Does Wagah Have to be This? Or Could it be...

Only solution to make people come closer and all countries in SAsian Region to prosper is to Create a `United States of South Asia`` or USSA in place of SAARC. After all whole of Europe is Now One then why Not us who share same culture,history,traditions,customs,practices and languages.

Wagah exposes the peacock variety of macho men, typical of the sub-continent.
The DMZ in korea has some of the most scary armed men in the world, on both sides. But they do not strut like vain peacocks.

If I was in charge on the indian side, i would put a company of female soldiers / bsf on the indian side. the pakis could`nt do that for ideological reasons and end up looking stupid.

Why do we have to make half hearted attempt at reaching out? And why do we even allow the vulgar show of belligerence that goes on on the wagah border? Through our silence aren`t we all co-conspirators in perpetuating the hate filled philosophies of the two countries- ? Especially the hate that TNT and its numerous proponents have made it a part of their indeginous institutions?
The two hands which have been cut off is a reminder of the hate that politicization of religion begets in the sub-continent- and by not shouting down the religious bigots we only strengthen their hands and put our futures into jeoperdy.

First time I went to Wagah was 1969 or 70, to ride back with the London-Sydney Rally, to ride with a group of hippies in 1973, then as a diversion on a trip towards Manali in 1974. I`ve seriously ``done`` Wagah/Attari when it was far from being famous, that would have been 1988 or thereabouts, to check out some cars passing through on a rally. Then again on 14/15 AUgust`97, when the 50-years and candle burning was at its highest pitch.

After that it became like taking visitors to Agra to see the Taj, avoidable, if you`ve lived in Delhi.

More recently, I went through Atarri road border`s antithesis, the Attari/Wagah rail border.

As a landscape artist, what you consider working on is the mynahs at Attari/India Railway Station, the way the poor are still shafted and the bleak landscape amidst green fields.

If you can transplant that into Delhi and Islamabad?
