with proper tajweed) and not taught arabic as a language.
Respected PunjabiZulu
We all have our own perceptions, especially in matters of faith. As far as what Mr. Naqshbandi wrote about its obligatory nature, I think it would have been better if he would have used sofer terms rather than such harshness. Islam is a religion of moderation and Allah does not burden his servants with more than they can bear. Considering the vast bounties that we have, are we even desrving of such mercy from God (whoever it is that you believe in, doesnt necessarily have to be Allah).

...in practice ramadan is special by default only...just my personal observations only...the rest of the eleven months we sink below the norm (is there such a thing a a norm of behavior?...yes, there is...but that can be discussed another time)...
in the other months generally and in ramadan specifically...this over-emphasis on huqooq ullah at the expense of huqooqul ibad is maddening and counter productive...
...and merrily the majority recites in a familiar but un-understood language...

Assalam Aliekum Mr. Naqshbandi
Thanks for a wonderful article, its always nice to be reminded of the true essence of Ramadan which seeks to elevate our spirituality by strengthening our E`man.
And ofcourse, who can be more eloquent in relating the essence of fasting than Rumi:). May Allah bless us and strengthen our E`man, ameen.

Sometimes Islam seems like a very frightening thing to me:
~~To deny its obligatory nature is kufr and takes one out of the pale of Islam and not to fast (without a valid reason-see below) is an enormity according to the dictates of the Sacred Law (shar’iah) punishable by hellfire-~~
hellfire??

Ramadan not only purifies the body but also the soul. Thanx for refreshing about the bounties that this month brings.
May the Lord Almighty give us the strength to fast and do all the good in all the possible ways we can :)
