Sucheta,
Have heard the same. Would love to travel across the border to find out for myself too!
Actually even LA reminds me of Karachi.
Santa Monica can completely pass off for some areas in Bath Island.

Hi All.
KAPITAIN #13
``WOAH..I FELT SORRY FOR THE COCK ROACH...AS IT ENTERED..ITS EXECUTION AREA...BEING KILLED..IN A GUERILLA WARFARE...
ANYWAYS..IT HAD MUCH TO DO..IN SUCH A PERFECT STORY..
NOW..THIS DOESN`T MEAN..THE WRITER COMES WITH A FLYING..ALLIGATOR NEXT TIME..TO KEEP THE ANIMAL GREEN PEACE AT BAY..LOLLZZ.. ``
Whaaat? Feel sorry for the cockroach?
Please tell me, what is the PURPOSE of a cockroach, I mean in the Great Scheme of things? Would the balance of ecology suffer in any which way if the whole species of cockroaches is wiped off?
I am not scared of alligators/lizards/spiders etc etc. Scariest animals being human beings. :-)
So, may try my hand at flying humans the next time.
Jokes aside, thanks for reading and your feedback.

``Long restless, quivering antennae, hairy legs...`` so is this what scares women?
best cockroach stuff since K. Franz
No, that`s not all. There is that colour, a repulsive, shiny brown (or worse still, a deathly albino), there is that crafty scuttling, the awful flat eyes that seem to be able to see all around. When they fly (blanch....), the unique, creepy sound their wings make AND.. if you pick up a glass and take a deep sip and then the smell that hits you of a cockroach which had been there.. GAG!
Or the worse of all, the feel of the legs on your body... time to DIE..
I remember once we were on this romantic houseboat on Kerala backwaters, cozy if a bit warm under the mosquito net. And then I smelt the cockroach smell and then felt one.. on my neck.
Panic.. I couldn`t get out of teh net fast enough, getting more panicky as I kept getting more entangled...
When I finally managed, I wanted to jump off the boat into the dark waters, even though I cannot swim!
Irrational, illogical..? Yes sure!
Thanks for the totally undeserved comparison with K Franz! I am honoured, Sir!

Thanks very much for your kind words. Especially as I see this is your very first chowk interaction. Hope to see more of you.

Loved your random thoughts and your stuff about yourself.

``Suchetaaa,
Brings to my mind memories of Karachi, warm afternoons, breezy evenings, palm trees and Sunny Side Rd.
Lovely ending! ``
Thanks Cloudysky!
I have heard from many that Bombay and Karachi are rather similar in many aspects. No idea whetherit is true or not. Look forward to finding it out myself one day.
Take care

You too? When I wrote the story, 3 years ago or so, I was green as I was typing!
So very happy you continued on though.. hope it was worth the moment of panic.
Keep smiling!

Mr Ansari,
I am truly sorry if I came across mean towards you. I was so relieved that I didn`t seem to have irked folks this time round, that it was out of sheer relief that I said that...
No offence intended.
I am sure that fangs, should you have them, are retractable..
Take care and warm regards
Sucheta

Very well written Sucheta. But scary Dr Ansari? Now thats a thought
There is a scary doctor from Karachi
Whose name is Amir Ansari
Oh how the patients quiver
They tremble and shiver
As he grills them (with bhindi) on his hibachi

Dear All,
You know, I sent this story off more than ten days ago and had been chewing my nails - they don`t like it, they HATE it! Felt very sorry and depressed.
Then last night, I got the mail saying that they have published it. YAY! I was so very happy.
Woke up this morning to all of your positive responses. Even Mr Ansari, who I am beginning to feel a little scared of! Thank you all..
Baby`s Room is personally one of my favourites. I love its innocence, and the drama that is built into its small span. Not to speak I am petrified of cockroaches.
Not to spout a cliche, but chowk has made a tremedous difference to my quality of life.
Warm regards
Sucheta

Suchetaaa,
/Humming now to herself, she swept into the room and marching to the window, threw it open.
A fresh cool gust of wind rushed into the room, stirring lazy dust-motes. The dolphins in the mobile danced merrily and the tiny bells jingled along. In the garden below, children shouted, their high fluty voices drifting in. Somewhere not too far a dog barked a joyful bark.
The large leafy tree outside waved its branches and the afternoon sun threw a laughing beam of pure gold into the baby’s room. /
Brings to my mind memories of Karachi, warm afternoons, breezy evenings, palm trees and Sunny Side Rd.
Lovely ending!
