`Dying in a Strange Country` was published by Tsar Publications and `The Attar of Roses` by Three Continents Publications.

i really admire tahira naqvi for her portrayals of pakistani women, and her translations of ismat apa`s stories. i`ve had the opportunity to correspond with her and she`s always been very gracious. `the notebook` is one of my favorite stories. . and it`s in `attar of roses` for those interested.

i haven`t had a chance to read `dying in a strange country` yet. look forward to reading it.

there have been comparisons of tahira naqvi`s writing to that of jane austen in terms of its satire. don`t know how justified such comparisons are, but understatement works very well in tahira`s stories. i can`t wait for her novel to come out. thanks for bringing this to chowk.

#1 Urbashi,

You can also look at Zeynab Ali`s earlier article - Mapping Karachi`s Charms and Contrdictions. I found it quite informative, specially the comments to that article.

Thanks. There`s so little we know about Pakistani women`s writing in English, apart from Sara Suleri, Bapsi Sidhwa and Tehmina Durrani (and of course the writer of the very interesting for various reasons Noble Rot - forgotten her name right now, but believe her second novel is also available in an Indian paperback). Can you tell me the name of Naqvi`s publisher and where I can get her work from? I`m working on South Asian women`s writing in English and find very few names from Pakistan, and none from Bangladesh. I`d be very grateful for suggestions.
