ziaghory - a typo - I meant shiraz - an often forgotten wine which is slowly making its way back.

SugarBaap- Geez. I would like to hope so. Let me tell you, my dad would like to hope so. Grazie.

Hmm... the only remedy for three mangoes (not four, mind you, that is a different story altogether) is to eat an avacado. Naked. In the living room, preferably on a straw mat, while inserting one finger in the right ear. Any finger will do. It is easier to use one of the right hand, but it is up to you. (People have strange tastes.)

Follow with a shot of tequila. No chaser.

Good luck.

I keep arguing with people that Syrah and Shiraz are the same. Syrah is the Americanized name for Shiraz. I think.

wow - somebody mentioned jeff buckley.. on some cd cover i remember he was like - nusrat fateh ali khan was ``my Elvis`` ...

the textual density of this piece is veeery low.. why not cut out all the empty space
and save some bandwidth?.. some good lines with syrah and all but not enough meat..

by the way this syrah reminds me of shiraz.. is it a sis-vintage of shiraz by any chance? or is it some imaginary defunct arabian wine?.. reminds me over and over of Shiraz though..

keep it up!

Saminasha- Thank you for your advice, but this piece is not meant to be a typical short story where a lot elements can be expanded upon. This is a drunk man`s tale. His point of view while being drunk on Syrah- which by the way is a type of red wine (one of the best in my opinion). It is an experimental piece- very stream of consciousness.

SugarBaap- Thanks for the sensitivity to the pain I am not exactly feeling myself. When reading a short story (or a poem, for that matter) must it always be assumed that the narrator is the author? There is a difference, darling.

Whippinzed- What`s siraj?

Honourable- Right on! (And acquiesce to the Syrah- it beckons to you...)

P.S- Saminasha, I have never heard this song before but it sounds very similar to my idea. Plagiarists! (kidding) I will have to check it out. Thanks.

The author need not tell us what syrah is! (re:#5). Its been explained (alluded to) earlier the very first line `Syrah. The one I love to drink. Plum red in an olive green bottle.``

If you still dont know it I guess some siraj would do anyone good.

Also was reminded of this song...you actually have to hear it...

Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine

I lost myself on a cool damp night
I gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotized by a strange delight
Under a lilac tree

I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
And be what I want to be

When I think more than I want to think
Do things I never should do
I drink much more that I ought to drink
Because it brings me back you

Lilac wine is sweet and heady,
Like my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady,
Like my love

Listen to me, I cannot see clearly
Isn’t that she, coming to me
Nearly here

Lilac wine is sweet and heady,
Where’s my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady,
Where’s my love

Listen to me, why is everything so hazy
Isn’t that she, or am I just going crazy, dear

Lilac wine, I feel unready for my love
Feel unready, for my love.

Some successful moments here.

What is syerah? How is it brewed/made? What is it`s history? What is it made of? Tastes like?

If Syerah is somehow a metaphor for Sanaa, or at least linked to this character, we need some of this info, but woven in implicitly.

Awesome! Never before had I looked at solitute at this depth.

On a lighter note, I must reconsider my pledge to stay away from a Syrah.

lve,

t

ps: the teaser reminded me of this:

Mirror of Truth

the sages found
and fought over
now the mirror
of Truth lies
shattered, each piece
valued, possessed
for the truth
it reflected
