`` because 9 out of 10 good things I have said about Pakistan are not challenged by them -``

I am not sure if I have understood this. Are you saying, you have said 10 good things about Pakistan? Or are you saying, even when good things (10) have been said, they still are chanllengeable by the people/place about whom good things have been said? This tantamounts to someone saying, ``You are a handsome/beautiful (as the case may be) person`` and expecting from that person to challenge it. Is that what you are trying to convey? When you compliment a person, why that person would challenge you, in most of the cases?

And for Yasser/various - you still don`t get it, do you?

I am here to put down my observations as well as reasonable inter-actions.

You, on the other hand, as a self-stated proud Pakistani, my fine young friend, are here to give me an answer - what are you doing about the deprivations currently rampant in my father`s land? And if your best answer is denial, then that`s an answer in itself.

There are no schools for the poor, there are no books for the poor, there is no entertainment industry left, the media is expensive, jihad boxes can still be found at public locations, there is no right to self-determination, the status of women and minorities and sects of Islam is/are in deep regression, the railways are in worse shape than they were in 1947, etcetc - and the best you can come up with is SHAPES?

Read up on the meaning of patriotism, and let me have an answer?

tahmed32/192 - point I am making, tahmed32, is that whether it is Hindu terrorists in Gujarat or Muslim terrorists in J&K or garden variety hoodlums wherever and whatever, democracy in India gives people certain rights . . . and I would not expect you to join Yasser in his standard name calling, please.

rajsinghi/190 - I actually took the trouble to analyse this low-circulation low-ad revenue stream newspaper cost thing in Pakistan, by looking for paralels within the vernacular media in India. (where also 20-page broadsheets go for 2-3 rupees and 100+ page full colour magazines sell for 10 max 15 rupees, and that`s using reasonably decent quality paper as well as quality machinery.)

My take is that the baba-log/baby-log Gul-burger lot, would rather keep their people in the dark, so what better way than to keep the media expensive?

Another thing which I have not mentiond as yet, which I shall do in my wrap up and analysis, is that I observed a stark abscence of pharmacies/chemists and bookshops in Lahore and `Pindi. (Isamabad has some, but they are aimed at the rich, controlled by the same families and clustered in one area) Likewise, I did not observe the typical groups of lower middle class youngsters heading to/from schools that one should have.

A lot is made here about my being ``anti-??``. Let me place one more thing on the monitor then - if patriotism implies a love for the lands of your father, where does that put me?

Sure, my loyalties are to India, both sworn and by natural instinct, but I am entitled to have a view and feeling on Pakistan too. To the best of my knolwedge the likes of Yasser and tahmed are not objecting to a majority of my views, because 9 out of 10 good things I have said about Pakistan are not challenged by them - they are IMHO objecting to my right to have SOME specific views on Pakistan. A bit difficult to understand, but look at it from the point of view that a large percentage of Pakistanis tend to agree with what I say/write.

Rajsinghi,

Maybe not to you (given your track record) but for most sane people omission of truth is one form of lying... and making misleading statements with no roots in reality is another way.... the article is full of both of these things. Only a dishonest crook like yourself will ask for a `substantiation`... if anything needs substantiation it is weird claims like all women wear hijabs in Lahore... That Veeresh is a liar is not something new... even on this board in his last post addressed to me he says: ``I did not ignore Gulberg`` (181) after he was put on the defensive.... but in 174 he wrote : ``I didn`t write about Gulberg. I am sorry``... this is precisely the kind of double speak and fork tongued lying that has made him so unpopular.

Rajsinghi,

I doubt that someone of your questionable integrity, dishonesty and bigotry has any right to question anything about me... Please don`t give yourself so much credit.

I smell a dirty rat named Veeresh... One of my posts is missing detailing his inconsistencies and lies has gone missing ...

So much for freedom of speech.

Veeresh (to salim): you write ``for you, dear hunter, Lahore was, briefly, liberated from its Pakistani occupiers in 1971 by the Indian Army. `` When you wrote it the first time, I didnt believe that even you were that delusional. Then I saw you reconfirm this, and this is the third time you have said it.

I underestimated you, dear brother. Bagdhad Bob was nothing compared to you (even he ran out of town after assuring the world that everything was in control by the Saddam government). You are a category of CREIP all unto yourself!! ha! ha!

But of course you are right, Future Minister of Information of India. The Indian army did liberate Lahore in 1971. In fact, I even have a picture of the Indian army marching down the Mall Road. Ha! ha!

[Re comparisons of cities, as to which city to compare with depends on the way cities are defined in both countries, which could be quite different. As population `agglomerations` it appears Chennai(7.4M) is closest to Lahore(7.2M) and Bangalore(6.8M).
http://www.citypopulation.de/World.html

Objective comparisons of Lahore and an Indian city might indeed be illuminating - like comparing number of newspapers/readership, number of schools, colleges and universities, cultural activities and participation thereof, personal income/asset distribution, size of city budgets, civic facilities, industrial/business productivity, roads/phones, number of buses/trains/flights(domestic/international) originating, etc.]

Sadna, you are being cruel and you know it. But the Pakistanis fell for it.

Bangalore is the IT capital of India. It has BOTH the Indian Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Management. To quote from http://www.stylusinc.com/business/india/bangalore.htm:

[The City of Bangalore has positioned itself to help market the software industry. This is also why Bangalore has been playing host to international-class conferences, workshops and exhibitions devoted to the software cause. The city has the highest number of engineering colleges in the world, almost 50 percent of the world`s SEI CMM Level 5 companies; COPC/ISO recognized Customer Interaction Centers, and over 103 R&D Institutions. It is, in fact, home to GE`s biggest R&D Center outside the U.S.-the Jack Welch Technology Center, which hires over 200 PhDs/scientists every month! To top it all, Bangalore has just been ranked the fourth best ``Global hub of technological innovation`` by none other than the United Nations......

