I truly liked this a great deal...even while reading it images came alive from some old Bengali films, for some reason of Soumitro Chatterji sitting on a reclining chair and Madhabi Mukherji wiping her face with the end of her saree pallu...of Writer`s Building, the Coffee House, Malik mansion, and the station...I know there is no connection, but a good story is one which makes you `see` things...

``Recently Phuli was very busy with her work; she usually left the house early when Debu would be still sleeping and when he returned, Phuli was exhausted from cooking at other`s houses. Debu would be exhausted too from his dhanda.``

i can almost feel the opressive humidity, heat and sheer fatigue before during and after the act.

Basu,
This was touching without being sentimentalized. I hope more is to come from you. Deep fiction is rare on chowk and is not a lot appreciated.

Dear Jang, Hamidm2 and Feedback:

I like to thank you all for liking the story. I promise to post more as I write more ...

Dear FarzanaVersey:

I was so glad to read that the story made you `see` things - especialy some scenes from your favorite Bengali films, scenes that made me feel nostalgic too.

Dear M.B.Z.Isphahani:

I see that the story brought back strong memories for you - I am glad that you liked reading my story.

cheers,

Gautam

Nice story....depictive, to say the least.....though not spared by faux pas...
#1.Shani is referred to as a Goddess...who is very much a male God....
#2.The bus goomti time-keeper may be inside a coop, and not a coup....( i feel so)...similarly, for the train cubicle.....

but for these, a poignant screen-shot of life and times in erstwhile Kolkata....

cheers,
Sumit.
