I guess the real problem is that the British at some point did not take over Nepal completely. If they had done that, Nepal would be another state in India and just like West Bengal had its run with the Naxalbari movement, Nepal would have had its infection by Maoists under control after some time.
But then, India would have fcuked up even more under Nehru, losing most of Nepal to China!

I like the word Musharrafising !!!
As for Nepal my deepest sympathies they have a King and the army to deal with.

And, of course, the solution lies in setting up as many NGO`s as possible, right Beena? By the way, the tourist industry is doing just fine. Only a year ago I was in Khatmandu. And I could still score that amazing Red Nepali hashish. What else do the tourists go to Nepal for?
Monkeys?
I mean there aren`t any worthwhile shopping malls there. So the NGO people should have a bit of a problem. And why do I get the feeling that most of them will find the Maoists a ``bigger evil?``

A good eye-opener on the Himalayan Kingdom. For most Indians neighbourhood means Pakistan (and reverse is also true for Pakistanis, I guess).
It is a bit saddening that India does not (or could not) do anything to salvage the situation.
