A really good and cheap DVD player that handles almost everything you throw at it. No need to do any conversions when burning DVDs. Even reads movies and music off data DVDs

Philips DVP 642 (there is an asian version too).

I do not think we need nationalistic jingoism to decide whether we need cheaper priced goods or not. Chinese goods are value for their price- if you want good quality chinese stuff thejn be ready to pay for it- the chinese can even deliver you the quality you look for in you piece of hardware. I think chinese goods are necessary to induce competition in the domestic industry- otherwise the monopolists have a field day palming off the junk they produce domestically to the un suspecting consumers.
