I don`t remember Shafi Mohammad in Sitara aur Mehrun Nisa :S. I do remember Anwar Maqsood (writer & actor), Sania Saeed and Sajid Hassan though.
Atiqa Odho is a great actress. None of her movies can be called ``good`` or ``great`` though. I think you got a bit carried away there :-).
The latest heard of her was her launching her own brand of cosmetics!

Atiqa Odho has bought a change in Showbiz by her beautiful appearnce and sincere indulgence in plays like the ones sitara n mehrun-nissa,
Far also keeping semi modelish look but perfect drama attitude continuing the series back of 70`s, she rightly emerged.
Would be more inspiring if actoresses who been vertebrates of pakistani drama in laying foundation of literary culture ... as Rohi Bano are monumented till their recent state...

Atiqa has become old news. Sitara & M`nisa was good but that seems like eons ago. And yes there was no Shafi Mohammad in that play. But this was an okay read.

I also think Atiqa Odho is a ravishing tv actor, model and a compere ....
pur aap kuch ziada hi jazbati ho gayay...
You mentioned that she got the best of education in USA , Could you throw some light on which University she went to and what did she study?
and then you wrote :
Thinking young is great feeling healthy is even better. In spite of her hectic schedule, Atiqa manages to keep herself young, active and healthy
She was recently on tv and was asked..`` at your age, do you mind doing character roles``..and she replied..`` dhaikaiN jee..I just turned 30....`` :) :)...
bus udhur hi insecurities ayyaN ho gaeeN...

Anis,
Don`t you think you are getting a tad carried away here? I mean ok so she`s good-looking, ok she can act reasonably well. But why the mountains of praise? A little balance is in order I suppose. Also, looking at the picture there`s certainly one detracting thing I can say, the lady has definitely not learned to act her age. It`s all fine and dandy saying ``You`re only as old as you feel``, but on the other hand, having a 45 year old woman wearing pigtails and prancing about in sneakers is not a very becoming sight (just an example, am in no way insinuating that Ms. Odho has ever done this).
Irfan.

Escapist,
Benazir also went to Oxford. Never got any degree , never completed her education and God only knows what her grades were...She wasnt even qualified to be a BA ( Nawaz Sharif too ) when Musharraf made a bachelor degree a prerequisite..
so just being in an american school doesnt mean a thing...
hamay tau diplomay ki photcopy dikhaO...

Is it true that Benazir never completed her education at Oxford?

What`s with this tribute to Atiqa?
She is a good actor, no doubt...but i would agree with irfan (#8), there`s no balance in the article. It`s FULL of praise and praise alone. A more balanced and detailed writeup might have been better.
and #4 by Saminasha...Atiqa is definitely not among the young artists who are contributing towards the media industry of Pakistan. We have a lot of young talent in the form of actors, musicians, writers and artists who are doing big. Check out bandbaja.org for reading profiles of young musicians in Pakistan.

Ifti:
The Educational Time period of Benazir is summarized below:
The daughter of former Pakistani premier, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto was educated in the west, notably at Harvard University, and Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. She temporarily left Harvard for New York City in 1971, when India sent troops into East Pakistan -- soon to be called Bangladesh -- and her father, as West Pakistan`s foreign minister, traveled to the United Nations to resolve the issue. Benazir Bhutto joined her father in New York City and acted as a kind of assistant to him. This seems to have been a formative experience for her, in that watching her father in action brought her out of the academy and showed her the ways of power politics. Her remaining years in the United States included active participation in various social causes.
During her time at Oxford, she was president of the Oxford Union, after the election had to be re-run because she accused her rival of illegal canvassing. Her entire undergraduate career was fuelled by controversy, coming in the middle of a period when her father`s administration was being challenged both at home and abroad.
After graduating, she returned to Pakistan, but, in the course of her father`s imprisonment and execution, she was placed under house arrest. Having been allowed, in 1984, to go back to the UK, she was leader in exile of her father`s party, but was unable to make her political presence felt in Pakistan until the death of General Zia ul-Haq.

Atiqa Odho is a fairly good actress--I wouldn`t call her great--but she can hold her own. As for the compering part though, she just can`t do it. At least not in English. I am surprised therefore that the writer claims she was schooled abroad and had to learn Urdu late in life. At the Rhythms of the Indus show (Royal Albert Hall) in London last summer, she and Art Malik had the job of master/mistress of ceremonies. All I can say is that without Art Malik, it would have been very hard for Atiqa. She just could not speak English without reading it off the pre-prepared text. And, the accent clearly indicated a convent schooling and I at least could not detect any western accent--American or British, which is why I am a little surprised at the writer`s portrayal.

You cannot learn a language perfectly with accent unless you are born in it. I have been living in England for the last forty years and my children who are born and educated here make fun of my English. They have been trying to teach me for years the pronunciations of the simple words like Three, Interesting, Status Quo, etc. I just cannot get my tongue around these words. Atika Odho faces the same problem and I think author is either naïve or got carried away and overrated her educational abilities.
Adika communicates reasonably well in Urdu though there are couple of problems there too. If we compare her with Bashara Ansari for example, Adika cannot speak Urdu with proper Urdu accent like Bashara does but then again almost all TV hosts suffer from this problem and therefore it is acceptable in the media community.
However, what is not acceptable is that Atika trys to plug in English words and phrases in her speech, i.e. she replaces Urdu words with English words in her conversation; for example, ham BREAK (Vaqfa) laitay hain. And she is not the only guilty one here; unfortunately all Pak celebrities and educated people do that and feel proud of doing it. Main un ko PARDON nahain karun ga. Oh Man, Oh Man, Oh Man; Why? Iqbal, Mir, Ghalib, Mohd Rafi, Talat Mahmood and many more wrote the word ‘Mouaff’ in stones, in waves in Qawalis, in Shair –o –Shaire in Adab; is it not good enough for God sake?!
May I take this opportunity to convey this message to Pundits and Thakars of the Pak Radio, TV and film industry please stop mixing Urdu and English languages and save Urdu from destruction. And stop teaching young kids words like: Dad, Mum, Uncle, Thank you, I am sorry, O.K., Etc. Are you ashamed of your own language?
Above is better explained in an article called “Junk Urdu Phenomenon”. Any one interested can send me your email address and I will email the article to you. My email address is given elsewhere on Chowk.com.
I must say, Atika Odho is a glamorous lady, which she knows it and she flaunts it and she looks elegant doing it. She is a Pakistani Sophia Lorren of our time and If my wife would let me, I would like to marry Atika and buy her one of her ‘khabun ka ghar’ in Islamabad she is currently advertising on ARY.
