punjabizulu:
Thanks for re-reading it and understanding it - and i was reading through the `straining on profundity`; i have always wondered how writers are able to do that....don`t think i have reached that level as yet and if i ever do i would want to step out of reality with my words but not to the extent where it becomes too fabricated.

faizahussain:
no, ill never be one of them and besides its more fun to be `among` them and watching the show ;)

Sharmeen

I read it again. There are some good lines here. I just felt it was highly strung in places. I would like to see you integrate these feelings of dislocation and ennui into a more straightforward narrative. But then that is just me as an individual and my subjective view. Keep writing, you have talent.

:-)

dear sharmeen.
very well written. reads like sheer poetry, very few writers can get thier point across and yet say what they wish to say with such sheer rythym and flow.
very impressed

Hello Sharmeen Sahiba
Congrats on making it to front page:) Yes it feels like you have conquered something when chowk editors decide to publish your piece:)
Interesting piece, intricately woven, I had to read it twice to actually comprehend it. But it was worth reading the second time:). Its actually a sign of living if you are feeling different then others; dont try to blend in, too mundane:) stand out from the crowd, and you would see the beauty of life. Take care. And your nephew (Rayan) is very cute, mashAllah:).

Its basically about the feeling of belonging in my city; Karachi. I am brought up here but while growing up i realized how my life was so different than many others in the same city.

The essay is basically about stepping out of `my` world and looking at what lies beyond--its fictional...but the incidences i described have parts of my reality tucked away in them.

Dreams are never reality--but what we want reality to be like...they are a source of hope.

Dreams are never the Reality.

Hi Sharmeen,

Good Job. Lots of angst and passion in this piece.

``It screams at me telling me I am not a creation of God if I can’t listen to my heart or mind.``

Beautiful line.

Keep up the good work.

Hamidah

this is simply beautiful, like all of your writings are. i can relate to some parts so well, especially the first two paragraphs. the last stanza just leaves me lost for words. this is truly so touching.

Am I the only person who think this was pretentious and straining for profundity?

Accepting is one of the most difficult things in one`s life ... accepting people, circumstances, life, reality and the list goes on...
this is when you realize how fabricated everything can be and what we percieve to be real really isn`t real.

so i guess -- reality is whatever you allow your mind to accept at a particular moment in life.

thanks for your comments :)

Excellent! How decietful and vulnerable art we? Our guilt is our biggest tormentor; our biggest judge but how many of us are ready to accept it?
