Celebrities from Big Brother & Wife swaping should be shot!!..i mean ok..i understand the concept of pop idol atleast there are making a star who may have talent of atleast singing..but BIG BROTHER..i mean..what talent do you need there? all you need to get famous is have large breasts and be ready to show em and WHAM your an instant hit..i think Reality TV is disgusting and none of our bloody business what people do in their houses.. i mean who cares if Jessica Simpson is THICK..i mean this realization dawned upon us aswell as her hubby just abt the same time!!!..
i think your article was excellent.....i personally think these kind of shows are a bit to much to take and most of them pretty tacky...

These networks are just pushing the limit...There is already a show where wife-swaping happens between two families to do the routine housework...I wonder what`s next?!
I don`t watch reality shows at all but I hear about them from people all over the place, and I am surprised how much people hooked on these shows, more women than men.
Good job Zainab...Nicely written.

i know how you feel. its just madness when you end up watching hours and horus of bbc panorama and hardtalk and headlines or even the bush kerry debate 9which is an insult to anyone with two peas in thier brain) so heres how i see it. we have become so conditioned and blase about the things we watch on tv it no longer offends us, shocks us, hurts us nor frightens us, beause if we actually thought about what we were watching, we`d blow our brains out.
what a thought!
what a thought!

your absolutely right, its the next generation thats even mroe addicted but it doesnt stop with them i think its the older ones too..but your right the kind of things they are exposed to at an early age (which we werent, all we had was PTV and then NTM was the ultimate it cudnt get better than that) but now they dont know the joys of reading of sitting idle of playing board games or talking about something other than britney spears and mandy moore.
take even younger kids for e.g when you`ve got channels like nickelodeon and cartoon network how do you expect thier growth to not retard? johnny bravo and teletubbies sure set a great example!
i swear teletubbies subliminally tells children to engage in anti-social destructive behaviour.

the question is can we even stop this natural human instinct which interests us in otehr peoples lives?
we like to watch others suffer, fail, succeed, cry, or be wild and immoral. sometimes (insert psychobabble) its because we ourselves cant do those things or cant take on that lfie so we live vicariously, other times we wud rather die than do those tings but nonetheless its fun to watch someone else do them so we can judge them for it.
isnt that true?
but what i want to know is HOW DO THESE PEOPLE LOSE ALL SELF RESPECT AND PARADE THEMSELVES IN FRONT OF MILLIONS LIKE SO? arent they from this planet? dont they have to face the world?

I saw one episode of `The Swan`. It was really sad. The `contestants` came in looking like your average thirtysomething white woman, a little weather beaten perhaps but certainly not `ugly ducklings` (and who decides what`s ugly and what`s beautiful anyway?), and they left looking like those blow-up dolls displayed in the windows of Soho sex shops. I`d like to see a follow-up show five years from now, when all the plastic they`ve injected into themselves starts to implode. Will they still think all of life`s troubles can be done away with by getting lipo and a boob job?
There IS one reality show though that can be termed quality television and that`s The Amazing Race.

Good piece. What is a bit disturbing are plastic surgery shows like The Swan in which women are given cookie cutter (pardon the pun) extreme makeovers.

Broadcast media is a business, and its run like a business, it thrives on the human greed, lust and curiosity.
I have seen bored housewives pry into each other`s lives way before Reality tv came in. So the grounds for a desi reality show like ``pardosi`` or ``bee-jamalo`` is already in our culture.
I fovor parental regulation on the amount of television children should watch. Speaking from personal experience, my younger siblings are prisoners of television. Television programming has become such a big part of their lives that they have detached themselves from the world around them and they prefer to stay at home and watch tv than engage themselves in social interaction.
I do not know a `one fits all` solution to this invasion of broadcast media in our lives, but we can start by accepting it as an `addiction`.

How do you get out of the addiction of the currently operating live tamashas starring Bush Musharraf and the cast of thousands who are providing riveting tv but also heart rendering in its impact on humanity. I am hopelessly hooked... Save me...some one

well i wouldnt go that far, ppl like anna nicole smith are the signs of qayamat...if you read my ilog tomorrow you`ll see why...
media is definetely the new religion, with evety religion comes extremism and rebellion and then self destruction, after which only the truth prevails.
the truth? no longer exists, only commercials, reality tv and soap operas, pageants, award shows and adulterated news does.