Bangalore is home to numerous success stories. Bangalore already has more than 1000 software companies and the number is still growing. In the year 2001 Bangalore saw a cumulative investment of around US $1.3 billion in the software industry. About 146 new software industries during 2001 and about 110 during 2002 have been established and the total number of software professionals is over 80,000. During 2002-03 about 116 new Software Technology Park Units were established. The IT industry`s composition in Bangalore (2002) shown in the diagram below indicates that a large percentage of the companies is involved in high technology software development. (Source: www.bangaloreit.com)]

And they are planning on opening another 12 engineering colleges in Bangalore this year.

As to Chennai, according to Doctor Artist Leader the Fund of Compassion we have Singapore-like overpasses, something I am perfectly willing to discount. However, the city and its exurbs have more than a dozen engineering colleges not to mention the IIT, 4 medical colleges, several colleges of dentistry, excellent hospitals (my friend just had a hole put in his head for surgery, I plan on telling him he needed that very badly!), holds a classical music festival in December that consists of 2,200 music concerts and dance performances, the dance and music school Kalakshetra which attracts students from around the world (in fact, tonight there is a Bharathanatyam dance performance by two Japanese women and a Frenchwoman), Hyundai and Ford assembly plants, a major IT industry where the sign on buildings is ``Trespassers will be recruited`` (well, I am kidding here), an airport with direct flights at least 6 days a week to Frankfurt by Lufthansa not to mention British Airways, Air India, Malaysian, Singapore, Emirates, Kuwait, Saudia, etc., etc., etc.

You might want to compare Lahore to Bhopal: large Muslim population, Islamic culture, mosques, an airport, a railway station, a bus stand, blah, blah, blah. Or Lucknow. Or Allahabad.

Nah, not Allahabad. We top Lahore there just on the basis of the name alone!

IRONY

What is ironic is that a 46 year old Divorced Dehlite who looks like this :http://www.chowk.com/uploads/images/profile/writer/Veeresh%20Malik.jpg
a person whose wife divorced him because he was annoying, who lost every single job he ever got, and whose claim to fame is a rather mediocre Motorshow .... is calling Lahore, the fastest growing city in South Asia after Bangalore, ``decaying`` .... Shouldn`t we ask what the definition of `decaying` is for this fellow?

`` the ruling classes and the babalog/babylog media keep the cost of their newspapers and magazines so high that the average common wo/man can`t afford them. That`s the honest truth in a country where a newspaper costs 15/- rupees and a magazine between 70 and 100/- rupees. ``

Since you are from the media so one would have thought that you would know more about these things. It is not that they have kept high prices so the common man cannot afford but it is the other way around. They have to keep it bit high because there are not many readers in Pakistan. They cannot afford to sell at Rs5 or whatever and continue to lose money.

About a year or so ago, an Indian by the name of Dr Shiv, who interacts at some other board had come up with some real figures of readers (under the circumstances), and publications in Pakistan. If I recall correctly, total circulation or readership of English language papers in Pakistan is under 200000 (two hundred thousand). If I am not mistaken, he came out with some figures on Urdu language papers/magazines too. As I recall, figures had been taken from various Pakistani sources only.

Point is when readership is not there, economic indicators have not been that good, and that goes for literacy too, then it would be almost impossible for any paper/magazine to keep the cost low as economic of scales come into the picture. Now unless someone says, govt of Pakistan should subsidise and make the papers/magazines more affordable for more Pakistanis. If such a suggestion comes, it would mean, that person is living in his/her own world and not paying attention to the ground reality in Pakistan.

Btw, any idea if copy of Dawn paper is given to Indian MPs even today, for free? Just asking...

Could you please point us to the part in any article or post of Veeresh, where he has called himself an expert on Pakistan?

Again, point is not Veeresh but it is your own words/writings, that is being questioned.

Veeresh 181 `` Mr. Modi got re-elected under the same set of laws and Constitution that prosecutes him.``

I see you have ignored my point and simply restated your what you said earlier. My point was that this hindu terrorist got re-elected after the gujerat pogroms.

Clearly you could teach even Baghdad Bob a thing or two - keep repeating the same thing while ignoring anything said to the contrary.

``Is Dost Mittar an apologist for Lahore as well?``

One can draw one`s own conclusions when comparsion is being made between Delhi, capital of India, seat of power and Lahore which is just another city or at most, capital of a province. Most of the comparison would be only on the surface and nothing else. Biggest difference is/would be that Delhites breathe politics, and has been doing so for years (in general). Nothing new or different about it as other captials too, are not that different. Washingtonians would be more into politics and social issues than other cities of US. Now that evolves and creates its own culture, and mentality. Which generally tends to be different from citizens of other cities.

PS:

What is amazing is how all of a sudden Veeresh is behaving like a spokesman for the downtrodden...

Only few months ago his complaint was that Lahore is no match for Dehli in `class and cash`... and now he is ignoring 80% of Lahore on the flimsy excuse that it is elite...

Now he is taking potshots at the `colonialness` of Lahore... few months ago he claimed that not enough people in Lahore spoke English....

Here in Veeresh is a desperate man.. a failure ... a very insecure individual... trying to salvage some pride in himself... but instead of doing something positive he is berating and disparaging a whole city and a whole country...

At the very least it is helping balm those with similar ailments...
