There there, niki jee, it`s ok if you can`t write, really it is. Now go wash your face, you`re foaming.

Wow, Kyla. I love the tone of your poems--the silences and pauses in this one in particular are stunning. Excellent job.

You know, I get the feeling ol nik is jealous.

Dude - no one`s ever analyzed my poems stanza by stanza before. Very exciting. And thanks for all the defense.

#7 midihash: I love you.

kaura,

Nikki is pretty funny by him/herself. Don`t have so much self appreciative confidence. (ego?) I will burst it with my prem teer (arrow).

Nikki you may become my chela with appropriate dikshina.

Dear boys/girls and kaurasach,

I request you to listen with your eyes without prejudice. Allow me to tell you I am not into literary criticism (not my area), but the good thing about free verse is that it`s easy to decipher, so here`s my explanation of Kyla`s poem:

I blew my wad on all the bright light boys
and when they spiraled down, like fireflies
over the edge of the world, I cried –

1) This is about exploration and trial of available choices. Choices are of two types, ones defined by society and the other, the individual`s own. The challenge for the individual is to, find a way to reconcile his/her choice with the society`s. Here, there was a good attempt/effort at reconciliation but apparently it didn`t work.

See, I always wanted to save my boys
from ending, from breathing, from stifling themselves.
But they don’t last – that’s what I’ve found –

2) The mourning put very nicely (in the first stanza) suggests there was no grudge against the common but attractive choice, it was just something not meant to work for the individual. In the 2nd stanza, the individual develops the case further on that idea. And you see a conviction: But they don`t last - that`s what I`ve found -. The individual choice is unique in nature and he/she is content upon keeping, what is, in the best interest of individual`s identity.

so I bring out wrench and stethoscope
and I put out
my travelling shingle

but for all the bright light boys
that Wyle-E-Coyote down,
I tell you, there’s nothing in this saviour business anyhow.

3) The writer goes further to make the point elaborate. The individual knows the tools of the trade but is not intent on trading them for them (the bright light boys I mean) knowing that they don`t work with them. ``I tell you`` gives a hint of finality without prejudice. The most powerful aspect of the poem are the words `History of the World`. The poem talks about facts learnt from history.

And nikki7777, excuse me but from the standpoint of history, there seems to be a lack of neutral judgement in your comment. Although, we are all plagued with personal opinions, it is always a good idea to stick to known facts. Boredom and Depression are phases that both men and women (married or unmarried, rich or poor) go through, it is not a `thing` designed for `specific people`. I know a lot of married people who get divorced, commit suicide and yes get bored and depressed too. The media is flooded with such stories. Give us a historical account of your ideas, we are willing to believe you.

someone please explain this poem to me. i am seriously trying to learn how to decipher these poems

............One has to be female, well-off(father or husband), bored and suicidal.Only then.

I will ignore the sexist overtones of your comment. You are obviously a big Wordsworth fan. Fire bad, tree pretty, babbling brook; babble, brook, babble.

female - yes, well-off (father or husband) - agreed. But bored and suicidal?? Explain please.

Ms. Pasha, you`ve done it again!

Excellent use of wrench and stethoscope; me likes it.

There are certainly better business propositions available ;)

Cheers
