Aamir,
you have a point when you say that our dramas (not all ) lack a positive message for the viewers. We are so steeped in negativity (an understandable phenomenon) that even the media has failed to strike a balance between the two. It is good to have a catharsis but the media (especially electronic) needs to improve the quality of its contents in terms of conveying different messages.

actually, most of the ekta kapoor serials seem to be about evil/conniving women in joint-family systems.
seen one, seen them all.
seen one, seen them all.

good article , I remember when we had time and we watched and watched and watched - I remember 90`s Sunhayray Din , Paroosee ( STN ) , DUHAAN , HAWAYEEN , KASHKOOL (STN) , SURAJ GIRHAN and many more - it was decent Ministers watched it President watched it beggers watched it everyone watched it - then private productions came - obviously they wanted money - they ruined dramas but I think our Urdu Drama`s are comming back hard - even the private productions are getting mature and I know for the fact that things will be better for us ( viewers ) in days to come - at a same time what I hate is - our (Pakistani) comedy dramas or sitcoms they sux big time because they are not orignal and they try to copy Indian - Sitcoms like Hum Panch or blaa blaa - in the end of a day our Urdu Dramas and Plays are orignal they shouldn`t be copying anyother industry`s - orignality is often a hit now a days specially when dramas are getting too Bollywood typish -

Aamir,
Your sense of timing is perfect, you are complaining about quality of program, while in another part of the country, the govt has enacted a law banning, music in public places.
Go out, sing a song my friend rather than writing about something so irrelevant to the pakistan of today.

You`re right! I had to wait till a friend of mine visited Pakistan to finally get hold of a DVD of Dhoop KInare, which I absolutely love. I am sad I did not ask for some other serials as well! Its sad that neither Pakistan nor India are making good TV serials anymore. I have stopped watching any hindi tv channels, all I watch are the english movie channels. You cannot watch any hindi channel (if you are sane!) for more than five mins! I know Ekta kapoor is making a lot of money but she really does not have the right to tamper with our sensibilities... if an outsider saw our serials they would think we are the most scheming, evil people in the whole world! I really wish Pakistani serials were legally available on DVDs in India... I hope that happens soon!

Re: # 6
I second this opinion. I watched all these serials on PTV as a kid from where my father was posted in Punjab (Indian). They were brilliant to say the least. The chracters are so clearly etched in my mind. One other thing I really appreciated was the sing-song programmes on PTV. The music was incredibly good. The present ban on channels from pakistan mean that I havent got to see anything from that side of the border for more than a decade now.

Hallo... so, you are saying `there was no positive message` ? Well, isn`t it all just drama?
