What is narrated in this story is not exceptional. It`s much close to what happens in real life. Hats off to the writer for writing this story though. In today`s world, there is very little focus on such issues as abnormality, especially in fiction. Vincent Van Gogh, the Spanish artist/painter had schizophrenia, yet his paintings are universally acclaimed. Once in a fit, he cut off one of his ears, and later drew a self-portrait with a bandage covering it. Alas, what a waste! The writer has talked about a mentally ill person here who was born like that. The thing is, there are many cases when an individual develops a mental illness later in life, though he or she might be normal since birth. That happens when one is exposed to certain catastrophies in life, but mostly it happens with persons who are too sensitive by nature. Then such persons might also be very compassionate and caring. There are people who have successive nervous breakdowns, yet emerge as stronger individuals afterwards. Not only that, but they are able to achieve their targets in life as well. We should remember, without the help from Our Creater we are nothing. Life is full of ups and downs. So even for normal people, efforts should be made to develop a bond with Allah. Only if we lay complete trust in Him, and pray to Him, can we have peace of mind. Material success is not everything - it`s basically the peace of mind which makes you strong. This is from a man who has had 11 nervous breakdowns starting at the age of 17 years, yet he was able to attain a Masters Degree and became a Senior Executive in a private firm later. THAT MAN IS ME! And I believe, it all happened because I started building a bond with Allah gradually, and now I am leading a very normal life. Even Psychotherapy didn`t help me that much, and I left it when I felt it was just time-wasting. Apart from growing spiritual, I also paid attention to regular exercise and healthy diet. I am 36 years old, yet people who see me say I look 5-6 years younger than my age. A person who hasn`t experienced pain in life is not complete. Pain makes you realize how weak you really are, and makes you more humble & caring towards others. May Allah help all of us and keep us on the right path, Ameen!

I had been trying to induce my thoughts after reading this article but was unable to every time I opened this article. It has an association to our sentiments which are very hard to describe.

Xoheb Sheikh,
Our individual lives are but canvases clipped to drawing boards and mounted on a painters-stand. Our thoughts are inspirations that guide our actions in the shape of expressions that which smear the canvas of our separate beings, giving them meaning. I sometimes think that perhaps we are all painters calibrating our sentient muses in a dimension other than this one. And that way while Tennyson painted with poetry, Chagall with colors and brushes, and Chopin with music.
And as far as normalcy is concerned, who is to say what is normal? - The norm, the usual, the mostly done. A nude bather if spotted at a beach in Singapore is considered abnormal just as a semi-nude bather is considered abnormal at a nude beach in France.
Peace!

You can be intelligent and have a mental illness, though obviously not be able to express your intelligence like eveyone else. Have you heard of the Japanese painter who has lived in a mental hospital for over 25 years now?Isha doesn`t sound like she has a mental illness at all.....

NICE!!!
what is normal and what is abnormal?......everyone differs on it. All I know is when something is different and against the norms it is termed abnormal. This article is an example of it. You have managed to think beyond the norm and abnormal, from the ignorance of ordinary human beings to the talents of an extraordinary human being.
