A nice piece of writing.
I enjoyed the nostalgic memories of the dinner and yes; the joke is on me! ;)

Delhiwala,
I read an account by the person who participated in the attack on Dera Sb. He said they were trained and told by Punjab police to carry out the attack. I think the name of the muslim inspector was Cheema.
The basturd went to some shrine in NDelhi and was `overwhelmed` by the sikhs` welcome.
He claims he later `repented` his crimes.

Kauraya, There was one pathetic man called Magistrate MG Cheema of Lahore.
He was probably the most instrumental in organizing the riots against the Sikhs(he let the Hindus go free).
I don`t know what became of him, does any Chowkie know if he is still there??
1947 was the saddest year for Punjabis ever, evev more than levelling of Eminabad by Babur.

Stuka,
Great narrative written in a vivid, descriptive style. Thank you for sharing your story - especially your thoughts when you were by yourself. I can well appreciate your gratitude at skipping Dunkin Donuts the next day - too much of a good thing spoils the impression. The paindoo Lahoris never stop repeating a fad until it becomes boring - just look at how they ruined the Lahore ODIs against India by overcheering the visitors to the point of absurdity. Anyway, Maalesh, I enjoyed the history of ZamZama, Abdali`s gun that Kim sat on.

Prashant:
Dude, you are a benign dunce. I will leave it at that. Cheers.
Delhiwala: I am not denigrating the Sikh Day Parade. I am talking about the last part, after the parade ends and the speeches start. I said the Sikh Day Parade and Jamaat Rally were SIMILAR in the sense that no one was listening to the speeches.
My dear friend, if I say the exact same thing, how can I be ``lightly criticizing one`` and ``denigrating`` the other? And I have no idea what veggies would do in Lahore....eat Nan Choley I suppose. That is a breakfast food and is veggie.
Dost Mittar: Must be the same guy. I also thought he was a Pathan or something. esp coz he had Mehendi on his hair.

Dilli,
the irony is that these `cheemas` and others were at one time hindus and may be sikhs. usually, they attacked their `neighbors` - who are distant cousins.
In Pb., I`ve seen this and true of my maternal family. Their ancestor won the land. The land kept on dividing and the person living 10 doors down is a distant cousin. the person living the closest is a second cousin. If you go long back enough, they all had one ancestor. That is why in E Punjab, they wouldn`t let you marry within the same village.
Anyways, same is true of these muslims/non muslim neighbors.

Fara #6, {`` was told of the dinner but missed it...was a bit tied up.``}
So, not only does Lahore have Dunkin Donuts, its citizens also engage in S&M. I am now convinced about the avant garde nature of Lahore and Lahoris. Please stop the torture - I believe. I believe.

``Maybe that is when Stuka came for when he attended it(since he obviously likes food).
``
No, I did see a lot of the parade, but I liked the end the most...because I like food. And the speeches were hilarious. ;)

Sobia , Fara , Ash , Mrs.Manto and other `gorgeous` Pakistani beauties (chorus) : `` PARAG WE LOVE YOU !! WILL YOU MARRY US !!!``

Stuka,
{``Apparently “Hindu” and “India” were the magic words and I was welcomed inside as soon I identified myself as one.``}
Had you identifed yourself as Sikh, with the proper turban and accessories, Lahori chicks would not have let you return to India. I have heard that they are crazy about Sikh men.

Stuka,
I have heard that only some remnants of the original Shalimar Gardens remain and that the major portion was destroyed by Sikhs. I didn`t realize that Sikhs were vegetarians and that they munched on the grass and the flowers like goats.

Stuka Vohra, creates equivalencies where none exist with these ridiculous statements:
``It was mostly men unfortunately, as is the case in most of South Asia,``
``At first glance the rally reminded me of a Sikh day parade ``
Then Stuka vohra writes:
``**Baghbanpura translates into “Village of Gardeners”** ``
Seems to be a convoluted translation, does not make sense linguistically,
Is a gardner called a `bagh-ban` or bagh-bannewala ? nope.
It is very very likely - that Baghbanpura - was called Bhagavanpura and the
of course, to suit the sensibilities of the `land of the pure` - it has now becom
bagh-ban-pura :)
And so it goes on...

A fab read, again!
Parag, I have finally begun to feel jealous of you :)
``I recognized Ash and Sobia right away and the two were every bit as gorgeous as I had imagined them to be if not more.``
Aise nahi kahte. Gorgeous ladies are always ``every bit as gorgeouos as we imagine them and more!``

And Taj Mahal was actuually Tejo Mahal and was a Shiva Temple. Dude, you really are an idiot :)
Stick to your Khaki Chaddi fantasies.

Stuka, I am amazed that you came to the conclusion that Lahoris were not fanatic because millions attended the rallies but didn`t pay attention to the speeches. If people were not really fanatic they wouldn`t have attended the rallies.
The fact that they did shows that they support the idea behind the rally. How many rallies do you see where people are fervently listening to speaker after speaker saying the same thing over and over again?
I think you would have realized how fanatic people are if you had prodded some of the attendees about how futile the whole rally is.
I am also amazed how easily you dismissed the absence of women in public in Lahore by saying this is the situation in all of South Asia. What BS! Is that the situation in Delhi, Bangalore, Bombay, Hyderabad? Your travelogue would have been a lot better if you had been honest instead of trying to not hurt your Pakistani hosts.
Did you ask the Hindu gentleman why he was calling himself ``Azhar``?
Atleast, this travelogue does not contradict Veeresh`s version which did highlight the absence of women in public in Pakistan.
