``dreams i had hung out in the courtyard to dry `` simply beautiful
#6 Posted by samankhan on January 5, 2004 7:48:19 am
Beautiful and touching...
Really liked:
`Dreams I had hung out in the courtyard to dry.
I’ve been waiting for someone
to send me a handful of sunshine
wrapped in an envelope.
And my mother, I know
is too old to make it to the post-office.`
Even though Internet makes communication fast and easy at the go of a button, letters have a charm of their own.

Nice! Curious to know if you write in Urdu? Some of the imagery seems to have formed in Urdu and transposed into English...

I thank you all for appreciating the poem. Shehla: No, I do not write in Urdu but I`ve been influenced by Urdu poetry and I think the sensibiliy of Ghazal gets reflected in my work. Although I think poetic imagery is always universal and has little to do with a particular language, you are right in that I think in Urdu even as I write in English. Thanks for your perceptive observation.
