to continue the dialogue about God and the Retina -- let me make an assertion that -- there never was -- and never will be -- ONE GOD -- For ALL TIMES To Come --

its a fallacy -- it`s the JudeoChristianIslamics LIE -- that their GOD is one and the same

it`s NOT --

they say it -- but in their hearts of hearts they know -- that the Jewish God is different from the Christian God -- the CHristian God is not the same as the Muslim God -- and of course the Muslim God is ..... is entirely something else -- can`t ge along with anybody else`s God..

...so where the hell is their much touted Monoethism......

Hindus may be be little honest in accepting that there are more than ONE types of Gods -- but they have made the same serious mistakes that their Gods and Godesses have been there IMMUTABLE and FROZEN for all times to come....

they are NOT

the Jewish God of 5 thousand years ago -- is NOT the Same God that guides them in 2004 -

the Christian God of 2 thousand years has changed in an unrecognizable form in the 20th century --

the only God that seems to have FROZEN SOLID -- in SPACE and TIME -- IMMOVABLE -- IMMUTABLE -- UNEVOLVED -- for the past 14 hundred years -- is the MUSLIM GOD --

at least this is what our fundamentalist Muslims brothers and sisters would like us to believe -- and will kill you if don`t --

they want to force us Muslims to ACCEPT that the MUSLIM GOD with its Muslim Umma is the SAME GOD -- in 2004 -- THAT appeared 600 AD in the Arabian desert --

has since been shut for the past fouteen hundred years in the Cryogenic Chamber of Islamic TIME -

A God -- that can be thawed any time -- any number of times -- in any century -- including in 2004 -- and HE will be as good as new -- as of FRESH RED FLESH -- as the day HE was born -- `For All Times To Come`.....

the honest fact is that everybody knows and believes -- that their GOD is very much DIFFERENT from everybody else`s --

there is God for the crookes, for the racists, -- for the murderers -- for the genocidal Mongols -- and for the Mongoloid Texan invaders of foreign lands --

and there is ALSO a God for the developers of polio and small pox vaccines -- discoveres of Aspirin and Peniccillin --

by any stretch of imagination and common sense -- it couod not be the SAME God for Mr. Geroge Bush and for -- Mr. Albert Einstein....

so what it tells us my friend is that the God is a very Personal MUTABLE Progressive Guy -- with an inborn urge and capacity for creating, innovating, reinventing and improving HIMSELF over and over again -- over the centuries

it is not the same IGNORANT God that used to reign -- 5 thousand years ago, -- 2 thousand years ago -- and the LAST one -- 14 hundred years ago --

IT IS definitely NOT THE SAME GOD THAT REIGNS SUPREME TODAY..

so what it tells us folks -- that our GOD just like our RETINA -- has been a VICTIM of
Mr. Darwin`s treacherous EVOLUTION -- and for that we must all.....Thank God....that he made a man like Mr. Darwin available to us to understand -- God`s Retina -- so well.....

Chemistry of Vision

Vision is such an everyday occurrence that we seldom stop to think and wonder how we are able to see the objects that surround us. Yet the vision process is a fascinating example of how light can produce molecular changes. The retina contain the molecules that undergo a chemical change upon absorbing light, but it is the brain that actually makes sense of the visual information to create an image.

The light image is mapped on the surface of the retina by activating a series of light-sensitive cells known as rods and cones or photoreceptors. The rods and cones convert the light into electrical impulses which are transmitted to the brain via nerve fibers. The brain then determines, which nerve fibers carried the electrical impulse activate by light at certain photoreceptors, and then creates an image.

The retina is lined with many millions of photoreceptor cells that consist of two types: 7 million cones provide color information and sharpness of images, and 120 million rods are extremely sensitive detectors of white light to provide night vision. The tops of the rods and cones contain a region filled with membrane-bound discs, which contain the molecule cis-retinal bound to a protein called opsin. The resulting complex is called rhodopsin or ``visual purple``.

The molecule cis-retinal can absorb light at a specific wavelength. When visible light hits the cis-retinal, the cis-retinal undergoes an isomerization, or change in molecular arrangement, to all-trans-retinal. The new form of trans-retinal does not fit as well into the protein, and so a series of geometry changes in the protein begins. The resulting complex is referred to a bathrhodopsin (there are other intermediates in this process, but we`ll ignore them for now).

As the protein changes its geometry, it initiates a cascade of biochemical reactions that results in changes in charge so that a large potential difference builds up across the plasma membrane. This potential difference is passed along to an adjoining nerve cell as an electrical impulse. The nerve cell carries this impulse to the brain, where the visual information is interpreted.

In the previous copied post, a chemical named retinal is mentioned. The chemical structure of retinal in trans form is very similar to vitamin A. The structure of beta-carotene, found in carrots is also close to a dimeric structure of vitamin A and many people use beta-caroteme as daily supplement instead of vitamin A, to decrease the chance of vitamin poisoning. It is interesting to note that many folk remedies suggest eating carrots for taking care of vision problems.

There is no greater fury than an atheist (or mullah--or whoever) scorned--paraphrasing sheikhpeer.

indeed man is created with an explosive orgasm -- but then -- it EVOLVES FROM THE UNION of TWO HALVES OF A CELL -- AND GROWS STEP BY STEP -- in stages -- INTO A HIGHLY COMPLEX `ENGINEERING` MARVEL......

If God could creat Beings -- JUST by saying ``Be and it will Be`` -- then all of us would have been born full grown -- with beards and moustasche -- at every explosive orgasm --

could creat such complexities as a retina in just one explosive moment of uttering such a simple stupid sentence -- ``Be and it will Be`` --

think about it young man -- doesn`t it sound plain dumb when you take a deeper dissecting look at the marvellous complexitiy of a retina.....?

this creation of a retina with its most intricate -- exquisitely artistic arrangement of RODS and CONES --could NEVER have been achieved -- in one explosive step --

it could ONLY have developed thru -- trial and error -- from simple to degrees of complexities -- stepwise -- by mutations AND SELECTION -- the survival of the fittest -- rejection of the unfittest/misfittest -- thru eons of EVOLUTION....

The Engineer must be working in a group with a Chemist as Project Manager. Here I thought that Engineers work with calculations. What is the ratio of the lengths to each other of 4 fingers of a person after normalization? Here ratios of right hand do not exactly match the ratio in the left.....engineering degree from Akora Khattack, eh?

Accident is most bizarre term to be used for evolution. Even freshman genetics knowledge is enough to not call it accident or human body as bunch of molecules..

At present the theory of evolution is the best explaination possible. The ``God`` theory has inherent logical flaws associated with it but since most of us do not strive to follow the logical path,the ``God`` theory seems OK.
Humans normally find it too much of imaginative leap to think about the process that took millions of years. We normally think in terms of few years and thats why most of us are unable to comprehend the beauty of evolution.

Is it ok to extend your argument to the designer itself? If there exists an entity so complex and sophisticated that it can design sophisticated things like vertebrate eyes, surely there is a designer who designed that entity and ad infinitum ...

Indeed, this is something so obvious when one takes a bit of time to study the body in depth. Teeth look quite plane but when one studies their structure in depth it is incredible.

Thank you for sharing this, Irfan. I`m not sure how much detail was discussed at the seminar but if you venture beyond the retina and along the optic pathways to the visual cortex, the neural circuits themselves are mind-blowingly elaborate. The magnocellular and parvocellular streams and the topographic representation of the visual field within the optic cortex is just stunning. It leaves you speechless.

This is no accident.
