Excellent Analysis
You are quite an observant student of rhetoric I take it, One of the technically proficient traps of this article was the the beginning where the audience is drawn into reading a story about a Pakistani born girl who was raised by the American Army community in germany. I came into read a story about a personal experiance of discovery instead found an excellent anthropological analysis of some academic strength. The issues you discussed were appropriate and lacked polemical discourse....to an extent.
So maybe there is a second part to this, where we see the realisation of identity through the eyes of a Pakistani Born girl brought up by the American Army in germany. That would provide an excellent basis for thr arguments you set out in this piece. Not intentionally trying to be Pedantic.

Ms. Durrani how long did it take you to write this article after reading my own ?
This is really annoying. I submit an article on The New Identity written in plain language and the Chowk Editors decide that they must put up something that cannot be read beyond the first paragraph.
Bravo. Is it any wonder that it takes me a year to submit anything to you.

Ms Durrani
You conned me into reading your research paper. I expected to read you personal experiences and only that instead you tricked us into reading text book. I hope you are not an ustani, because if you are then you must be the most feared ustani in school.

Mariam:
An excellent dessertation with a nice beginning.
So, are you more Pakistani or American?
My suggestion: You can be both Pakistani and American by becoming an excellent representative and image builder of Pakistan for Americans and vice versa.

Majhha: O apnay munH nooN vaikh , Bunder jiyaa munH hai tiraa
Gamma: Tey tirra munh! tira munH khotay jiaa
M: tiraa munH lotay vrgaa
G: O tiraa munH pateelay vargaa
This went on for over an hour, and there seemed to be no end that this establishing of each others identities would finally be resolved.
Then suddenly, out of nowhere a boomerang is thrown by Majhha:
Majhha: O tiraa munH, O tiraa munH Havaa (air) vrgaa haigaa
Gamma:(perplexed & confused)-- O , Oye Havaa daa kehRRah munh hondaa aye?
Majhha: O teraa vee koi munh hai.
Poor Durrani types really do not exist. Lost souls. Haunting ghosts. Bhataktee roohaiN.
But there are a lot on CHOWK too to keep her company--most of them are in Pakistan (living cadavers only). They drop names here of food, music, dress , writers, and accents--
in a ``noveau-riche`` fashion as to how evolved they are. ``old-money`` laughs at these proletariat punks. What else do they have to show for achievement, haan?
Ever wonder why the rich, the poor , or the practicing ones never suffer from this malady called ``identity crisis`` ?
If your expenses exceed your income, you will always have an identity crisis (patent pending)

How about if your fecal poundage exceeds your body weight? Do you have an identity crisis then?
What if your malignant cancer cells exceed your red blood cells?
Your grasp, your reach?
Your mouth, your brain?
The universe, your ken?
What then?

echoboom,
Sad to learn that you failed to see beyond my personal identity comments. The bigger picture went right over your head.
The purpose of the article was to show a glimpse of the general societal folly when labeling this group or that group. Such labels lead to greater social and cultural problems than my personal view on my personal identity, such as prejudice, racism and female oppression. Didn`t these subjects bother you more? Instead, you chose to only see my personal input and I am disappointed. I had considered excluding the introduction but felt it might add a human touch to what I meant to convey.
It`s exactly people like you to whom I wanted to display my perspective but unfortunately, I failed since you didn`t understand the gist of the article but only the first paragraph.

saminasha # 9 - your agressive style makes many a men squirm in their pants (or shalwars). It is aggressive women like you who have rattled the eternal male dominance - and in the process robbed men of their identity and given them an STD called ``performance anxiety``.
as for your very imaginative question regarding the high fecal poundage to body weight poundage ratio, i would venture to say its more of a sanitary crisis than an identity crisis.

that`s interesting, that men should display `aggressive` behavior on chowk and not receive comments about their aggressive behavior making anyone squirm and samina should show some assertiveness and all hell breaks loose.
ah, but that`s the way of the world. : )

Mariam:
welcome to chowk!
(you will do fine with me-muslim:me-best chest thumpers:))
Only with an evolved notion of the self is it possible for contemporary society to permanently eliminate the antique specters of prejudice and racism.
…this hasn’t happened in evolved societies yet…we have to learn to live with prejudice and racism and work to reduce its ill-impact…Gnothi Seuton is an endless and thankless task…but in the end we are better off for trying than for not trying...
… women are now acknowledged by men, for their Identity as fellow human beings rather than the Identity as a female and therefore, deserving of equal rights….
…you sure the me-muslim:me-right legends-in-their-mind are cognizant of this?
...elsewhere today i commented on desi men’s attitude about women…about how (in my experience) desi friends do not easily or readily admit the role of their mothers in ‘cultural value transference’…(you mentioned Lacan’s mirror phenomenon)…commenting on this a friend made a frightening observation….i know am digressing slightly…she said if this transference to the child is more from the mother than the desi mother must be suicidal…in that she is breeding this new generation of fundo-beasts…the me-muslim:me-best ignoramuses … regression their 7/24 mantra…
...only their ignorance beats their arrogance…

nooralain # 12 - I did not intend to make any ``hell break loose``. I actually meant it as a compliment to Samina. Sorry if you misunderstood it.
Besides, Samina reminds me of the women of my family. They are all, without any exception, dominant, powerful, and assertive. My therapist and my trauma counsellor will tell you that I am a better person today because of being raised in such family.
